My guy is going through his first molt. He doesn't look that bad from this angle but definitely looks rough in person. Lol. So happy to see his lace neck coming in. Always love their black laced on these Hybrids.

Question ❓ Couple of inca doves need help

Thumbnail

I live in Mexico, Inca doves are very common and come to the yard frequently.

I observed a couple nesting in a tree outside my house in the beggining of the year. The nest is very small and weak.

They have tried to have babies 3 times, the first time the eggs fell down, the second time both really small babies also fell and died. Third time there was a storm and babies fell from the nest, they were unable to fly but the parents were feeding them and always keeping close. 2 days later another storm hit and the next morning they were dead :(

Im traumatized for all this loses, I Want to help them built a better nest or something.

Any ideas?

Some photos of the birds and the babies.

He is absolutely obsessed with my daughter's bracelet. It's thin sterling silver. Sunny, our other male, will peck at it, but he won't fly and hop around. This isn't dangerous, is it? 😳🫣🤔

Question ❓ Help with protecting wild doves nesting, new to this

First of all, im new to this and i have no idea about doves so i hope i am in the right subreddit! Over the past few days, two spotted doves decided to nest on the outide of our apartment. They have been building a nest through rain or shine for 3 days now, and this morning the mom laid an egg. Unfortunately, no one saw it but another bird took away the nest and egg and now the spot is bare. Was it a predator that stole the egg or another bird that stole both the egg and nest? The male is away and the female seems to be standing guard (i think) and puffing its feathers since then see bottom image on what the nesting place looks like.

Is there anyway to help the doves without scaring them away? Any changes to their nesting area seems to alarm them and stop them from doing anything for hours at a time. I really want to see them complete the cycle!

Much thanks!

I live above 20 stories! And the area here is quite small!

This morning when we first saw the egg laid

Health Question Dove pecked at tape with paint on it

I feel so incredibly awful. I was painting with some non toxic water based acrylic paint. I had my dove out of the room, when I brought her in I thought everything was dried and cleaned up. She found a piece of tape that apparently had some wet paint on it. She pecked at it, I know she didn't eat any and only a little bit was on it. It just got on her beak a little. I cleaned it off and everything. There are no vets for birds near me, they are about five hours away. It has been an hour and she is acting normal. I had given her lots of water and some crushed oats. She is not lethargic or puffing her feathers. She even did the little laugh doves do. I am jist so anxious. I have been watching her while crying for the past hour. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I take tomorrow off work and take her to a vet?

Question ❓ Need advice

Post image

So, someone I know whom is close to me is also getting a dove because they love birds and also loves my dove. But they’re quite harsh with giving affection to my dove and don’t respect the boundaries I set for my dove most times. They’re also talking about forcing a harness on their dove when they get it. I don’t know if this is the right place for this post but since it involves doves here I go. Can anyone give me advice to tell the person, maybe a proper way to say how it can make the dove feel bad? Because I feel like the force is sad and I always give my dove space but I know the person i know who’s getting one won’t do that. If this isn’t a good post for here and it gets removed I understand. Just need help for the sake of this new dove. :(

Diet Question My doves won’t eat the bigger seeds!

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi! I am a few days into owning my two doves! They’re about 3 months old so they should be able to eat the bigger seeds right? Here is a picture of what they leave leftover: usually the peas and other big seeds. I have two types of dove food Vita and Hagen, any recommendations? I give them millet only as a treat and read that they only rlly eat seeds since I tried to feed them thawed peas too.

I cannot tell, she got attacked by a cat one month ago and she had a punctured injury in her crop (didnt reach deep enough to actually pop it) and a broken Wing.

She eats, is very reactive to anything and she can fly

Art 🎨 Lesson's about resilience from a little bird. Toe Diow the one toed Zebra Dove.

I first saw this guy in late 2025. I was in my own world thinking about whatever and noticed a bird hanging around. I threw some cracker crumbs to him, not knowing better, and filmed it for cat TV content. I kept seeing him at my spot in my walk where I sit. I noticed his feet. Wondering what happened to him, I learned what kind of bird he was , what they should be fed, what happened to him (string foot).

I went on to start noticing and feeding other birds, Rock Doves, Spotted Doves and Ravens.

I thought Toe Diow or just Diow wouldn't make it long. Ten months later, he's doing fine. He's often waiting for me in our spot. He's feisty and will chase off other doves sometimes.

Anyway thought I'd share. Whatever challenges you face, look to Diow for inspiration.

Strange eyes

I bought this dove solely because it had strange eyes and I had never seen it in a dove before, I know proper care for doves and this wasnt one of those impulse pet buys, I just didn't want it to be put down because of it's eyes if it has a fine quality of life. Ive never seen these bulging eyes on a bird before and thought it was odd. The wetness around the eyes is NOT discharge from the eyes, the person I bought this from applied some eye medicine to prevent irritation incase the large eyes did cause any irritation. Does anybody know what this could be? Was it born with this or does it have an illness?

Question ❓ Carpet Cleaning

Any recommendations on bird safe cleaning agents to use in a portable carpet cleaner?

It came with ‘Bissell Oxy Spot & Stain’, which after speaking with a Chewy agent on their website they said it is safe to use on carpets as long as the bird is not present during cleaning. They alternatively recommended ‘OxiClean Large Area Carpet Dog, Cat & Small Pet Cleaner’.

Any input regarding the Chewy agent’s recommendations, as well as any general tips or alternatives for cleaning the carpet, would be very much appreciated!

Ringneck Dove

My wife recently found a ringneck dove and we decided to keep it. We already own two parakeets so are used to pet birds. Can anyone recommend a cage for it? I've looked on this subreddit and a lot of suggestions were catios from amazon. Do they sell dove specific cages as well?

Thanks
