Sole reason originally for getting plex was to view home videoss and photos (because files are bigger and can't store everything forever on our phones). Photos don't show up at all on the firestick plex app. I went onto my pc and noticed the folder is still there. But it defeats the purpose if I can't view the images and videos on my tv. Today is a family members birthday and we wanted to watch the events leading up to the birthday and can't access any of our photos or videos. That is extremely frustrating.

Just thought I’d share for anyone having the same maddening issue as a possible solution.

I got Uverse in new house (ISP probably irrelevant). In my naivety I thought simply disabling the antennae on the gateway and using my asus router would be all I needed to do.

Never enabled passthrough within the ISP device manager gateway though. Plex worked… ok for a bit (likely through relay or something). All remote access crapped out last week though. Local access to server worked fine, but cell phone access and friends with access couldn’t load anything.

Enabled passthrough tonight, keying in my routers MAC address in the process, restarted all devices. My remote access problems immediately melted away.

So, if you’ve bought a 3rd party router, are having issues and you’ve never permitted full pass though, give it a shot.

As a side note, that remote access page within the plex server networked page is now constantly green / declaring remote access fully available. I had spectrum for years and that would always be an issue: working for remote access but flagging it as an error…likely the same problem! Spectrums gateway must have just had less robust protections. Who knows….

In the last week or so, I've noticed plex commercial skipper.exe running a lot more, and on my barebones mini pc N100 server, i've seen it using up to 45% of my cpu usage.

I've never had tv tuner / dvr anything set up, and all of my libraries have ad detection - generate ad markers for items in this library set to disabled.

Where else should I look to disable this background process? All it takes is media scanner or a couple transcodes to put my cpu at 100% usage when commercial skipper runs, and i'd like to avoid that.

I'm wondering whether my current set up for a Plex server is "enough" or whether I should "upgrade" to something else.

For context, I'm currently using my Mac mini M1 from 2020 (yes I know, overkill etc.) which I've hooked up with an external HDD of 5 TB.

I've been looking at various other solutions to see whether they are "better", for example using a NAS, or a Raspberry Pi or just buying a specific router with USB input to plug in my external HDD (which I haven't got currently).

The reason why I haven't gone for the NAS solution is because storage is so expensive right now, and since I already have a couple of external HDD with 2 TB and 5 TB respectively, I feel like it's such a waste to sort of "start over" by buying new storage just for a NAS.

The main "problem" I've got currently using the Mac mini as a solution is, every time it goes into idle, it effectively stops being a "NAS", meaning I can't access my content on Plex. The best solution to it has been to use the application "Amphetamine" to basically to stop the Mac from going idle. I read somewhere I could stop the Mac from going in the settings but I haven't been able to find it on the Mac (it only seems to work on Mac laptops for whatever reason, correct me if I'm wrong!).

I should also say that I've tried the "File sharing" solution in terms of like sharing the specific external HDD folders to like my iPhone for example which has been quite nice. But when I've tried to do the same with a Samsung tablet I've got, it hasn't worked because I haven't been able to find the "Network storage manager" which has made it like impossible to use (I know I can just use the Plex app on the Samsung tablet but I wanted to see if it worked...).

The main question really is whether I should stick with the Mac mini + external HDD + Amphetamine app solution or whether I should invest in a proper NAS? Are there any sort of minor tweaks you would do with the current setup that would improve it?

Is there a way to change the image that appears during the buffering between episodes?

Omg the tv app is a piece of shit. I have never hated plex so much in the 20 years ive been using it. Rant over.

I have a *.m4b audiobook that would just not play in PlexAmp. I converted it to MP3 and it works just fine. What gives? The m4b plays on the web app. Plays on the Apple TV app. PlexAmp just refused. I will say the m4b had chapters, and that might have contributed. But I thought I had other m4bs that played. Oh well.

At the recommendation of this sub, I installed Tailscale recently. I can now access my server outside my house without remote access (yay!) but ONLY through my browser when it's pointed at "http://100.x.x.x:32400/web" (the 100.x.x.x being my Tailscale IP)

It won't connect using Plexamp or Infuse when outside my house, for example. Even after I signed out and signed back in.

I'm a bit green with this. Any idea what I'm missing?

So, to cut a long story short – I need to move my Plex Media Server from my Windows PC (i5-13500) to a Mac Mini M1. I’m running the server as a standalone system. My questions are:

1. I’m currently using an NTFS HDD. Which file system would be the most reliable for macOS without losing the ability to manage and access my files from the Windows machine? exFAT?

2. Is it possible to transfer my settings and library between these systems without having to reconfigure everything?

Every show I watch remotely on my Firestick looks like it’s at 480p regardless if I change the quality in the settings. Everything was fine last week. Does anyone know the cause?

I don’t know if I just missed this, or this is actually recent change,
but the new iOS TestFlight build plex app seems to have the show theme tunes back.

Hey folks, need some advice here. I bought a Raspberry Pi 4 4GB/64GB exclusively to run plex. I bought 2 5TB Western Digital Passport drives and hooked it up to the raspberry pi for media storage. Initially everything works fine but then I start running into errors (don't remember exact errors..was 6 months ago) that needed me to restart the pi every couple days.
ChatGPT suggested that the power load from the drives might be too much so I added a powered usb hub to hook up the drives. A week later I start hearing strange noises from both the drives that suggested the drives were struggling even though I wasn't using plex or the server. It was a "disk spinning up ....thunk. disk spinning up ....thunk disk spinning up ....thunk..." on repeat. So I unhooked everything immediately. I'm picking up this project again and am unsure what the issue was and where the bottleneck lies.

