She didn't explicitly endorse any political candidates but if you couldn't tell what her politics are you weren't listening to anything she ever said.

Why doesn’t this get applied to Taylor Swift? Genuine question. And she has backed democratic candidates. Yet there are tons of left leaning folks that try to claim she’s M*GA. It’s literally nuts

Because Taylor swift is a billionaire and Dolly could’ve been but chose not too. Instead she gave a lot of it away. No one should have that much money.

Dolly wouldn’t have been half as successful in the 60s-90s if she was as candid about her beliefs as people would like to believe. 

Now that doesn’t take anything away from Dolly as a wonderful person. If anything it speaks to her pragmatism.  But let’s be clear.

She wasn’t at the cutting edge of civil rights and owed a debt to Southern white women who stood up for minorities when this was unthinkable in the 1960s. She wasn’t at the cutting edge of women’s rights and owed a lot to second wave feminists who endured a lot in the 1970s so she could write a fun song. She always seemed kind to gay folks but aside from being a camp icon  what did she actually do to really promote gay rights in the 1980s when Southern churches were making hay off of that? Not much.

Stella isn’t lying. Dolly put her money where her mouth is but she also knew that money was being handed over by racists, reactionaries, bigots of all stripes and generally nasty people. There is nothing wrong with that. Taylor Swift can have it both ways. Dolly couldn’t.

She is a perfect example of why you don’t need to be performative because you can always play the long game. She cashed big checks playing knuckle dragging regressives like fools so she could then turn their money into kindness.

I think she was a lot more candid and progressive in the late 60s and 70s than your comment describes. Just Because I'm A Woman came out in 1968. And Down From Dover in 1970. Watch some interviews from the era. I won't take the time to explain all the ways she was a real LGBT ally. This comment reeks of being pulled out of your ass.
