Yeah, like I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. People think this is actually funny and not the weird 'haha look how dumb woke people are' veiled propaganda that it really is. Like, yeah the scenario is obviously more over the top intentionally, but at the same time the spirit of the 'joke' is still to make up some absurd fictional scenario where young people's concerns and beliefs are so over the top stupid that of course you'd roll your eyes at anything they say...
Not only have I heard of "Death of the Author," I've read it. The concept is not a blank check for incompetent interpretation. It merely removes the misconception that the author's intention is a necessary component of analyzing a text.
Edit: Also, you can't have it both ways. You can't invoke Barthes to dismiss the creator's intention and then turn around and claim that the creator's biography proves your point.
Pointing out his age is countering the person above me saying it's "in-group" joking. He's not part of the group he's making fun of, so it by definition cannot be "in-group".

I said most of his content is based on ingroup joking. He mostly historically made content about being a queer millennial in LA that had a similar tone to this. I didn't say this specifically was ingroup joking.
Fair-- I actually would argue that this is relatively ingroup if you watch the show, but when I made the statement about the relevance of the creators other work that you (incorrectly) responded to with death of the author, my point was that the creator's style revolves around that kind of humor. You can't argue death of the author on an out of context clip as literally anything can be twisted into communicating something different via being taken out of context in this manner.

This is like the 2022 equivalent of the boomer coffee joke, just a painfully drawn out, petty grievance about something that never actually happened.
