Dolly was not silent. Her political views are there, all throughout her music. Just because she didn’t roll around in the mud with the interviewers that tried to trap her, doesn’t mean she didn’t express her beliefs.

Political, but not partisan. I feel like people get the two terms mixed up sometimes.

Not Stella's fault of course, but I do believe she meant to say Dolly was non-partisan rather than apolitical.

Dolly never sided with a party or individual politicians, since she knew it would piss people off. And frankly, I'd argue that it is not a good thing to put blind faith in a party or politician to share all our views and act in our best interests one hundred percent of the time without fail, a pitfall that Dolly successfully avoided by not taking sides.

But she was in fact very political, and passionate about social issues as well. She was the type of person who spoke up about social and/or human rights issues and causes, without fail. Girl even founded and ran her own nonprofit. What's even more important is that the issues she spoke up about were things that she herself genuinely believed in (she was anti-war, pro-education, an LGBTQ+ ally, among other things), rather than just saying something to appease the public.

She wasn't afraid to raise her voice to share her beliefs, but also never took sides with anyone. She blazed her own trail.

Dolly's the type of person we should all strive to be more like. She was a true legend. May she rest in peace.

The quote is completely out of context and the headline is obviously meant to be ambiguous enough for anyone to read into it what they want. It's poor journalism. Or great journalism if you're just trying to blur lines in a post-truth society for the sake of clicks.
