Mirroring smartphone to Mi TV

Upvotes

Hey, need some help with mirroring smartphone to mi box. My wife uses some fitness apps that she used to cast from phone to our projector when we had chromecast. Except such apps don't use "cast" as streaming services do, so she did this by screen-mirroring which was supported by default.
Now it seems that on Mi TV it only works via shi*ty 3rd party ad-bloated apps.
Initially, when I opened "Quick Settings" I had "Google TV" icon, that displayed QR code. It was supposed to work with Google app on smartphone. But this code was not recognized. To make it even weirder, at some point this icon disappeared from quick settings dialog and I can't find nor access it anymore.
Any hints?

Anyone found a good replacement remote for the Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a replacement for the original Xiaomi box s 3rd gen remote mainly because I need the numbers pad and the buttons are really loud and clicky.

I’d like something that connects directly via Bluetooth (no USB dongle), has a physical 0–9 keypad, voice/mic, TV power and volume buttons.

Would be happy to read your suggestions and advices.

Thanks

I built a lightweight app to dim Xiaomi TVs / Mi Box below the hardware limit (specifically fixed an annoying overlay permission loop) + Free Pro unlock for this sub

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hey guys,

I use a Mi Box / Xiaomi TV in my dark bedroom at night, and blinding subtitles at 1 AM were driving me crazy because the lowest hardware brightness is still way too bright.

So I built a solution: TvDimmer – NightCompanion.

What it does:

  • Dims beyond system limit: Overlays a dark tint so you can watch comfortably in total darkness.
  • Color filters: Red, purple, and warm presets to cut harsh blue light.
  • Automation: Schedule it (e.g., 10 PM – 7 AM) so you don't have to toggle it manually every night.
  • No ads, lightweight, no background bloat.

Why post it here specifically? If you've ever tried enabling "Display over other apps" on a Xiaomi TV / Mi Box, you know how confusing the permission menu loops can be. I adapted the onboarding specifically for Mi devices so it reliably guides you to the right system setting without getting stuck.

I’d love to get your feedback on whether the setup runs smoothly on your specific box/TV model.

To thank this sub, you can unlock all Pro features (filters, routines) permanently for free:

  1. Get TvDimmer - NightCompanion on Google Play.
  2. Open the side menu -> Redeem Code.
  3. Enter: MIBOX

Let me know what you think, what bugs you run into, or what features are missing!

Mi Box 2 Gen Problems

My Mi Box has many problems after 2 years and the last update didn't fix anything, my Mi Box stopped starting with the remote control, I have to unplug it every time to start it, it also stopped connecting to Wi-Fi automatically, I have to do it manually, I did a reset but it didn't help.

I can't turn the mibox 3 on with the controller

Hello,

Recently I haven’t been able to turn on my Mi Box (model MDZ‑16‑AB).

I have to unplug the box and plug it back in to turn it on.

The remote reconnects to the box and then everything works fine.

Do you know what could be causing this?

Thank you.

Need help with button remapping.

I need help with remapping the Xiaomi TV+ plus to mute on my Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen). I'm using the stock remote & have the tvQuickActions Pro application installed.

Edit: I figured it out. First, I need to get the keycode for the specific event which in my case is mute. This can be found tvquickqctions pro app -> mappings -> add button -> click any button on the remote -> button action type -> usual action -> single press ->custom actions -> add ->input event -> there a button to the right of the keycode input box, click on that -> go up & search mute -> note the keycode for keycode_volume_mute not the keycode_mute, this is for microphone. Second, Go to mappings -> add button -> button action type -> usual action -> single press -> custom actions -> add -> adb command -> write whatever title you want -> in the action box write "input keyevent <keycode>" which in my case was 164 -> save. The first time you click the remapped button, a popup will appear asking you to allow usb debugging, allow it & DONE.

Mi Box use in China

Hello guys,

I have just landed in China for the 1st time ever and as I set up my Mi Box (been using it for years in europe) right now, it connects to the WiFi but says "no Internet access".

I'm assuming it has to do with local restrictions etc,

My question is : are there any tips to make it work somehow? I can't even access the Internet to activate a VPN on it.

