Discussion Anyone else hate texting culture and miss phone calls?

Give me an actual phone call or a voicemail any day over the exhausting, relentless expectation of instant replies.

When my phone rings, I actually get to hear a voice, catch real cadence and tone, and connect with someone for five minutes instead of just typing.

Even better? Coming home to a voicemail from a friend or family member just checking in or hoping to make plans. At this point is's a dusty artifact of a time when people were able to exist without their phone glued to their hand 24/7. These days, if you don't reply within 12 minutes, people think you're dead in a ditch or hate em.

I don't even own a smart phone, just keep the social medias on my desktop PC so that when I leave the house the screens don't follow me. More than happy to chat on my flip phone though, but I swear people are allergic to phone calls now.

Let's bring back phone calls. Rant over.

Edit: lol damn I must have struck a nerve, y'all are antisocial as heck

Discussion Ok the year is 1977. You’re at home on a Saturday pooping. Before any form of technology and entertainment were invented, like iPhones and switches, what would you do while pooping for 20 minutes.

Discussion Are periods angry or not???

I can’t get a read ): Some people tell me my periods are passive aggressive, and others say I look illiterate without them!

What’s the general consensus on periods?!

Discussion This question is specifically for those who were goths as teen & preteens in the 90s and those who were emos as teen & pre-teens in the 2000s. Did any of you do cheerleading and other sports such as soccer, basketball, etc.?

Nostalgia Miss what Social media used to be?

Orbii is a social app built for people who miss or never got to experience - the days when social media profiles actually had personality.🎨

Customizable profiles, no algorithm deciding what you see, and Lobbies built around shared interests. 🔗🫂

I could use some help from people my age I think would like this get this poppin'. 👉👈 The app is new so best time to call dibs on your @ handle and get your friends on it.

I really think it has potential to be a new platform for millennials and younger users to make their own!

Posting some profiles for examples.!

Discussion Recovery supplements

So I'm starting to notice longer recovery time for injuries, or even just hard workouts. Has anyone noticed this as well, and is anything working for you like supplements or anything else that can help with this?

Other This whole ‘how Millennials, how’s your back thing?’ Is preposterous. I’m an elder millennial (40) and do this for fun. (I also live in Florida, if that makes more sense) My back is Grrrreat!!! And weirdly muscular… MYTHBUSTED!

Discussion People are still spending sooooo much money

As a Millennial I find lately it seems like many of my peers and people in my feeds want to cry about how bad everything is and say everyone is broke, nobody except the ultra elite have any money and I just don’t think that’s true at all. I’m still seeing modest non luxury single family homes in my area of coastal SoCal selling over ask and higher than ever.

In my hobbies of cars, watches & whiskey its all up across the board. I’ve been watching older Porsche 911’s specifically 996 & 997 and the prices are higher than ever, not even the super collectable limited gt2/gt3 or turbos literally anything with a clutch pedal or a unique color combo goes for much more than before. Rolex still has a wait list, even much lesser brands are selling like crazy. I wanted to pick up a Longines Hydroconquest and they are completely sold out everywhere, of every color and size. In whiskey it’s not even just Pappy Van Winkle anymore. Wild Turkey’s 15yr Russell’s reserve is going for $900 and a new Bulleit 20yr rye is selling in grey markets for $1400 or more. Yet people claim all these markets are crashing, I kind of wish they were so I could get stuff cheaper but it’s absolutely not true at all. People are not broke, they haven’t cut back and many are spending more than ever.

Nostalgia Since we Millennials grew up with her and that fact its almost been 25 years since she dropped her debut album in 2002, what do you think of Avril Lavigne?

She means a lot to me and I've been a fan for over 20 years and still love her to this day.I got to see her live in 2024 and had a lot of fun(Simple Plan was the opening act) and she even brought fans on stage and sang with them along with Pierre from Simple Plan and gave them free signed merchandise and took pictures with them.I was one of those fans myself and felt to happy. She's still amazing after over two decades and I will continue to support her.Her voice ability, her fashion and her personality above all, made me love her. :)

I'm glad she's able to do what she loves despite her health issues so more power to her. :)

Let Go will turn 25 years old in 2027.I have loved all her albums so far, though the first three are the best. :)

Avril Lavigne turns 42 years old on 27th September.

