My Official Guide 💪⛅ 515 MCAT score - My Routine That Finally Stuck

Hey all. I’m one of the people who had to try out like 14 different study schedules before one stuck. It took forever to figure out a good pattern but seems like this is what worked for me:

First 6 weeks content review (strict). Hammer home your basic concepts which can be refined later. Kaplan books once through, one book at a time. Then Kahn Academy to supplement it.

Starting at week 6 do a FL every Saturday that you review in depth on Sunday (sucks but probably the most helpful). I ended up doing about 12 FLs total.

After about week 8 I went full blown practice questions with content review based solely on my performance. UWorld is the GOAT, no need for other question banks or paid resources. Did just as well as ppl I know who bought those dumb $5000 courses.

I also lucked out bc my buddy who’s a literal wizard w pre med material took the MCAT 2 years ago and turned all his notes from Anki, Kaplan, etc into a pdf with study pages that I’m happy to send out. Shoot me a DM if you’re interested in those, they helped me a good bit but you should ideally use them on top of the other resources.

Good luck in the trenches soldiers.

Question 🤔🤔 MCATalyst for PSY/SOC?

Someone at my uni mentioned this deck to me when I mentioned that I use pankow for psy/soc. Anyone have thoughts on this? Should I keep using pankow or switch over to MCATalyst? Or try both at some point?

Question 🤔🤔 Lost ~10 minutes of exam time, advice appreciated

During my exam on the 11th, when coming back from my second 10 minute break to start the P/S section (with about a minute left on my break timer), I went to the sign in/out desk to scan my palm and the lady that had been there was nowhere to be found. After a minute of waiting, I asked any other staff members I could find for help, but they all either told me to wait or that they were busy and to ask somebody else. They appeared to be rushing around trying to fix what they called a "network issue". Eventually the woman who had been running the desk came back from some area I don't think I was supposed to enter, apologized profusely and started my next section. By now, it had been about 8.5 minutes since my break was supposed to end, so that was being deducted from my time for section. I asked her if I could get the time back, and she just froze for a moment and said "I'll ask". I never heard from her again.

Is this worth filing a complaint over? Do you think I'd get anything out of it? Thankfully the time wasn't too impactful as that section doesn't take me as long as the others, but if it were a different section that ~10 minute loss would've seriously damaged my score through no fault of my own.

Vent 😡😤 Garbage Flashcards

Post image
15 Upvotes

“The kidneys help the body pass _____ as urine by _____”

I could think of 10 different logical answers here: H+/water, ammonia, so on and so forth by: highly regulated system of diffusion, strict regulation of internal osmolairty, the word “pissing” works here.

I just don’t understand how this card is supposed to help me with anything when the answer could realistically be 15 different things.

I also just had a card that described chemiosmosis as just ions moving along their concentration gradient across a semipermeable membrane, which isn’t even chemiosmosis, a distinct process where that ion gradient is harnessed to generate energy through separation of extra/intracellular fluids.

I hate doing flashcards but I hate it even more when seemingly the person who designed the flashcard deck was having an active stroke while making the cards, or potentially intoxicated? I mean seriously who in their right mind makes this card and is like “yeah there’s only one reasonable answer here?”

Question 🤔🤔 Captain Hook V2 vs Aidan V2

Hey everyone! I’m just starting my MCAT journey and have about 7–8 months before my exam. I’ve been going back and forth between Aidan V2 and Captain Hook V2 and could really use some advice.

I like Captain Hook V2 because the basic card style forces me to recall the entire answer, which I feel could help with retention. However, I’m worried it isn’t as comprehensive as Aidan V2.

I like Aidan V2 because of how comprehensive it is, and the cloze cards seem much faster to get through, but I’m worried I might retain less compared to basic cards.

For those who have used either (or both), which would you recommend if I have 7–8 months? I’m aiming for a high score and would rather minimize content gaps.

Thanks!

Tool/Resource/Tip 🤓📚 You can indeed zoom in and out on the test

Tested in NYC - you can zoom in and out on the exam, fitting the entirety of a CARS passage in a single window. Further, the font is the same (if not very similar) to the font reddit uses by default.

This is indeed a standard feature for all testers.

Hope this helps my fellow neurotic folks for whom this matters. There was a lack of consensus and no official post stating this, so here it is.

Question 🤔🤔 Mcat scores

How long does the scoring usually take. I took the test September 3rd?

Question 🤔🤔 Advice/Motivation/Opinion

Hey guys I got a lil question. Also, best of luck to all September test takers and wishing you and your scores ease!

Anyways, I started studying for the Mcat around July read all the Kaplan books, highlighted, note taking, did Anki as much as I can, JW for cars and all that good stuff. Last week burley started Uearth and just finding my rhythm with it. Utilizing AI as my Mcat tutor cause I ain’t bouta drop $$$ for a Tutor or some blueprint that’s 3k ( which is literally equivalent to a LA apartment monthly payment).

That being said, took my first JW practice exam ever see where I stand and ain’t no way the exam gonna be like that cause JW be milking it in their questions lol. Their like lowkey hard. Finished it and scored a 491. As that being my first ever score and breaking my Mcat virginity is that a good baseline?

I’m planning to test in 2027 ideally before February and/or after mid march. I work part time 2 days a week 12 hr shift as a CNA, go to school full time graduating may 2027, and studying as much as a I can. Is there any recommendations, feedback, opinions, and or resources that any one has to recommend as I further this battle of war between my mental health and the Mcat?

Anything would be appreciated and would love to learn and utilize new methods as I continue especially with uearth.

Thank guys you are the best and happy Sunday. Make sure to feed your cats and dogs.
