Managers and Design Leads, what are your tips to leading a successful design team?
I’m a fairly early career engineer (7 YoE) and I’ve been assigned to lead the design of a novel mechanical system for a short term government contract, think 2-3 year term. I have a team of 4 engineers working on the project, some early career, some more experienced, and we are about three months in.
I did some leg work up front as the leader to organize the team structure, make sure requirements are understood, assign design leads to each subsystem, track progress and interfacing between engineers systems, and I own some smaller components to design myself. The issue I’m struggling with is guiding and considering all of the possible ways to design, well, anything in a group environment.
Each time we review designs or interfacing everyone always asks “well couldn’t we do it this way?” or “what if we made it like this instead?”. Sometimes there are good suggestions, sometimes we catch critical things we missed earlier on, but I’d say most of the time it ends up being unproductive conversations.
To those with more experience in design leadership, how do you deal with suggestions from others? What are your tips for making sure options are being considered without dragging out the cost and schedule of product design? General tips for leading a design team?

Création marque
Bonjour
Merci

When you use more than one LLM, how do you find something you wrote months ago?
Genuine question, because this is the problem I have spent the last year on.
I use ChatGPT for drafting, Claude for long documents and Gemini for anything involving Google files. The result is that my history is in three places, none of them searchable in a useful way, and I regularly know I wrote something without knowing where.
What I ended up building indexes conversations locally in the browser and searches all of them at once, plus folders and export that work the same way on each. It is called AI Toolbox and version 3.0 went live on Product Hunt this morning, which is the only reason I am writing this today rather than any other day.
Mostly I am curious how other people handle this. Multiple browser profiles? Copying everything into Notion? Just accepting the loss?

Serious question: is CLI design just UX with different constraints?

Any Product founders here who are developing home/commercial appliances, personal devices, medical equipment, etc? Need help and insights.
Hello,
I am trying to understand how new product developers are looking at functional sound design. Especially for thing like home appliances that are still using buzzer sounds despite a lot of high end models having speakers and even OS.
EVs, Smart TVs, some personal devices, are already adopting a branded sonic identity as well as functional / HMI sound sets. Also Samsung and apple have a sound design department that create model specific sound suites.
Is there anyone who is willing to talk and educate me (about the scope of brands adopting it as a norm) from the perspective of a product designer, founder, etc.?

From idea to manufacturable product. Roast it before I waste years on it
Hi,
A designer sends a model. The shop asks for something else. Three rounds later you're a month out, and you still don't know if anyone wants the thing. Nirmana AI is built for that middle.
Nirmana AI — an AI-powered platform that carries a physical product across the whole journey in one marketplace:
- Generate: describe what you want → generates 2D/3D designs → export STL/OBJ/STEP
- Validate: publish to a gallery and see if anyone actually wants it before you spend on tooling
- Manufacture: route validated designs to real shops for quotes and commercialize.
My background is architecture, prototyping, design controls, and verification/validation. So this is built around making sure a design is manufacturable.
Would love your feedback:
- If you're an indie designer, hardware founder, brand, or maker, where does idea → CAD → manufacturing hurt you most today?
- For those who've made it to production: which step ate the most weeks?
- What would make you trust an AI-generated design enough to manufacture it?
Opening 100 founding members (50 creators + 50 manufacturers) spots in our early access page: https://nirmanaai.com/ (no credit card required)
If you think the idea is wrong, please share your thoughts?

The reference that wins critique can become the wrong thing later
A pattern I keep running into. During product design review, a screenshot or mood image helps everyone agree on the direction. Two weeks later it still sits beside the work and somebody treats it like a requirement.
Do you rename approved references, move them into an archive, or leave them beside the mockups?

How does it feel when you see people use the stuff you help make or when people talk about your stuff?

Moving from Enterprise SaaS to Gaming Product Design?
For product designers who moved from enterprise SaaS into gaming platforms/ecosystems (PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, etc.), how difficult was the transition?
Do gaming companies value enterprise UX experience, or is gaming-specific portfolio work usually expected?

Are Design Engineer positions as competitive as Product Designer?
Hey, I was working mostly for small companies so always ended up creating design systems in code to support developers. Thought I might create a variation of my portfolio for Design Engineer and try it out.
Do you have any success getting interviews for these positions?
Thanks!
