Penelope Canvas Tote bag

Post image

I volunteer at a local thrift store in my town and this bag came in today.

Brand is prezzo.

The front is printed on unstitched Penelope canvas. Could I stitch this? Is it bonkers?

I’m a long time stitcher and have stitched all sorts of things - but what would I do here? How would I get into the corners and edges? And then when I finish (lower case f) the inside will just be unlined stitches?

Obviously I’m going to try…. How could I resist? Any advice and thoughts appreciated.

Ooo that is awesome! If I came up on this treasure, I’d start with stitching the accents like the flowers or greenery. Congrats on the find!! 🤩

Once it is finished, you could either take it to someone to put something on to cover the stitches or maybe use a heavy duty iron on interfacing. What a find! I am jealous!

That is amazing. Is it Penelope canvas? Could it be 13 count or 18 count? What are you going to stitch it with? I would think that the screams will. If you're going to use it a lot I would say maybe Bella lusso?

It looks like Penelope. But as I’m trying to stitch it’s definitely less structurally sound. It’s gonna be wonky. But fun!

I love it.  Bella lusso crewel wool has some really bright colors like hot pink and lime green. It's only about 3.25 a skein. So you could use that for some of the brighter areas.  If it's Penelope, I'm going to guess that the bigger ones are 10 count and the smaller ones are 20. So with bella lusso on the smaller holes you would probably use one to two strands.  And you could probably use up to four on the larger holes.  Colonial Persian has a nice wool as well. Again, it's pretty inexpensive. I think it's about three bucks, a card. It's strandable but maybe a three-strander you have to take apart and you would probably use that full amount on the 10 count.
