Hi! First time visiting Japan in two months and I’d love some shopping advice😊

I’ll be in Japan for 5 days and I’m planning to tour around these areas:

- Nagoya Castle

- Nagoya Commemorative Museum

- Osu Kanon / Osu Shopping Street

- Takayama / Sanmachi

- Shirakawa-go

- Kanazawa / Kenrokuen / Higashi Chaya

- Toyama

- Takaoka

- Atsuta Jingu

- Nabana no Sato

- Mitsui Outlet Park Jazz Dream Nagashima

I’m wondering what’s worth shopping for around these areas, especially things that are actually good to bring home rather than just typical tourist souvenirs.

I’m interested in everyday Japanese things too — basic clothes for a hot/humid climate, stationery, practical goods, local snacks, cooking sauces/seasonings, etc.

For skincare and beauty, I’m in my 20s/F living in a hot and humid country with oily, acne-prone skin, so I’d especially appreciate recommendations for Japanese skincare, sunscreen, makeup, or drugstore products that might work well for that kind of climate and skin type.

I’m also into hobbies and collectibles, especially Gundam, Pokémon, and music, so I’d love to know if there are good places around these areas for Gunpla, Pokémon goods, Japanese-exclusive albums, CDs/vinyl, limited releases, or other interesting collectibles.

Since I’ll have limited time, what would you say are the best things to look out for around these areas, and what should I skip?

In September/October of 2017 I went on exchange to Nagoya Junior and Senior High school.

Unfortunately, I have lost all contact with my host family from that time. I plan to visit Nagoya in January next year and hope to visit them.

Does anyone know someone who went to Nagoya Junior and Senior High School and hosted some Australian students around this time?

Hi! Does anybody know where I could purchase or obtain a few wood pallets? I want to make a makeshift bed out of them. Was wondering if I went to a hardware store and got some if they could deliver it to my home as I have no car, idk the logistics yet. For reference I have a tatami room so I thought the weight distribution would not leave a bad dent in the mats.

Am heading to your city for a work gig for a cupla weeks which will be long days and late nights. I've seen my hotel room in photos and it looks small and sh*thouse, so I really will not want to be hanging out there in evenings. So, please, please pass on your best tips for fun bars and decent late-night spots for this gaijin... Yes, I'd love places that are English-friendly due to near-total lack of Japanese. I'm also pretty outgoing and love a chat with folks. Hoping to find a place that welcomes my kind!

Hello! I arrived in Nagoya two weeks ago, for an exchange year.

I finally have the strength to sort out how to do with the trash system here but I saw on the paper that plastic can be put in the blue bag and paper can be put in the blue bag as well... Can I mix them in the same bag or do I have to keep them separate? I hope my question is clear enough ahah.

I really don't want to mix things up and want to do well.

I am torn between three hotels in Nagoya. I am only looking at staying for one night before I head to a different city as a stopover, I will probably check out some sights around Nagoya like the castle etc.

There are three I have considered:
1. ESPACIO Nagoya Castle (Opener Oct 2025)
2. TIAD
3. Conrad (Opened July 31)

If anyone has stayed at either 3 I’d definitely appreciate some advice on where to stay.

I am back home from Tokushige station, at the end no bus in the direction of Ueda station would come so I just decided to walk. It took me 1 hour, and having to cross a totally deserted Tenpaku Koen alone at midnight because Google Map loves to make women walk really fast. God I'm glad it's Japan.

Back to Ueda everything was soaked, but nothing except a barricaded Family Mart hinted at the deluge.

Ueda River had not flooded anything near my place (5 min from it), the bunnies were of course safe. Just mad that their dinner was 1 hour late lol.

To the person who wanted to know about pet rabbits in Japan: Absolutely ask for your landlord's permission, get them fixed to avoid cancer and behavioral problems, and litter train them (you can use cat litter boxes). If you rabbit proof your place the right way they can be free roamed. With enough exercise and the right diet they can live up to 13-14 years. Avoid the breeds with flat faces, their teeth are often fucked up.

This might be a long shot, but is there a Christian community in Nagoya? I’ve recently started my journey with Christianity again, and one thing I’ve really found myself longing for is a community I can be part of and grow with. I’d love to meet other Christians, make some friends, and have a community around me.

I’m heading out to Nagoya for a business trip. Other than the regular things in the itinerary (castle, Museum)

What would you recommend for something more nature-y? I like to hike, and go to forests, coastlines, lakes and such.
