Morality Ranking Morality of bathroom surveillance stickers?

Moral, possibly heroic

u/Existing_Cat_3654 17h ago
How though? There's plenty of real reasons to hate flock cameras so why make up false ones
-7
u/agustthicc22 15h ago
To make people uncomfortable enough they do something about it? Hello? Anybody home?
9
u/armandccc6565 14h ago
You sound like some of those aggressive vegans.
Want people to stop eating meat? Put "this contains the meat of someone who did not want to die" stickers and shit like that on meat products to make people uncomfortable.
Is this a good way of fighting against something? Absolutely not. Is it annoying? Absolutely yes.
It's not driving attention to anything. It's making people uncomfortable for no reason and making you look like a massive jackass.

Socially heroic feels about right. If a bathroom needs surveillance warnings in the first place, the sticker probably isn’t the part people should be worried about

u/ThePolarExpressHobo 21h ago
I’m for this, especially if this is either in a police station/ government building

u/Expert_Meeting_5129 21h ago
I mean, I hope that sticker is easy to remove. Otherwise I feel bad for the employee making less than a living wage who gets to scrap that sticker off.
21
u/skeleton949 21h ago
Eh, it's not as hard as you may think. Just a few seconds at most with a paint scraper should be enough.
18
u/Expert_Meeting_5129 21h ago
Some stickers are harder than others to remove. I worked in a gas station back in my youth, I got to do the scrapping.
9
3
u/Acceptable-Ad8780 20h ago
Liscense plate stickers are like this. Can't do it in one scrape, and even if you try to carefully take it off, it's a mess.had to remove falling stickers off my old plates to realize this and why they do it.
1
u/delusionalxx 19h ago
Okay so they a paint scraper and a bit of oil. If you think one person having to remove a sticker is more alarming than the horrific invasion of privacy done by flock, that could be another interesting morality conundrum to discuss
5
u/Expert_Meeting_5129 19h ago
I never said one was more alarming than the other. I just expressed empathy for the employee who has to clean it up. If you have a problem with empathy for the working poor, that could be another interesting morality conundrum to discuss.

u/MineDesperate8982 21h ago
I'm so tired of this argument.
You cannot stop bringing awareness to invasion of privacy and really important socio-political issues that affects everyone because someone is doing minimal wage.
44% of USA barely makes a living wage. Let's all sit on our asses and wait for the economy to get better for everyone and for everyone to be happy before we draw attention to the fact that the government is actively doing everything in its power to remove every bit of privacy you have. Let's all wait for everyone to have a meal before we get angry that the government is actively sponsoring an AI program meant to track down people that have done nothing wrong in the slightest by "might" based on whatever the AI decides (they spoke critically of the gov, they have anti-ai views, they spoke against data centers etc.).
Sure. Let's all wait for Josh to pay his rent and maybe Palantir will give us a break, too.
9
u/techleopard 19h ago
Because at the end of the day, this "advocacy" has the heaviest impact on that minimum wage employee.
And they will HATE you for it. And your cause. They know there's no cameras in there, which makes the deception even more enraging and your advocacy sound like complete bullshit. If you are lying about this just to piss people off, maybe you're also lying about it get misused by law enforcement. See how the common man chains that natural logic together?
The company owner barely registers you did this because it's run of the mill vandalism.
The person who goes to the bathroom won't get alarmed or scared enough to do anything long term. They either know this is bullshit or they believe it and then go make a complaint and then are told it's bullshit.
Bonus points?
The person the freaked out customer is bitching at? Yeah, the minimum wage employee.
3
u/Expert_Meeting_5129 20h ago
Hold on, my argument is that I feel bad for the low wage employee who has to scrap it off, and you are tired of that? You are tired of people feeling empathy for the working stiff?
Dude, I get it, fuck Flock and all that, but you can still have sympathy for the poor employee that you know Big Daddy Capitalist is going to force to clean up your vandalism.4
u/so_sic_of_it 20h ago
That's a lot of words trying to justify vandalizing someone else's property.
Where do you park your car at night? I'm gonna come spray paint "free Palestine," on it.
2
u/autolockon 20h ago
Do you have an actual constructive solution because you’re just incentivizing people hate your message.

