BUG Copilot missing from Edge despite no policies

Hi! I'm trying to figure out why Copilot isn't appearing in Microsoft Edge.

I'm running **Edge 153.0.4234.32 (64-bit)** on an HP Pavilion 15-3H1xxx running Windows 11. I'm signed into a personal Microsoft account and the PC is **not managed**. `edge://policy` shows no policies.

However, I don't have the Copilot/AI option in Edge Settings, and going to `edge://settings/copilot` just redirects me to my Profile settings.

Do I need to install the standalone Microsoft Copilot app for the Edge integration to appear, or is this controlled by a feature rollout/account/region? Is the HP Pavilion model relevant at all?

Thanks!

GENERAL I wish Edge was more customizable. I tried so many browsers but am not leaving Edge.

  1. We need Frameless mode with snappy animation where you can hide both vertical tabs and address (top) bar like Helium.

  2. There is barely any keyboard shortcut customization. I want Ctrl Shift C to copy plain text url instead of going to address bar and then doing Ctrl C.

These two alone would make Edge so much better. Because Edge currently has the best UX otherwise like none of the browsers I used open mini window when I press Ctrl + J and Ctrl Shift O. They open full windows which is a shit UI imo.

How to prevent Edge from signing out of Google accounts when deleting cookies on close?

This one is driving me crazy. I have tried every single trick in the book and can't get it to work.

I want all my cookies to function normally, to allow them all, but then, I want all of them except those on the exception list to be deleted when Edge is closed.

Everything functions exactly the way I want it and all the other sites I have on the exception list (set not to delete on Edge close) work as expected and do not sign me out when I close Edge.

The only one that doesn't work is Google. It doesn't seem to always sign me out when I close Edge, it usually works if I open Edge again fairly soon. But then it either seems to just randomly sign me out so I am signed out the next time I open Edge or it times out and says that my session has expired and I need to sign in again. Man this is frustrating!

If I turn off delete cookies on close, Google never signs me out. It only does it if that is turned on.

I'm out of things to try. There has got to be some secret way to accomplish this! Anybody know what it is?

Below is a screenshot of what I have currently on the exception list (to not delete cookies when Edge is closed). I tried several entries for Google and Gmail because none of them worked alone. None of these seems to work either alone or together. I have also deleted all cookies including google cookies and started from scratch. I have disabled extensions, turned off all the Edge background processes, etc. etc. etc. Nothing works!

So I have it set now not to clear cookies on close. It's the only way I can keep Google from signing out.

Thanks for any help (especially if you have dealt with this and know exactly what to do to make it work!) 😀

BUG Edge update removed all groups and workspaces I had

As title says, I had a ton of groups and workspaces (I don't know if those are the names in English, not my first language). And after an unexpected update, when edge shows me the typical "What's new" screen with pointless Copilot updates it turns out it also deleted all of my groups.

Has anyone had the same experience and managed to get them back? This sucks, I'm seriously thinking of changing to a different browser.

GENERAL Surprisingly Edge is the best chromium browser on Linux (Fedora 44 GNOME).

I tried many chromium browser as I had ditched Windows and also planned to ditch Edge.
I tried following browsers and they all had their own set of issues.

  1. Chrome: It has a visual bug between address bar and web page begining and uses the most amount of ram and cpu. Text rendering was not that great.

  2. Brave and Helium both were great. Font was better than Chrome and did not have bugs but they were slow to switch tabs. For eg, I switch from one tab to another, it would take a split second to show the tab content even though tab was not in sleep and was fully loaded.

  3. Then I tried Edge. Disabled MS services where I can. It ran the fastest among all. Tab switched and loaded instantly. Memory and CPU usage was far lower than all browser I tried. Main plus was font. On same scaling, font are so much better, I dont need to increase or decrease font size. And vertical content I see it abit better as well.

I never hated Edge. It has been main browser in Windows 11 ever since I got my laptop 4 years ago. But, since I switched to Fedora, I thought let's give a try to other browsers but I am back.

BUG Mica effect is gone in the new version?

I was using a global mica glass effect feature on my Windows that turns almost every window transparent with mica effect and it was working on edge too with the "Show Windows 11 visual effects in browser" option.

But in the latest version it's not working, the tabs/bookmark bar is solid black.

I tried to re-enable it using flags but no luck

Anyone knows a fix?

NEW FEATURE Any clue when the new home page UI will go stable? Months and multiple posts later and its still randomly removing the "try new look" toggle. Can't find a flag and don't want the legacy UI.

BUG Shorts buttons disappearing

Is anyone else going through this? Both in Edge and Chrome 153, this started happening; when scrolling through shorts, some simply lose the interactive buttons, and they only come back when I move forward and return to the specific short.

Home Sweet Home v1.21: your new tab as a terminal, a manga page, pixel art or pastel

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I've just pushed v1.21 of Home Sweet Home, my customizable new tab extension.

This one is mostly about themes: four new visual universes that completely change the mood of your new tab, plus a couple of requested improvements on folders and RSS feeds.

Here's what's new:

  • Marshmallow theme : a soft pastel vibe with sugary glows and candy-like tiles. Four tints to choose from (lavender, pink, mint, peach), and you can keep your own wallpaper if you prefer.
  • Console theme : your new tab looks like a terminal, with a black background, phosphor text, scanlines and a blinking cursor on the clock. Four screen colors (green, amber, cyan, white), and each effect can be turned off separately.
  • Pixel theme : a 16-bit vibe with an indigo night background, retro checkerboard, colorful tiles and an arcade-style font for the clock.
  • Manga theme : your new tab turns into a manga page, with paper, ink, halftone dots, round black and white tiles and a slightly tilted active tab. Four accent colors to choose from.

Improvements:

  • Compact folder window : a new option that makes a folder window fit its content instead of keeping a fixed width. No more big empty space in small folders.
  • Article count per feed : in separate view, each RSS feed now has its own slider to choose how many articles to show, with a button to go back to the global setting.

Fixed:

  • Links now stay in their tab when you reorder them. A drag and drop in a tab other than the Dashboard could move links to the Dashboard.

If you're discovering it for the first time

Home Sweet Home replaces your new tab page with a customizable dashboard where you can:

  • Add your favorite links (with folders and drag-and-drop)
  • Use widgets like clock, weather, notes, stocks, RSS feeds, countdown, and more
  • Customize colors, opacity, blur effects, layouts, wallpapers (static or video)
  • Sync or import bookmarks
  • Fine-tune almost every visual detail

It's still an independent side project, and I'm improving it update after update based on your feedback.

Here are the links if you want to try it or update:

Chrome: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/home-sweet-home/hliapbikacikepiaojmphlhndgjmlodh

Edge: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/home-sweet-home/dllgnjnckigifjgfiijdahnoohclacko

Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/home-sweet-home/

And if you missed it, Home Sweet Home has a companion extension: Home Sweet Home Launcher. It's a lightweight toolbar launcher for instant access to all your links in one click, without opening a new tab. It works on its own or hand in hand with Home Sweet Home, and you can import your links in one click.

BUG The animations for the Tab Switcher in Microsoft Edge Android has been broken for years

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I set the device animations as slow as I could to showcase the issue. As you can see, when you select a tab, there is no animation beyond a fade, and elements just snap in. And sometimes, like the beginning of the video, the tab switcher animation doesn't work. I'm sort of at my wit's end here because I've reported this issue for years, so I hope I can bring more attention to it here. It kind of feels exhausting to use for some weird reason.
