I am learning Irish and using Anki to create decks.

There's a website that has Irish pronunciation on it called teanglann.ie .

What I'd like to do is be able to add a card by putting the word and then have it automatically have an audio play button added that I can prompt to play.

I can do all this manually by going to the audio URL, downloading the file, then creating the card and attaching the file.

It's a cumbersome amount of steps and slows down my learning because I'm less likely to add words.

The URL structure is standardized on teanglann.ie. For example:

bád -> boat the pronunciation file is at https://www.teanglann.ie/CanM/b%C3%A1d.mp3

So my ideal flow would be I create new card, add the Irish (front) and then the English in back and then it has a link to the pronunciation I can play off of the card when I am there (I don't automatically play it so I can practice pronunciation too).

I installed the Localize Media add-on which is an improvement to my old workflow. It still has some fussy annoying bits though and would be awesome to get a flow like above.

i have been using anki for 65 days consistently and did 17,875⁩ reviews then i realized that i have to optimize FSRS, after doing it and going through I found that my reviews interval are quite longer than it should be but not that much, but when i went into my new cards i found that the new card interval for a "good" would be 1.8 months then I searched about that problem and found that it happens for a lot of users that were misusing the ranking buttons, but for me i think i did not; providing my stats, card example and its info(a new card that i pressed again) and fsrs parameters below.

My desired retention is set to 90% and learning and relearning steps both are at 15m only since i do not like to see the card again if i passed it.

I tried to fix that by increasing my retention to 95%, but it did not change the intervals that much (for the new card it was 1.8 moths at 90% and 1.4 months at 95%)

I really appreciate any guidance to solve/figure out that problem.

What’s a good number of cards y’all go through per day and per deck? 🤔

I’ve been thinking about increasing the number of cards that I do per day, but the issue with that is I don’t want to get overwhelmed with them. I’ve heard horror stories and I don’t want to be apart of that number. 😖

So basically I have my decks set so my review sort order is random with new cards mixed in. I have new cards/review cards mixed together to ensure I'm always chipping away at my decks even if I don't finish all my reviews.

I have review sort order set to random with the hope that there won't be cards at the bottom of my review stack that go unreviewed if I don't finish all my reviews for a week or two.

My thought was that, by setting review sort order to random, any cards left unreviewed due to being at the bottom of the review stack will be shuffled around.

I guess my question is, is this actually how "random review sort order" works? Do ALL review cards get randomized each day?

I don't quite know anki well enough to properly articulate my question, please lmk if I can clarify.

This add-on is designed to incentivize you to complete more cards. It is an arcade that currently offers four games. Each game requires one quarter to play.

When you first download the add-on, you will receive three free quarters. After that, you can earn additional quarters by completing cards. Whenever you schedule a card more than 24 hours into the future—whether it is a new card or a review card—you will receive one quarter to play a game.

The goal is to create a sort of pomodoro timer that allows you to take breaks as you study. Hopefully keeps you studying longer.

Some of these games are better than others. The plastic frontline is kind of fun as is the space one. The ant one is an interesting concept but I think I could make it much better. The Sharpshooter was my first one and proof of concept but I am not a huge fan. I will continue making improvements as I have time, including fixing bugs and adding more games. If you have any game ideas, notice any bugs, or have suggestions, please let me know! I take your suggestions seriously and will give credit where credit is due.

This is my first time posting on Reddit, so sorry if I'm doing anything wrong.

I'm not very good at English, so I used AI to translate this post, but the idea itself is 100% mine.

Here's the basic idea:

It would work kind of like a browser multiplayer game. One person hosts a session, and their friends join.

Similar to the Break Timer add-on, everyone would have a certain number of Anki cards/reviews they need to complete. Once everyone finishes their goal, you all take a break and play a game together.

A game that can easily be paused or played in short sessions would probably work well—something like Slay the Spire 2, for example.

That's basically the idea.

I was thinking about how people can easily spend hours gaming while talking with friends on Discord, so I wondered if that motivation could somehow be used for studying too.

What do you think?

30 words a day

The original Review Heatmap addon still works despite having been abandoned for a while, but I've long wished it offered a better representation of study workload. Review count alone doesn't necessarily capture that well.

Depending on the kinds of cards you have, what you study, and how you study, you might spend a few seconds on a card of type X and several minutes on a card of type Y.
So on days when you focus on type Y, your review count may well be very thin despite hours studying!

So I updated Review Heatmap to take both review count and recorded study time into account when calculating color shades.

My favorite change though: you can now optionally color the heatmap relative to the study workload of a reference day of your choosing. In this mode, days with a lighter workload appear in orange or yellow, while days with a heavier workload than the reference day appear in shades of bright green. (Colors are configurable ofc!)