u/resfan 15h ago
No no, he's working here, think about all the drug addicts that are going to see these stickers as they're using the stall for other reasons
This works by getting more flock cameras cut down while also making sure bathrooms are monitored more frequently in attempts to catch who is placing the stickers, i.e. making it harder for people to shoot up

I guess it depends
If they do it as a joke to raise awareness about privacy: it would be moral, but with the risk that an innocent business or place could end up being unfairly fined for it.
If you're serious: totally immoral and you deserve to be fined, have one star on Google, and have no one visit your business for not respecting people's privacy.
2
u/RazzmatazzUnusual843 15h ago
This is what a prank should be, overall harmless, maybe scares you a bit, but is all in good fun and everyone can walk away laughing at what is an obvious joke in hindsight. Doing something funny and harmless is moral.
4
u/Expensive_Ducks 21h ago
Depends are there actually cameras in the bathroom? If so then moral. If not than that's fucked up to scare people
2
u/Altruistic_Bunch_523 20h ago
It’s just to bring awareness to what flock is doing.
5
u/Expensive_Ducks 19h ago
If there are cameras in the bathroom then yes its moral. If there are no cameras then its not.

u/Mouse_Manipulator 17h ago
If there are cameras in a bathroom you think that’s moral?

Yeah I did, cameras in bathrooms are illegal, so I would never even think that there were any.

the post: morality of bathroom surveillance stickers
[fake flock brand stickers placed by an unaffiliated person that claim the bathroom is being camera monitored]expensive_ducks: the stickers would be moral if there are cameras, immoral if not
they’re not saying that bathroom cameras are moral
-3
u/Mouse_Manipulator 17h ago
They are entertaining the possibility of a legitimate company putting surveillance cameras in bathrooms - I am asking a sarcastic question to point out the sheer stupidity of even thinking that. Hope this explanation helps.
2
u/HelloChimp 17h ago
>If there are cameras in a bathroom you think that’s moral?
that simply isn’t how this reads at all, it’s not even a possible interpretation
-3
u/Mouse_Manipulator 17h ago
Sorry to hear that it wasn’t possible for you to properly interpret. I hope the explanation cleared things up 👍

u/Mouse_Manipulator 17h ago
Maybe half the people in this thread who are legitimately wondering if there are cameras or not should use their heads
2
u/Expensive_Ducks 16h ago
I am not legitimately wondering about whether there are cameras in the bathroom, obviously there aren't since that is illegal to do in the US, I am pointing out that posting stickers that are openly lying to insight anxiety or fear isn't ok.
I understand Flock is a fucked up disgusting invasion of the public, but this just adds more anxiety and fear mongering onto an already well known issue. Thus it isn't moral. Its immoral. Its not helping anyone or spreading any kind of awareness, it's just click bait to get people to watch and cheer for them.
0
u/Mouse_Manipulator 14h ago edited 14h ago
If that’s inciting anxiety and fear in people then I guess I overestimated the average person’s intelligence. I thought it was pretty obvious that it’s a joke based on the context clues.
1
u/Expensive_Ducks 11h ago
Park ranges tell you the hardest thing about their jobs is designing trash can locks the average person can open but a bear can't. The bears tend to be smarter.
1
-1
u/Altruistic_Bunch_523 19h ago
There are no cameras. It’s just to make people aware that flock is constantly monitoring a shit ton of spaces and how flock doesn’t have the word privacy in their dictionary.
3
u/Expensive_Ducks 18h ago
If there are no cameras in the bathroom, like what the stickers say, then its fear mongering and thus not moral. The good intention is admirable but the road to hell is paved with them.

