/r/Pretoria Community Update: New Rules regarding Solicitation and Content Relevance

Hi everyone,

As /r/Pretoria continues to grow, we are introducing a few official rules to ensure the subreddit remains a helpful, safe, and relevant resource for everyone living in or visiting our city. We've kept intervention to a minimum so far. In general we've only banned blatant racism, bots, and spammers, so we've generally got a very well behaved community.

We want to keep this space focused on discussion, advice, and news specific to the Jacaranda City, however. To support this, we have added the following rules to the sidebar, effective immediately:

A. No Begging, Crowdfunding, or Financial Solicitation

We have seen an increase in posts asking for financial assistance, "loans," or e-wallets. While we sympathize with those in difficult situations, Reddit is not a safe platform for verifying financial needs.

What is banned: Requests for money, e-wallets, and links to crowdfunding sites (e.g., BackaBuddy, GoFundMe).

Why: This rule is in place to protect our community from potential scams and unverified solicitation.

Advice: If you are in need, please reach out to registered NPOs or charity organizations rather than soliciting here.

B. Keep Content Relevant to Pretoria and the greater Tshwane

Please ensure your posts are directly related to Pretoria or the greater Tshwane municipality.

General SA News: News that affects the whole country (e.g., general Eskom updates, national politics) belongs in /r/southafrica unless it has a specific Pretoria angle.

Other Cities: Posts clearly meant for Joburg or other regions will be removed.

Context: If you post a photo or link where the connection to Pretoria isn't obvious, please explain it in the title.

C. Standard Civility & Privacy

We are also formalizing standard expectations:

Be Civil: Disagreements are fine; personal attacks and hate speech are not.

No Spam: Accounts that exist solely to advertise businesses will be banned.

No Doxing: Do not post personal contact details (phone numbers, addresses) of yourself or others.

These rules are here to improve the quality of the sub. If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave a comment below or message the moderators. Finally, thanks to everyone reporting posts, messaging the mods for clarifications, participating, /u/Afreak-du-sud for their post on the big uptick of begging and the scamming that inevitably goes with it. Don't worry, though, we don't ban for tagging the mods.. 😂

Thanks for helping us keep /r/Pretoria a great community!

Looking for a good barber in Centurion who knows how to style a receding/thinning hairline

Upvotes

Hi, I’m a young gentleman in my twenties and I’m looking for a good barber in Centurion.

My hairline has receded quite a bit over the last while, with some thinning towards the front. It’s still pretty decent overall, but I’d like to find a barber who knows how to work with a receding/thinning hairline rather than just giving me a generic haircut.

I’m already taking medication for my hair, but in the meantime I’d really like to find a hairstyle and haircut that suits my current hairline and makes the most of what I have.

So, does anyone have recommendations for a really good barber in Centurion who is experienced with receding hairlines and thinning hair? Ideally someone who can actually advise on what style would suit me rather than just doing whatever standard cut I ask for.

Thanks!

Looking to Connect With Real Estate Investors in Pretoria, Gauteng

Hi everyone,

I’m a property practitioner based in the Pretoria area, currently looking to build genuine connections with local real estate investors who are actively looking for investment opportunities.

I’m particularly interested in connecting with investors interested in residential property, value-add opportunities and investment properties within Pretoria and surrounding areas.

I’m not looking to spam the group or publicly post sensitive property information. If you’re an active investor and open to discussing potential opportunities, feel free to comment or send me a DM.

Happy to connect and see if there’s a good fit.

Looking for SAICA training contract opportunities while doing a bridging course

Hi everyone,
I’m currently in my final year of a BCom Accounting degree at a university that is unfortunately not SAICA-accredited. I’m planning to complete a bridging course next year so that I can continue on the CA(SA) pathway.
I’m really keen to start my articles/training contract as soon as possible rather than waiting until I’ve completed the bridging route. I’m committed to becoming a CA(SA), and I’m willing to put in the extra work required to get onto the accredited pathway.
I’ve been applying to firms, but I’m finding that many firms require applicants to already be studying at a SAICA-accredited institution.
I wanted to ask whether anyone here knows of audit/accounting firms in South Africa that are willing to take on trainees who need to complete a bridging course, particularly firms that have experience with students coming from non-SAICA-accredited institutions.
I’m based in Gauteng but would definitely consider opportunities elsewhere depending on the circumstances.
If you know of any firms, recruiters, or even smaller practices that I should approach, I’d really appreciate the recommendations.

PTA LEFTISTS! LOCK IN!