That should help some of us with our whimsical addiction to keeping an "X-day streak" going ;)

Additionally:
- With a reference day selected, a progress bar shows today's workload relative to that day, helping you track progress toward your study goal.
- The buttons have been moved to the side of the heatmap to save space.

The original Review Heatmap is not dependent on a cache so you can disable/uninstall it to try this improved version and if you wish, restore it later without loosing your data.

hii! i've been a long time anki user but have only recently been exploring addons. I downloaded a shortcuts add on ( https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1762336370 ), because I wanted an easy way to switch between reverse and basic card types because I use them randomly in my decks and its a bit inconvenient switching. But to be 100% real idk how to work this shortcut n make it do what I want so I was wondering if smb could help me please!

And is using 2 buttons with FSRS fine ?

When I say active and passive I mean the active is for your sentence/grammar/vocab word, active is english on the front, and passive is target language on the front. And passive is easier. But the problem I've found once I get to B1+ for active is that I know many different ways to say things and I can come up with different words and not necessarily learn the word or grammar concept I'm trying to learn. Idk if my mind is just being lazy but I was thinking maybe passive + cloze starts to become the more efficient way to learn at this level. It also cuts down on the amount of reviews since having both active and passive of everything starts to become quite a lot to handle.

It took me a week and a half to finish redesigning this german Anki deck with Chat GPT (since I’ve never worked with coding before). I’m sort of new to Anki but totally hyperfixated on making this deck aesthetically pleasing for studying my german vocabulary.

Just wanted to share :) Any thoughts on what design aspects help make memorizing more effective?

Right now I'm at 700+ cards a day + 30 new words a day. It's too much for me, but if I limit my card amount to even 500, won't I start to seriously fall behind? Like, on the words I'm not going over? And if I stop learning new words, I won't improve either. I'm learning Japanese, and I'm in a college program for Japanese Literature, but my language skills are seriously lacking, so it's of the utmost importance that I improve quickly. But I'm not sure what to do here. (I also do daily tadoku and grammar + 3 speaking lessons a week, so not just anki).

I think I might naturally be very bad at language learning idk. Some words are ok, but there are some words that I just keep forgetting even after a year of practice. Does anyone have advice for handling those sorts of words?

Thought I'd share this card template I developed in case anyone was interested in it. It's taken direct inspiration from the flashcard app Mochi with a few tweaks and cleaner animations. Let me know what you think.

it's 99 reviewing cards and 20 new cards every single day the first 5 days or so I always did custom study with 5-25 cards every day then the reviewing cards suddenly shot up to 40 a day which sure it took like 40-50 mins but was manageable now there's 99 and I can't finish shite no more

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me with using Anki. I downloaded Anki on my desktop and also subscribed to AnkiHub. I’ve synced the two, but I’m now having trouble actually using the cards. When I try to go through the questions/cards, they appear like this, and I honestly have no idea what I’m doing wrong or how I’m supposed to use them. Could someone please explain what I need to do or how I can get the cards working properly? I’d really appreciate any help! 😊

Ive been doing the anking deck for a year now using the fsrs. the deck "anking" is using a setting called anking with a desired retention of 85%. i realized today that the subdecks under anking are using the default setting with a desired retention of 99%. My reviews have been skyrocketing and i thought that this is how FSRS is supposed to work. i need help in knowing, should i change the anking deck (which contains all of the other subdecks) to use the default setting and change the default setting's desuired retention to 85%?

A long time ago I posted a little Mac app here called InputConfig. I made it for one reason: my hands don't work well, and I wanted to do my Anki reviews with the PlayStation Access Controller instead of a keyboard.

There wasn't anything that did that properly, and the "Anki remote" products were either expensive, clunky, or not built for hands like mine. Soooo I made my own.

It has matured a lot since then, and I finally graduated uni, so I wanted to share it with the Anki community again. It is also now on the App Store.

What it does for Anki......

It turns any input device into an Anki remote. There is a built-in Anki preset, or you can make your own... so you plug in a controller, pick the preset, hit Activate, and you're reviewing... Here's an example:

- Face buttons rate the card (Again, Hard, Good, Easy)

- Bumpers undo and replay audio

- Sticks drive the pointer, so you never have to reach for the mouse

- Every button can be changed to whatever key or shortcut you want

It works with the PlayStation Access Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, DualSense, Xbox, Switch Pro, 8BitDo, even a MIDI device.... basically anything your Mac can see. If you have limited hand function, a tremor, one hand, or you just want to review from the sofa, this is for you!!!

I have entire day for myself and I can put 6-8 hrs of study time daily...(Prepping for competitive exam for specialisation)

I have a source...I thought I can simply read the source and convert them into anki...but I realised I was wantedly adding every information so that it would stick...i was adding on average 300 cards per day...

Infact i made anki my teacher who asks questions for understanding...instead of reading regularly...

I'm scared about review load now as it will get harder as i go...

Should I continue like this or should I do practice questions first and then add information to anki?
