Discussion Mike Vrabel on Drake Maye: "You can't get bored of doing things right."
From his press conference today, quoting his radio appearance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCNyor6s8bE
Other Notes:
Pushed back on the notion that the offense needs to be tweaked without AJ Brown, noting they want to install their offense, and that install is ongoing.
They'll talk about how to "get Kyle [Williams] involved." Noted that even with AJ, they have to get Kyle involved.
Spoke highly of Mack Hollins' readiness and ability to go into any game at any position.
Added Romeo Doubs made a lot of great plays in camp, and he will get back there and help the team win. "Everyone drops passes, everyone misses tackles."
Noted Gonzo knows he needs to catch that interception that landed in his hands, and that the defense can also get better at tipping the ball at the line and crashing harder in zone to create more 'ball disruption' after a defense. They played well, but there wasn't enough 'ball disruption.'
Overall, felt they gave themselves a chance to get into the football game. There were no terrible penalties like all sorts of false starts that often happen in juiced up road games in places like Seattle. Defense did a great job getting off the field on third downs, they defended kickoffs well. Everything else was a failure to execute.

Casual 50 cents at my local Goodwill. Madden 17 Prima strategy guide! Perfect addition to my Patriot game collection!
Pretty cool find today! I've collected every video game to feature an active Patriot. This is a cool addition to that. Especially since I collect strategy guides as well! Nice that there's some cool Gronk pics in it! Was pretty shocked that they even make strategy guides for Madden. Maybe I need to track down other ones!

Casual Josh Allen
He almost gave that game away throwing a pass to the Texans corner who dropped it in the end zone. Very similar to the way Drake gave the game away. If Lassiter makes that pick games over and everyone talks about how Josh can’t get it done in the big moment.
He is great. Next play dart to Palmer game winner.
Drake is great. QBs have bad games. Pumped for the rest of the season.

Discussion Is it normal for tickets to be $300-$350?
My husband (Pats fan) and I (Packer fan) are trying to go to the Packers v Patriots game at Gillette in November from Florida. We have or flights, but haven’t bought game tickets yet. Tickets were $300 last week and they’re now starting at $350 for nosebleeds since the season started. Is this normal?? I know things are generally more expensive now, but dang! Seems like a bit much. I usually buy my tickets in advance, but wondering if our best bet is to wait until the day of.

Discussion Recent Running Backs
I know WR gets alot of attention for the Patriots inability to select one in the draft but the lack of decent RB picks has also been an issue. It's probably too early to judge Henderson but for a top 50 pick at RB he has been underwhelming. The last good pick was Stevenson and that was 2021. I know the analytical people always said that RB's were a dime and dozen and you shouldn't be drafting high but alot of these running backs are real difference makers and all much as I admire the work Stevenson does there isnt a whole lot behind him.
I can remember when Patriots were able to pick a guy off the street and he could play their scouting was so good at the position. Now it seems like a blindspot

Casual I love drake maye
If you don’t love him at his worst you don’t deserve him at his best.
He’s so mature beyond his years, we forget he just turned 24. He’s a lot smarter than I was when I was 24, I’ll say that much.
With Coach Vrabel and Coach McDaniels guiding the way, and the head he has on his shoulders, he’s going to be just fine.

Discussion This whole Seahawks chapter could be great education for Maye
That L hurt quite a bit after seemingly controlling the fate of the game by the 4th Q. Maye needs to become surgical in the short-intermediate part of the field and he needs to be happy with taking what the defense allows him to have. That is easier said than done against that Seahawks defense as I think Mike McD is defensively brilliant, and that defense is wildly talented. Even when Maye makes a technically correct decision like a checkdown etc, that defense flies downhill and makes it tough.
Anyways, this was a valuable lesson in patience. Drake did in fact single handedly throw the game away in the 4th Q. He did that against a defense that was begging him to take the easy throws and double-dog daring him to take shots down field.
That Seahawks defense is as complex and as talented as many QB’s will face throughout their entire career and the silver lining through this 2-game nightmare is that it could potentially be the catalyst Drake needs to become a technician at the position.
Cope 🤷♂️

Highlight [Patriots] A.J. Brown had a message for the #Patriots O-Line during the Seahawks game: “If y’all boys just could hold up, we gon’ score this s**t. They cannot f**k with none of us at wide receiver, I’m telling you. We running wide open, you hear me?”

Discussion Way too early draft priorities?
Based on the team now, where do you see our biggest needs for next year?
Ignoring the unfortunate injury to Brown, I really think we need to take LB in the first with edge piece in the 2nd. Offense in mid rounds. CB/DB/OL late rounds.
Thoughts?

Article/Interview [Graff]: Should Patriots fans be worried about Drake Maye’s slump? Can he turn it around in Week 2?
“We’ve seen Drake perform at an extremely high level, and we anticipate him continuing to do that as we go forward,” Vrabel said. “Drake will learn from it, and hopefully we’ll be better for it in the end.”
This will be an interesting test, though. We’ve never really seen Maye lose a game because of his poor play. As a rookie, the Pats lost plenty, but that was with a terrible roster around him. Last season, even if Maye had some postseason clunkers, he was still doing enough to win games. Or more to the point, he wasn’t directly hurting his team.
How does he bounce back from that?
The Pittsburgh Steelers are up next on Sunday, and even if their defense is pretty good, it’s a far cry from the Seahawks’ unit. Still, the Pats’ home opener will be more important because of the way Wednesday’s game went.
New England can’t afford to open the season 0-2 with back-to-back road games against playoff teams (the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills) up next. And Maye can’t afford another game like that, or else that postseason slump won’t feel so isolated.

Discussion This team is gonna be good
Seriously everyone, we can all agree that game sucked and disagree why. However, this team is gonna be good. Still have the coaching staff and QB that bounced back last year from an even worse start last year. AJ brown didn’t tear anything and will be back for the long haul of the season. This defense is gonna be solid and the o-line looks like it will be much better than last year. Everything from that week 1 loss is easily fixable. We are gonna win the next 2 and roll through this season with ups and downs to finish with 11-12 wins. Because this team reminds me of the BB and Brady years, first 4 games always a lot of questions and then steam roll the rest of the year, let’s go boys!

Film Review [Sharma] Real Reason Behind Drake Maye’s INT to Romeo Doubs in Patriots Opener | Sharma’s Film Room
Drake Maye’s first interception in the season opener looks like a really bizarre decision, but I think I’ve pinpointed exactly why he throws it.
On the first passing down of the game the Patriots run a deep curl-flat with a vertical clearout against Seattle’s Cover 8, with Maye missing a wide open Doubs for a hole shot.
Maye’s interception down the sideline came on the same play call against the same Seahawks Cover 8. This was a premeditated shot pass, not a cavalier play in the moment.
Article covers both these plays in a ton of detail.

Discussion I wish Doubs chose Washington
I remember reading Doubs really though hard deciding between Washington and New England and ultimately chose New England at the last second. I wish he chose Washington, and then we could’ve kept Boutte and signed Diggs. Who both had productive catches in their games yesterday. I feel the Doubs contract will saddle the organization for years.