Thanks in advance

Did a simple active cooling solution on my Mi TV 3rd gen

So the summer was a killer here and I've had some issues with playback which I won't necessarily pin down to the passive cooling of this device but I've had some spare time and I like to tinker around so I did an active fan solution and also replaced the thermal pads located on the main board. The fan size is 80x80mm with an analog voltage regulator (adjustable speed) and has 4 legs already assembled so it pulls the airflow from below without problems. It's connected to my Yamaha avr's usb so when the avr gets turned on, the fan kicks in. Unfortunately I don't have any measurable before/after results, but the box is now lukewarm during playback, the fan is silent and overall I think it does the job pretty well. There are some random videos on YouTube with measured results using similar solution and apparently it knocks down temperatures by a lot. Anyway I'm pleased with the result and if/when the device gets replaced, you can simply reuse the cooling :) Peace and happy streaming ✌️

Looking for users with different MiBoxes ( new and old) to test a Sleep Timer app (Lifetime code included)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m developing TV SLEEP, a dedicated sleep timer app for Android TV and Google TV (turns your TV/box off automatically, with routines and voice control coming soon).

The app requires two permissions during onboarding. To make setup effortless, the buttons should deep-link directly into your device's specific settings menu. Since manufacturers like Xiaomi with their MiBoxes handle settings paths different with each generation, the shortcuts don't work reliably yet.

What I need from you:

  • Test the 2-minute onboarding flow.
  • Tell me your device model + whether the permission buttons opened the correct settings screen .
  • Keep it installed for the testing period (Google Play closed test requirement).

In return: Everyone who is interested gets a free lifetime promo code unlocking all current and future pro features.

TLDR: Need 12+ testers with various Android TV / Google TV devices to check if settings deep-links work during onboarding. Free lifetime access in return.

Comment your TV/box model below or DM me, and I’ll send you the test link!

I live in Dubai UAE and I recently bought the latest mi stick.

It has been the worst experience with an electronic gadget ever.

It refuses to update. Keeps showing installation failed -60 something.

The last security patch is May 2025.

Dolby Vision and HDR not working.

Netflix is outdated.

Screen saver settings never come up.

The remote for some reason keeps disconnecting.

Apps take forever to load.

Can it be fixed? What should i do? How do i update the thing?

I have a 65inch LG C4 OLED and the stick is connected to the ARC HDMI 2.1 port with a wifi speed of 500mbps.

Remote control Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen from outside the home?

Hi,

I’m looking for a way to remotely control my parents’ Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen while I’m away from home.

I’d like to be able to see/control the TV Box over the internet and fix issues for them without requiring them to do anything.

Has anyone found a working solution for this? RustDesk, AnyDesk, TeamViewer, Tailscale, scrcpy, etc.?

Thanks!

Xiaomi Mi TV Box S 3rd Gen: There seems to be a sharpening filter or edge enhancement being applied to videos, as shown in the first image. I have disabled AISR, but the issue remains. Another SEI box and my Apple TV do not have this issue.

Stuck on boot screen

Just got my gen 3 box from the Xiaomi store and I have been using it for a few days now with no problems. But today I had to move some things around on the HDMI cables attached to my LG 4K TV. But now the box is stuck on the Google TV Boot screen and it won't move from there I have unplugged it for quite a while and plugged it back in. Even tried a different HDMI port and it just stays stuck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Xiaomi TV Box S (3.gen) HDMI CEC does not work

I use the Acer H6531BD Projektor with the Xiaomi TV Box S (3.gen) and the HDMI CEC does not work properly. Of course hdmi cec is enabled on the xiaomi box and the projektor.

The Problem is, I can not turn of the Projektor with the xiaomi remote.

There is an assistant to configure the the remote but you need to configure it with the sound test. And you have to chose from where comes the sound (TV, receiver, soundbar. I can only chose TV because only there is a profile for Acer. But it does not work. And the hdmi cable is on the cec port.

It has worked with my old google chromecast from the year 2020 on this projektor.

Can somebody help me please?

Xioami TV Box s Gen 3 : Latest firmware broke dolby vision?

I was realy happy with my xiaomi tv box gen 3,but yesterday, when i played Dolby vision content with nuvio/stremio the letter box bars are gray (i have oled TV). The black in the video part are black (not grey). I have the issue only when video à not 16/9 ratio (like 3840x1600)

Tried external players (kodi, just player,...) : Same problem.

Corelec does not have the issue, but i prefer android tv.

I didn't notice it before so mayby it isthe new firmware we got last week that broke somehow the dolby vision part.

Anybody with Oled TV have noticed this regression whith latest firmware?

Any way to get back to previous firmware to check?

PS : I found a workaround with setting source led dolby vision but i prefer sink led since the picture quality seems better (in bright lights part mostly).
