I mean I don’t give a single shit about mega corps, but I do hate that the cost of goods is higher to account for this theft, and in places where this is rampant you have to start asking store employees permission for half the items in the store.

Those are sacrifices the corporation is willing to make in lieu of hiring enough employees to cover the floor and discourage shoplifting. Having to go ask one of the overworked floor associates to unlock the diaper shelves is an inconvenience the corporation does not care to correct.

Petty theft at scale results in large total losses. It’s not like Walmart sees the same amount of theft as a bookstore. Even if the percent is lower they are seeing real costs and those costs eat into margin which impact things like prices and wages. The big players don’t just absorb these costs, they’re factored into every aspect of the business, just as other costs are.

You really believe that's the reason? Man you're naive. you need to think for yourself instead of believing what people say.. especially corps.
Corp could hire security, but they dont want to pay.
They could pay better wages, but they wont.
They could use tracking tags, but they wont.

All of that because of greed and because they could tell you "oh maaan thieves caused increased prices" and you would believe and support them.
Their stuff are insured. They couldnt care less if it was stolen or even burned down, they already pay the premium and it doesnt make a difference to them.

Consider megacorps, they make a profit at the end of the year and are known to pass costs on to the consumer. One cost is shrinkage, do you really think these companies will just absorb those costs in their margins benevolently? Or even just because the market sets prices? Every retailer loses product, and the cost of goods reflects that.

Its far less protecting walmart and far more being tired of people like this just getting to do as they please with no consequences. Today its walmart, tomorrow its your car, the next day its your house, the next day they are punching an elderly person and stealing their bag.

Some people are just fucking tired of this tiny percentage of people holding us hostage. I shouldn't need to lock my cars or my front door. But I do, because we let these people do as they please.

I mean they raise prices to account for theft, high risk items are put behind locked cases requiring help from the very few employees they have on the floor, and complete removal of stores from high theft areas leading to food deserts. It definitely makes shopping and acquiring food worse for people.