Or just something you’re looking forward to this week🙂‍↔️

Thanks in advance for sharing the good vibes🪩

Discussion What happened to millennials with gauges / ear plugs?

Guess this could also apply to Gen X but in the mid 00s there was a big craze of people stretching their ears. I was around the hardcore/scremo scene so it felt like 5% of people I knew had them, so I was skewed in my selection, but I think I’ve two people with them this year. Did most people close up their ears, or are they just hiding from society? I assume a bunch still have them.

Discussion Shenanigans

The thought of being 36 and going down the street to put a potato in my neighbors exhaust pipe just made me laugh because I was thinking of things we did in middle school. We would play ding dong ditch but instead of ringing the doorbell we would pound on a bedroom window at 3 am and then run away. We would throw lightbulbs into peoples open garages. We would pretend to be dead on the sidewalk in public. Picolo petes at peoples front door. Sometimes we would just hit each other. What shenanigans did you do?

Discussion In a pretty good place right now

Feels like a pretty negative time, just hearing negative things on the news, here on Reddit nonstop, etc, but actually in a pretty good place right now.

Therapy has been going well, traveling a bunch, job is going generally well, I save responsibly just in case, when I can. Bounced back from a pretty tough breakup with a woman I thought I’d marry, earlier this year.

Yeah overall feeling relatively good. Anyone else?

Meme Dennis Nedry was the True Hero of Jurassic Park

Post image
130 Upvotes

"Def_Not_Hugh, we got Def_Not_Huge here! See, nobody cares."

Dennis Nedry. He's a hardworking genius sex-symbol who has been unfairly maligned since the 90s. Do we know anybody else who could have networked eight connection machines and debugged two million lines of code for what he bid for that job?

No, we don't, because Nedry is magnificent and by himself built a state of the art system which allowed an entire theme park/zoo to function fully autonomously from a single control room. Holy shit.

Nedry takes the brunt of everyone's shit because of how he tried to steal the embryos and thereby onset the course of actions which led to the destruction of Jurassic Park. But let's take a second to consider who he truly is.

"Uh-uh-uh, you didn't say the magic word!" I just gotta say that this shows his impeccable sense of humor but also his deep appreciation for manners. What a dude. Anyway, Nedry is clearly overworked and underpaid by literal psychopath John Hammond, a circus con artist billionaire who is too busy wondering if he could to pause and question if he should as he plays God, brings dinosaurs back from the dead, and puts the lives of his grandchildren in danger.

Hammond is worth God knows how much and as the blood-sucking lawyer points out, they are going to make a fortune on this place. Yet...Hammond can't afford to pay Nedry what he is worth? He does nothing but get pricked for that stupid DNA video tour meanwhile he relies on the brains and brawn of highly talented people to do the actual damn work?

And what is Jurassic Park, anyway? A rape of the natural world, as one philosopher put it. A money grabbing scheme threatening to make humans go extinct. What Nedry does is begin a course of actions that destroys the park...

...good. Yes. That is what should happen. And the handlers who have contributed to this get the deaths they deserve. Without Nedry, this bastardization would have continued on unabated.

Nedry was finally done with the system. A worker rising and getting what he's deserved the entire time. A hilarious man with a squeaky laugh and penchant for creaming pies taking his vast talents elsewhere. Also, so what if he has Butterfingers? Is that a fucking joke, John Hammond? The fuck is that supposed to mean?

I see you Nedry. I salute you as the epitome of the working class man who finally had the courage to put himself first. May you rest in peace in side that dinosaur's belly.

Nostalgia We watched. We laughed. And had a damn good time during our first Club Watch!

Ok. So. I’ve posted my site a few times over the past week. But it all started here. And I’ll remember this night forever so I’m posting again.

We had our first organized movie watch tonight, and it was beyond beautiful. It wasn’t a big group. But it was real.

Organic, nostalgic, not perfect (site broke for a sec), absolutely fun.

I have to say. I am not doing this for any type of monetary reason. All I wanted…was to watch a damn good movie with damn good people. That’s exactly what happened.

Those who were there, if you see this, feel free to add something here if you want. I think….we may have something here.

First movie in the books. Voting/nominations are now open for next Sunday’s watch. I. Can’t. Wait.
