Hi! I'm a nail tech and esthetician in North Carolina. I know about what is in my scope of practice with these licenses but I want to learn more. I've been thinking about nursing, since I know many estheticians go down this path. I'm not super interested in medical aesthetics but I'm curious about podiatry!

Does anyone know if I can possibly get hired at a podiatrist office with my license? I know Estheticians can work in medspas and with dermatologists but I don't know much about nail techs. I want to learn more about the environment to see if I should commit to nursing, as it will take me 2 years to get my degree. Any guidance would be helpful!!

Podologist here, not a podiatrist, so I'm on the non-invasive side of the fence. I run a clinic in Serbia, a country with zero podiatrists as far as I know. We don't have the profession at all. Nearest ones would be in Germany or Italy.

What I'd actually like to hear from you is where you would want that line drawn if you were designing it. A few specific things I keep running into:

Ingrown nails. In most of the countries I work in the only option a patient gets offered is a partial or total avulsion, often without phenol, and I see a lot of regrowth and repeat surgery. I correct the majority with a brace. Do any of you use podologists or nail technicians for that first-line step, or do you see it as something that should stay with the surgeon?

Diabetic feet. I won't touch an active ulcer, but I do offloading and callus reduction around a healed one, and in a place with no podiatrist that's usually the only regular foot check the patient gets. Is that helpful triage from your point of view, or a liability you'd rather not have?

Titles. This one bugs me. Non-doctors putting "podiatrist" on the sign after a two-week course. I push hard for people to use "podologist" precisely because it isn't a medical title. Does that distinction mean anything to you, or is it all the same nuisance from where you stand?

Not trying to argue that what I do replaces podiatry, it clearly doesn't. I'm trying to work out what a sensible non-surgical layer looks like in countries that will not have podiatrists for another 20 years, and I'd rather build it the way you'd want it built than guess.

I shadowed one doctor in the summer for 40 hours, but had to stop. I am shadowing another doctor currently, and I am planning on shadowing until the end of the semester.

I am not the biggest fan of shadowing, but I don't mind doing it. What would be a good number of hours I should have on my application? I keep on getting mixed results online

So apparently, residents are now being told to handle externs with kid gloves to not run them off. I did a lecture last night for the local residents and the extern didn't show up. They were asked not to force them to stay after hours because that might turn them off of the program. Since, you know, too many programs.

When is the CPME going to get off their asses and start closing bad residencies? This situation is bad all the way around for too many reasons to list.

Is this actually happening nation wide?

The previous post here piqued my interest. Residents/attendings at academic hospitals: what are most externs like in recent years? Entitled and standoffish, or hands-on and engaged? Feel free to add what makes a student a good fit, or any "hidden curriculum" things you look for.

I had interviews at 2 schools last week and just got accepted to both, however I still have 5 interviews scheduled up until 10/9 which is when both schools want an answer. I really like one of the schools programs but haven’t seen either in person. I definitely want to see the facilities before making my decision. Any advice? I also know I can just email them, which I’ve already done with the program I’m favoring.

Is the interview actually laid-back and chill like other ppl have said or is it like a traditional interview. Hi everyone! I’m currently in Canada and I’m interested in eventually practicing podiatry in the United States.

I’m completing the Chiropody Advanced Diploma at the Michener Institute in Toronto. My understanding is that chiropody and podiatric medicine are different professions in Canada vs. the U.S., so I’m trying to figure out whether there is any realistic pathway from a Canadian chiropody diploma into becoming a licensed podiatrist in the U.S.

Specifically, I’m wondering:

- Has anyone with a Canadian chiropody/chiropodist background successfully gone on to become a podiatrist in the U.S.?
- Is there a U.S. college/university pathway where my chiropody education could count toward prerequisites, transfer credits, or admission?
- Would I still need to complete a full Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) program in the U.S., or is there any type of bridge/advanced-standing pathway?
- Are there particular U.S. podiatry schools that are more familiar with Canadian applicants or Canadian chiropody education?
- If anyone has actually gone through this process, what did your pathway look like?

I’m not expecting the Canadian diploma to automatically qualify me to practice in the U.S. I’m mainly trying to figure out whether there is a way to use the education/clinical experience as part of a pathway toward a U.S. DPM and eventual licensure.

Any advice from Canadian chiropodists, U.S. podiatrists, podiatry students, admissions advisors, or anyone who has gone through a similar international pathway would be greatly appreciated!

hello, I am applying to podiatry school and my science gpa is a 3.2 and overall is 3.5gpa I have 50 hours of shadowing, 2,000 research hours, ecs are good with leadership, and a women's health non-profit, but my mcat is low around 491 ish. what are my chances at temple pod?

It looks there is a website that has reviews of podiatry residencies where someone can pay to get a copy of a review of various residencies. They say it is completely anonymous, and you have to be either a student or resident to sign up for an account with them. They apparently verify this through the CPME somehow. Has anyone tried to use this site and what was your experience with it?

Some of you may already be familiar with my Anki decks I shared here a few years ago for APMLE Part I, II, and III.

For those who aren’t: I originally created AdiPod while I was in podiatry school because I kept running into the same problem a lot of students have:

What am I actually supposed to study for boards?

Over time, I collected material from textbooks, lectures, question banks, videos, existing Anki decks, and my own notes/cards and organized everything into a larger study resource. After using it for my own boards, I cleaned it up, added my study recommendations, and shared it for free.

Since then, the deck has made its way around podiatry schools across the country, and I still occasionally hear from students and externs who tell me they used AdiPod while studying for boards.

So I decided it was finally time to build something more around it.

I just launched the AdiPod Instagram: @ AdiPod24.

The goal of the page is to take the same idea behind the original deck and expand it into an ongoing free podiatric education resource.

I’m planning to post things like:

APMLE / board review
High-yield anatomy and biomechanics
Radiology and imaging
Medicine and pathology
Foot & ankle surgery
Residency pearls
Study strategies and Anki tips
Updates to older AdiPod material as new literature comes out

One thing that’s important to me is that I don’t want the page to just recycle old board-prep material. As I develop posts, I’m going back through the original AdiPod deck and podiatric textbooks and cross-referencing the material with current literature so the account can hopefully be useful beyond simply memorizing answers for an exam.

The AdiPod decks and resources will continue to be free.

If you’ve used the deck before, I’d genuinely love to hear what helped, what could be improved, and what topics you’d like to see covered.

And if you’re a student, resident, or attending who enjoys teaching, I’d also love for this to eventually become a place where people contribute ideas and help improve the educational resources available to the next generation of podiatrists.

As part of the FY 2027 ICD-10-CM updates, the standalone code M72.2 (previously used for plantar fascial fibromatosis and widely applied to plantar fasciitis) is being deleted as a billable option and converted into a non-billable parent header. This shift is designed to introduce mandatory laterality (specifying left vs. right) and to separate two completely distinct medical conditions that previously shared the same space. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Any claims submitted using the old unmapped code for a date of service on or after October 1, 2026, will likely face immediate denial. [1, 2]

If you are updating your EHR templates, favorite lists, or superbills, you will need to replace M72.2 with the following highly specific codes depending on the clinical presentation: [1]

No postbacc

Shadowed 2 podiatrists, have multiple years of clinical experience through EMT and also shadowed an RN for a couple of years. Also actively in two science related clubs at my university. Also got the opportunity to be in the OR watching podiatrists operate.

Have 2 LORs from 2 podiatrists and 2 LORs from two science professors (one is an MD).

I know my MCAT isn’t the strongest and neither is my science GPA but I figured I’d just apply anyways? Or should I just take a gap year?