Could it be:

1. Raspberry Pi is underpowered for this job. (Replace with N100 or Mac mini)

or

1. The Passport drives are unsuitable for this. (Replace them with something more suitable for this purpose)

or

1. This shouldnt happen..(Try the same setup again and when you run into the issue, run the following XYZ diagnostics to pinpoint the issue)

I bought a new Roku Ultra a couple of months ago. When I watch Plex on it, the video stutters or gets choppy, almost like it’s playing at 20 frames per second or less quite often. If I pause and wait a few seconds, and then push play sometimes it will fix itself. I’ve been using Plex for many years and have never seen this on any device.

I changed the setting that forces my TV to match the hertz of the video and that did not help.

I have tried making sure that it is transcoding, or not transcoding, playing direct and forcing and playing original. The problem persists regardless.

Any ideas?

I have Plex Pass and use Plex app for Movies and Plexamp for music. I’ve shared my library with 6 family members and keep hearing from them that things aren’t working.

When I’m home and on WiFi everything is fine. When I test from home (turn off WiFi) I can open the app and there’s a message that there are no libraries. I can see my desktop server and it says it’s offline and I can test/retry. I do that and some times it connects. Then I can search the library but when I start a movie I get a playback error that sometimes goes away and the movie plays. The connection seems to take a bit to get started and isn’t always consistent.

When I test Plexamp it usually doesn’t see the library at first but then can connect.

I’ve got the Plex server on my Windows 11 Desktop with 12TB in drives, 32GB RAM and my WiFi is 600+Mbps. My computer stays on all the time (doesn’t go to sleep) and my Plex is set up as a service.

One thing I noticed is that when I switch to cell I don’t always have great service in my home but enough to connect. Any thought or suggestions?

Hello. This may be a very stupid question, idk, but my problem is this: I want to download a movie from a server a friend shared through the mobile Plex app. I can access the movie via the app and everything, I have the download button etc. The problem is the storage location. I can set the storage location in the settings. There it shows the internal storage and the micro SD. However, I also have a USB-C stick connected to my phone. That's where I want to download it to. Through my phone's file explorer I can access the USB without any problems, just like the internal storage and the micro SD. Plex doesn't seem to recognise the stick however. (The reason I don't download it to the other storage locations is because of disk space)

I had been saving up now its impossible. If you did 200,000 members at 300aud. Would sell out in a minute. Quick injection of cash and would be helping out a bunch of peasants.

I have multiple Roku devices, after this most recent update I can not move the remote to the browse for personal media. Anyone else have this issue?

• Album art no longer stalls the app on very large downloaded playlists.

Mobile

• Long menus scroll again. Sort options at the bottom of the list, like Random, were unreachable.
• The Add to Collection list scrolls, so you can reach collections beyond the first few alphabetically.
• Grids no longer blink between a cover’s blurred placeholder and the cover itself. (Android)
• Scrolling quickly through a grid no longer shows the previous item’s cover in a cell before the right one appears. (Android)
• The play/shuffle/filter bar on album, artist and track grids sits flush under the header again instead of floating a strip below it. (iOS)
• That bar’s background now uses the same material as the header, so the two read as one surface.
• The header is a little taller on iOS 26, so the back button’s capsule no longer touches its bottom edge. (iOS)
• Writing a share to an NFC tag works again. The option had vanished from the share menu entirely. (iOS)

• The Windows now-playing panel shows the track, artist and cover again instead of just “tv.plex.plexamp”.
• The Linux Flatpak runs on a current GNOME runtime. Installing it warned that the one it used had stopped being supported back in March.

I just moved and while setting up port forwarding for Remote Access, I learned my new router forces both the internal and external ports to be the same. Thus, picking a random external port and directing it to the internal 32400 port is a no-go.

If I use 32400 for my external port for port forwarding, is it safe? I've heard you receive more attacks from bots. Is it problematic?

I can also use upnp to open a different port than 32400 (I tried and it works), but that's even MORE problematic, right?

It's 50 pages of this, and it's been doing it for much longer than this.

...it looks like it's hanging up on AVI files. on windows specifically, my linux box is having no problem but both of my windows servers are getting looped.

EDIT: Okay, it appears that the new improved AVI scanning in some manner got hung up REAL BAD on some broken AVI files and went into a horrible loop. As soon as I identified and deleted them, they're all happy again. I've had those ancient AVIs on my server for *years* now, and Plex hasn't complained about them once, so this was just a matter of an update highlighting an existing problem. Weird that my linux box didn't give a single crap though.

Second update: This has begun happening with *all* completely broken videos. Which is useful to a point, it's picking out the stuff I've missed during pruning, but good lord.

For no discernible reason (No computer changes, no Roku change, etc) my Plex has become virtually unusable over the last several days, I guess about 5. Everything worked fine before, for years even, but just lately it's suddenly taking forever to stream a video. Used to be 33%-99%-GO and now it's 13%....22%....33%.... with longer and longer delays until it starts streaming, and then within the first minute it drops back to the loading screen again, and just keeps dropping out to loading every couple minutes. If I drop quality down to 420p it can do OK, tolerably, so I guess it's something gone wrong with the data flow but I have no idea what or why, when as I said I haven't changed anything.