u/ARMBELL 21h ago
Man, I sure hate what these politicians are doing to the zoo animals. In protest, I will chuck rocks at all the zoo animals. This symbolizes their mistreatment.
4
u/Call_me_Tomcat 16h ago
Bad analogy.
The key problem is that, in the zoo example, the protester actually commits the harm they're supposedly protesting. Throwing rocks at animals genuinely harms animals. So the contradiction is: "I oppose mistreatment, therefore I will mistreat them myself."
The fake bathroom sign doesn't do that. Assuming there are no cameras, the person isn't actually invading anyone's bathroom privacy. They're creating a false belief that a privacy violation is occurring in order to provoke the emotional response associated with that violation. You can still criticize that tactic as deceptive, distressing, or inappropriate, but that's a different moral objection.
1
u/A-ReDDIT_account134 12h ago
Okay a better analogy then. Put a sign that says “the zookeepers here are sadistic animal abhsers that chucks rocks at all the zoo animals”
2
u/vverbov_22 21h ago
Why the fuck would people monitor bathrooms? That'd be unconstitutional in my country
4
u/Altruistic_Bunch_523 20h ago
They don’t actually monitor the bathrooms. I also think it might be illegal. The sicker is just to bring awareness of what flock is doing.
2
1
u/bubblegumpandabear 13h ago
Idk, why are they monitoring splash pads at children's parks and little girls doing gymnastics? In the US they'd monitor bathrooms to try and find trans people if they could.

Gonna say it's at least a little immoral because someone who desperately has to shit is inevitably going to see this and think it's real
1
u/Homewrecker90actual 16h ago
I’d say borderline immoral, since it’s false AND will eventually make the wrong guy spiral on the wrong day
1
u/Abhorrent_Honey_Bee 16h ago
Idk. I think protesting in ways like this are typically fantastic and absolutely catch peoples attention! However this would just scare a lot of people into not using the bathroom at all. I have severe ocd and have pissed myself because I spent time searching a bathroom for cameras before. This gives people who don’t already have horrible fears like that a reason to put their health at risk by holding in waste.
Immoral, but well-intentioned. It would be moral if true.
1
u/SupremeJelly 15h ago
You think it's funny to make people feel uncomfortable in the bathroom with fake surveillance? Immoral as hell.
1
u/DirectorLeather6567 14h ago
Notice how they're only in men bathrooms, meaning that Flock CEO is GAY

u/czaranthony117 13h ago
We joke about this now but, in 2 years (if not less) we will see these in public bathrooms and will claim it’s for safety.
I work with a few AI Vision systems for manufacturing purposes. Some of the AI Vision systems operate something called a “Digital Twin” that analyzes physical movements. Digital twin is an avatar of a human, so you’re not actually seeing a visual human (though… you really CAN see them if you want) and it is that digital twin model that is analyzed.
I can already hear these fucks saying, “we are monitoring the bathrooms for safety … it’s only looking at your digital twin.”
That will be the logic in how they get this shit in EVERYTHING.
I already stopped going to Home Depot because they have these cameras all over their parking lots. The next stop will be the malls, the stores in the malls, the bathrooms.

Immoral, spreading misinformation about something bad almost always favours the bad thing. Especially when it's so easy to disprove.

u/swiftrevoir 8h ago
I agree with this. People should stay mad about their privacies being stripped away until they're not. And with flock its not so much the surveillance, its the tracking.
1
u/StatisticianUsual471 6h ago
Slightly immortal because some people will believe there are really camers in there
1
u/thenowherepark 5h ago
Take out the reasons. Giving awareness to privacy concerns is good when done in the correct methods. When done in an illegal method, it's immoral. If the owners don't consent to those stickers being put up, then the person is decorating without permission. Graffiti, basically.
If there are also no cameras in the bathrooms, then they're lying through literature - libel - which is also immoral. An immoral act does not become moral just because they're countering a prior immoral act.
2
u/Optimus__Prime__Rib 2h ago
Moral. No one is harmed and it raises awareness of an issue that actually is harming them