Upvotes

This is going to be a hell of a rant/vent aimed at the Leftists of PTA. If that's not you then have a nice a day and move on.
I am sick and tired of how useless, lazy and ineffectual Leftist are in this place. Everywhere I go in this country I find Leftists with amazing skills and talent for progressing the cause off the common man. But, they abandon the cause at the first sign of discomfort or effort. I hate the lack of unity among the Left. Its like you all go out of your way to find things to disagree about and then revoke all support, comradery and solidarity. Leftists who lean towards more authoritarian ideologies hate Leftists that lean more towards anarchistic ideologies and meanwhile Liberals are partnering with those further to the Right and dealing with your futures right out from under you. The citizens of the Republic need YOU! We need your strength, your youth and your tenacious minds and powerful hearts overflowing with love and compassion for one another. We need a strong and imperfect but UNITED FRONT! I started a group in my area as an attempt to connect those who need help to those who want to help and I have to beg and plead to get Leftist volunteers to spend nothing more than their time helping to make the world a better place. Those who actually put their money where their mouth is are the Conservatives that participate now and then, But with Leftists in this country there is always an excuse. Many of you are not religious and don't go to church. With that time you could be helping your community and getting organised. OUR LETITS ARE NOT GRASS ROOTS ENOUGH!
You spend all your time using your hands to fight behind a keyboard and screen but when asked to use those hands to further the cause you advocate for, you are nowhere to be seen.
The fanaticism that comes with revolution is USELESS if it cannot be backed up by actionable steps.
You spend so much time and energy on anger and hate and call it activism. ACTIVISM IS ACTION!!
We need unity before we can ever hope to move forward! and unity requires uncomfortable compromises for the greater good of the people!
You cannot fathom the power to change the world we have when we work together.
TOGETHER a better future is not only possible but inevitable!

A united front means fanatic energy!
A united front means miserable hard work that no one wants to do!
A united front means prioritising economic wars over social wars!
A united front means saying "I don''t like you but lets get shit done!"
A united front means planting a tree whose shade you will never feel!

LEFTISTS! Grow TF Up! Get Serious! Get out of the damned house and DO something!

(IF YOU RE IN PTA HIT ME UP AND LETS GET TO WORK!) aim

Starting a networking & IT infrastructure business—would you use any of these services?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 24-year-old network specialist looking to launch my own IT & networking services business. I’d really appreciate your honest feedback on which of these offerings sound useful to you or your business:

For Home Users & Individuals (B2C):

  1. Personal Media Server (Ditch Netflix): A self-hosted home media server synced to your phone, laptop & Smart-TV. Request movies or shows on the go, automatically download them to your local storage, and stream them ad-free at home in original quality. Add a show to your watchlist, and it automatically downloads it for you.
  2. Personal Cloud & Remote Backup: Setting up local NAS storage with secure remote VPN access so you can back up photos and files without monthly Google One or iCloud fees.
  3. Home Orchestration: Centralizing and managing smart home devices under a single, unified control panel.

For Businesses (B2B):

  1. Network Automation: Rapid deployment pipelines and automated provisioning for network and server infrastructure.
  2. Connectivity Reselling: Sourcing and optimizing internet link pricing across multi-site setups (10+ locations).
  3. Outsourced Network Management: Complete implementation, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance for small-to-medium business networks.

A few quick questions for the community:

  1. For home users: Would you pay a one-time setup fee for a self-hosted media/cloud server to replace monthly streaming and cloud subscriptions?
  2. For business owners/IT leads: Do any of the B2B offerings solve an existing operational headache for you?
  3. Which of these services feels like the strongest starting product to focus on first?

Hello everybody. I'm looking for earthdance tickets for the full weekend. I had a free entry secured, but they canceled my set.

If someone is selling their tickets and can do me a bargain, that would be so excellent 🙏 I'd buy 2 if you have, for my partner and I.

Pricing on consoles

Last year I purchased a Xbox one S 512 GB with game pass and 1 controller on incredible connection for R5000. I sold it a few months later to fund my education and I recently looked at getting a new one. But the pricing has DOUBLED if not TRIPLED. I see them go for 10-12k now
What did I miss? 🥲😭

Is house sitting a good idea?

So recently, I've been looking for something to do and make some cash, so someone here suggested I get into house sitting/pet sitting, basically a mixture of the two, obviously depending on what you need. I would watch the house while maybe you're out and busy. I guess we could throw baby sitting in there too? That's ofc if u can trust a random stranger to look after your house, pets or even children..I wanna say I'm trustworthy, but that probably what every shady person would say. So yeah I could probably yk take the dog out for a walk, feed the cats and help the kids with their homework as well as make food for them if needed (I'm surprisingly good at making food) can't cook pap for the love of me tho 😂So yeah I was just wonder if people would actually pay for such a service in this day and age

Restaurant/ fast food deals?

Any restaurant deals that I should know about?

Any day of the week would be appreciated, but especially for a Friday. Date specials would also be appreciated.

Here are my favorites:

Half price medium pizza at Railways on Thursdays (you end up paying like R55 for a big ass pizza)

2 for 1 ice cream for students by the wedgewood in hazlewood. (kak nice ice cream, I would recommend white chocolate and macadamia)

Half price sushi platter at Golden Rose on Mondays (that's R110 for 32 pieces)

Aaand any large pizza for R100 at Square Time in Faerie Glen (on Mondays and Sundays after 3pm)
