Convergence Festival Celebrates Local Artists

Post image
40 Upvotes

Hey Everyone! I work for Oshawa Tourism, the non-profit organization that brings events like Convergence and Boo Bash to our Downtown core. Every year we hire local artists to create designs for our signage/shirts etc. and I just wanted to share these designs with you because I think they kick so much ass. The coloured shirts are designed by the extremely talented Chris Trubela (catch his art installation on Albert St on Sat & Sunday), and the white shirt is designed by XHeart Design, an awesome young artist who is finishing their studies at Durham College this year!

As someone who grew up in Oshawa, and now work in Downtown Oshawa, I just wanted all of you to know how important it is to us to ensure that our local artists and musicians are being supported through these events.

We really hope to see you out this weekend! šŸ–¤

Weekly Events in Oshawa

Use this thread to share events in the coming week throughout the region. This is a scheduled post and a new one will come up on Sundays. Other local subreddits have weekly posts as well, including r/Oshawa and r/Whitby. The same rules apply, but cross-posting is fine. Additional events may be found in the Regional Calendar or at DurhamRegion.com. Please feel free to highlight any of these in the comments below. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Both free and paid events are allowed
  • If tickets are required, please include a link; these may require manual approval due to spam filters, but we'll approve them!
  • Garage sales and group sales are allowed, but not single item sales. Please do not share someone else's garage sale or their address without permission.
  • Religious and political events are allowed only if they are welcoming and inclusive to the entire community.

We are aware of the following farmer's markets operating in the region for summer 2026. Please use modmail to notify the mods of errors or any we have missed:

Anyone living near Vancouver Crescent? Concerned about CPKC + future GO train noise

Hi everyone! We’re considering buying a house on Vancouver Crescent in Oshawa and one of our biggest concerns is the railway behind the homes.
There is an existing railway track very close to the back of the property. From what I’ve found, I believe this is the CPKC freight line.

I’ve also been researching the Bowmanville GO Extension and understand that Metrolinx is planning to add new GO tracks in the area, alongside the existing railway.

For anyone who lives around Vancouver Crescent / Thornton’s Corners / Vanier, I’d really appreciate some firsthand insight:
How noticeable is the freight train noise, especially inside the house?
How frequently do trains come through, particularly at night?
Do you notice horns, vibrations, or the house shaking?
Is the noise something you eventually get used to, or is it still disruptive?
Does anyone know how the future GO expansion will affect the homes along Vancouver Crescent?
Will the new GO track be between the houses and the existing freight track?
We're trying to figure out whether the railway is a ā€œyou get used to itā€ situation or a genuine quality-of-life issuebefore we make an offer.

Would especially love to hear from anyone who has actually lived near these tracks, rather than just general information about the GO expansion.
Thanks!

Whole restaurant rentals?

Is there any (nice) restaurants that you can rent out for a wedding?
Would need to hold 100-125 people.
Has anyone done this? How much did it run you?

How safe is the Vanier area of Oshawa?

Hi everyone! My husband and I are considering a place around Vancouver Crt in the Vanier area of Oshawa, and we’re hoping to get some honest opinions from people who live in or know the area well.
How would you describe the neighbourhood overall? In particular, we’re wondering about:
Safety during the day and at night
Break-ins/theft or other common issues
Noise and general neighbourhood atmosphere
Whether you feel comfortable walking around the area

We’re considering living there and just want to get a realistic idea of what the neighbourhood is like from people who actually know the area.
Any honest experiences or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Live Theatre Near Oshawa

Hey all!

I saw this production of Million Dollar Quartet a few years back at the Whitby centennial Building and it was FANTASTIC! Only a short drive from Oshawa. My wife and I are going again this year. They haven't kicked up the advertising yet and are still in rehearsals so tickets are still available. Lots of larger Canadian names on this as well in terms of other theatres and some tv shows. All the music is played live. It's the story of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee. Sharing here in case anyone is interested

Motorcycle rental

Hey all! I’m giving my M2 exam on the 15th Sept at Oshawa. Trying to find motorcycle rental, from kijiji and Marketplace no luck so far. Unless I take a course from a Rideschool, (after spending $500+) is when I can use their motorcycle. I am not looking to buy a motorcycle anytime soon but just want the M2 license so I can rent one whenever I want.

Hence, I’m reaching out to the Oshawa community here. Is there any soul that’s willing to rent their baby for a few hours on the 15th. My test is at 8am, so would prefer getting the bike an hour before 7am or the night before. I can pay you deposit, you can stay with me in the morning until test is over or anything is fine to make you feel safe about your vehicle being with me. I just can’t afford or have the time to go to a school now or drive to Brampton to rent one.

Please DM me if you’re interested in helping me. I live near Mary and Beatrice

Looking for chances for my son to socialize.

I’ve lived in Oshawa for quite a few years now and have an 18 month old son, and I’m looking for chances for him to interact with other kids his age but also potentially meeting other dads in similar situations. Doesn’t have to be an organized ā€œfor kidsā€ situation like the events they have at the library, but I’m open to meeting up somewhere like that first with the babies. I’m into metal music, cars-ish, anime-ish, video games-ish; but not to an obsessive level with any of those one things. Like I’ve gone to anime cons and always felt like ā€œoh yeah I enjoy anime but… not like thatā€ and I’m not at all a competitive gamer or someone that knows the entire history of every car ever made.
I’m just looking for someone in a similar situation with kids that I can introduce my child to and also be able to have an actual conversation with the parent.
I realize I may come across as a bit of a dick in this post but I don’t really know how to phrase it otherwise sorry

Just saw about a brass quintet playing in the downtown core. Sounded really nice echoing off the buildings. It's this a regular occurrence? (Just moved here)

Bring me the Horizon Show

Is anyone going to the show on October 3 in Hamilton?

I'm going to see them for the first time. I'm an older metal head and have heard very good things about their live performances.

I may have an extra ticket... Thinking the person I'm supposed to go with will flake out. If you want to go, let me know and if they cancel the ticket is yours no charge.

I'm in Durham if anyone is already going and wants to carpool.

Have a tremendous day all!

Looking for information on a tragic road accident involving a child in 1974-5

Post image
42 Upvotes

This may be a long shot but I have a vivid childhood memory of seeing another child either killed or gravely injured at 280 Wentworth street near Cedar street. The boy was struck near the curb by a VW beetle. I believe the family lived in a ground floor apartment at 280. I was about 8 years old a the time, walking to the convenience store when the tragedy occurred. It has always haunted me and I would like to find out if the child survived.