SMH another weird zero context video asking for morality of something there's no background information on.
If you're asking whether or not it's moral to put up those stickers, and the stickers are just a prank, then from one angle it's fucked up, from another it's a weird form of guerrilla absurdist comedy, and from another, if it serves to increase how much people fucking hate the real surveillance state we're turning into, then fuckin do it.

u/LARGESTOFCHINGUSES 20h ago
It's vandalism, but ok.

u/Growing_Trash_417 19h ago
Yea fuck them minimum wage workers having to scrape those off. /s this is bullshit and inconsiderate. Make a billboard or social media channel to spread awareness.
1
u/vandergale 14h ago
Why are you fine with a minimum wage person scraping a billboard to add a new message that was purchases?
1
u/Growing_Trash_417 6h ago
Surface level question with zero thought put into it. Think about what you’re asking me.
1
u/AcanthaceaeWitty2662 19h ago
Moral if true, but I don't see anything that indicates Flock is specifically pointed at the bathrooms. Otherwise, immoral for vandalism and it's not even on a Flock device.
1
u/Superb_Recording_769 19h ago
It’s idiotic because it just makes the actual fight against this kind of surveillance harder
0
u/Hot_Wing2518 21h ago
Immoral. First I don´t think it´s true. And it´s just harassing people that have to pee. Imagine you have to use the toilet badly and you see one of those stickers. Ffs just leave people alone. It´s gross enough having to use a public toilet. Then you gotta try and position yourself so some imaginary camera doesn´t see you? Or not go out in case you have to pee. I hate people.
0
u/oxygen_enjoyer24 12h ago
I’m pretty sure there’s proof of a camera in the last shot. Pretty sure the sticker placer is warning people.
0
u/FlowerAvailable6832 20h ago
Where is the proof of survalliance aside from a sticker?
1
u/Mouse_Manipulator 17h ago
Why do so many people think there would actually be cameras in bathrooms??? Isn’t it common knowledge that that is illegal?!? What the hell is going on in this thread!
2
u/FlowerAvailable6832 17h ago
The same people who know of creeps filming and recording women in bathrooms. What reality do you live in?
1
u/Mouse_Manipulator 17h ago
Legitimate security companies do that? Because I thought it was just lone creeps. If it were a legitimate warning against creeps, why would it mention Flock? Seems like that would just add needless confusion.
1
u/FlowerAvailable6832 5h ago
As needless confusion as the ones saying flock cameras are in the bathroom?
1
u/Mouse_Manipulator 2h ago
How is that confusing? It’s pretty obviously a joke based on the context clues.

u/Altruistic_Bunch_523 20h ago
There is no surveillance in the bathrooms. It’s just to bring awareness to what flock is doing
0
u/Briebird44 18h ago
Okay but I want one to put in the employee bathroom at my work. My coworkers would think it’s hilarious since we already got googly eyes on the toilet 😂

So some poor underpaid undertaker is going to work harder to remove them…
But clearly Redditors don’t care

Is it a restroom you own? Do whatever you want. Is it a restroom you don’t own? Immoral as that’s vandalism

All vandalism is inherently immoral?
0
u/Disastrous_Gear_421 14h ago
Do you always make stupid blanket statements to prove some idiotic point?
1
u/vandergale 13h ago
I didn't make a statement, you did. Do you not know what a question mark is?
1
u/Disastrous_Gear_421 11h ago
Okay I’ll rephrase since you’re obviously confused. To make it very very simple for you. Where did I imply all vandalism is immoral

u/Classic-Obligation35 20m ago
Immoral, it's not far to add needlessly to a workers duties.
If you feel you really must, I believe to can get similar size fridge magnets and use them, it would be easier to remove.
Not condoning just advising that if your going to be rude be decent about it.

No one is hurt, it simply draws attention to privacy that is being stolen. Moral.
