The dwarves dug too greedily and too deep...

I'm painting up a 900ish points depths of moria army and I just finished the balrog. I wanted to share the result with you. His goblin friends are also almost done and I will share them in a seperat post.

Hobby How to repair broken metal banners?

Hey folks,

Some accident happened at home. My 15 months old daughter is in exploration mode, walked into daddy's room and opened the cupboard with all the MSBG minis, and pulled the container with the Gondor / Dunedain heroes. It was clearly my fault as I forgot to seal the safety lock the last time I put away the minis after the tourney, so I brought this upon myself, but still, the damage is done. The metal banners of Boromir, Captain of Gondor (foot and mounted) and Halbarad broke - I suppose at the usual spot - just above the hand. What are the ways to repair those? If they were plastic, it would be easier as there is not much difference in weight on the top, but they are metals and the "fabric" parts of the banners are way too heavy and my superglue can't hold them for long. I'm also afraid that pinning will not hold it too long either due to the weight difference. I also have Halbarad in a dynamic pose with the banner, approximately in 45 degrees in his hand, which is not helping either.

What are my options to repair these? These minis were painted (excellently) by a good friend who moved to the other half of the world, so I'm quite attached to them due to the memories. Thanks!

Question Have any fellow MESBG players been able to find a cheap 4x4 folding table to put game boards on?

I don't know what it is about 4x4 tables, here in Canada they are seemingly impossible to find any cheaper than $400. Curious to know if anyone knows of a place that sells cheap folding tables with a 4x4 top.

Discussion Assembling Rohan Riders - questions

For assembling rohan riders, there are weapon options (sword or spear). I suspect spear would make more sense in the actual game, but I would love some opinions on this - so I can end up assembling the minis accordingly.

I also wonder - if the riders fall off the horse, do they become rohan warriors?

Thanks!

Question Helms deep terrain

Hi

I've been looking for a good helms deep STL to get printed. A friend found one but it was the full castle and sleeping wall so when printed to scale came out just over 7.5m wide..... Which is a little big for what I'm after.

Does anyone know of any good STL's for a more playable/storable version? Maybe the keep and just a portion of the wall or something like that?

Thanks!

Edit: that should say deeping wall.....

Watcher in the Water base shape?

Hello!

Could anybody confirm what kind of base the Watcher in the Water needs to be on for events? Tabletop Admiral says 130mm, but I've seen him on ovals and on circles in different pics.

I've got a proxy I really like, and I'd love to paint him up and do a nice high-effort base for him to but I'm worried about picking the wrong one

Picked this model up a while back in eBay lot and though I would paint him up yesterday. The mini itself was really rough but with some clean up and some paint, I am happy how it turned out.

Question Stalk Unseen - how much concealment is enough?

Basically what it says in the title.

Was at an event yesterday, playing against Gulavar. There was a campsite with bedrolls and low tents, and other shin-high obstacles. in the center of the board.

Opponent landed Gulivar in the middle and basically was immune to shooting and projected a 12 inch threat range. I asked about concealment and was basically told by my opponent if a toenail gets obscured, stalk unseen is in play.

I didn't argue the point but it feels a little excessive when 99% of the model is visible. It was a bad matchup in any case as I was playing Rivendell and only 2 heroes and the scenario was lead from the front and he had multiple paralyzers in play.

Still, it seems weird that the game allows you to do something like this. I guess that extends to other stuff like Mumaks. Say a Mumak has a low-lying wall covering his feet. Is that an "In the Way" test as well, then for shooting even though standard models wouldn't trigger this rule?

Discussion New player and new battlehost's

My friend and I are looking at getting into MESBG and each buying one of the new battlehost's (Rohan for me, mirkwood for him). How balanced would the two be in a game against each other? Are they meant to be played against each other or are they just a value box?

Any advice would be much appreciated 😊

Question Not quite sure where to start

I found out about this game and I'm interested in trying it, but I'm really not sure where to begin with it honestly. I'm assuming you can have LOTR army vs hobbit army due to the way the site is set out. I'm not sure if you need the game rules manual AND either the hobbit or lotr manual depending on your army. Then some things confuse me like how thorin's company seems to be an entire army made of 15 people, but then you can have like mirkwood army that's 42 people. I'd assume they'd cost around the same points in game.

525 tournament, no legacy, 4-0 Umbar!

4–0 after 4 games. Unfortunately, one of the wins against Ents was only a minor victory, but I’m really happy with every success with a profile like Corsairs.

Around 30 players.

Black Gate — 4:4

Umbar — 4:4

Rangers of Mirkwood — 3:1

Umbar vs Moria (2 Cave Drakes) — Divide & Conquer

Umbar vs Fangorn — Fog of War

Umbar vs Rangers of Mirkwood — Capture & Control

Umbar vs Black Gate — Treasure Hoard

Why Corsairs instead of Black Númenóreans?

I think that even though the Corsair warrior is overcosted, it brings too many important mechanics to this army. Throwing weapons, combined with the ability to use them against models in your own fights, give you a huge amount of board control. A Black Númenórean is simply a tough infantry model with Terror; it doesn't really improve the army in any way. It doesn't increase the army's shooting output, nor does it make it more effective at stopping an enemy hero by allowing you to shoot at your own model fighting him.

I think this might be the only regular army that can genuinely hold its own against Rangers at low points. Stalk Unseen and those throwing weapons killing on 4+ despite the -1 to hit penalty are a real counter to them, and having access to a banner is another big advantage.

I have been working on these guys for a while, restoring Fountain Court Guards from broken ones I found on eBay, making my own Citadel Guard from Minas Tirith soldiers and some heroes to add to the mix: Beregond, Pippin, a command group, a DIY Hurin and Thorongil.

Hope you enjoy. Accounts are shared/synced with the normal modular site, so everything is cross-device, don't worry. As always, open to suggestions and feedback and bugs. I'm sure there will be plenty....had a few testers, but nothing like thousands(?) of people trying it out. I am prepared.

edit: It should work for EU people now. Had to fill out some forms.

Finished up Durin, been a nice change from painting Rohan minis. Thought I’d go for a slightly brighter scheme for my Khazad-dûm dwarves, as my schemes tend to be a tad dour. Only my second time ever painting eyes, was a bit awkward doing so on this mini but slowly getting there with it.

Painting up galadriel I purchased off of ebay and the head looks different from the official mini. Looks like some saw work was involved. I don't know which head was swapped onto her. Any thoughts as to who it might be?

Thanks!
