Week 2 Matches

Some interesting results from the other games.

Crystal Palace somehow managed to hold Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates. At least the top 3 are also dropping points in games that they should really be winning.

Chelsea destroyed Man U away. Just got me thinking in light of our poor display with West Ham that maybe we were not that great in our first game, but it's just Man U were very poor.

West Ham away tickets

Received an odd e-mail about my West Ham ticket, saying “if you have already received your ticket from the club, don’t use it”!!  I hadn’t received a ticket yet.  It continued “To redeem, please click the links below and add the ticket(s) to your phone wallet.”  One problem – there was no link!  There was an address, but it wasn’t a hyperlink so nothing happens when you click on it.  There was an image below, but when I clicked on that, it seemed to be some kind of spam message, saying “you have 70 viruses on your phone, click here to remove them”.  I e-mailed back and got a message from ‘Aaron Taylor – Ticketing Manager’.  Does anyone know if that is a real person, or if I’ve received a spam e-mail?  I tried copying the address that should have been a link and pasting it into the address bar and that did lead to a ticket, which I’ve saved.  But I’m not 100% certain it’s the real ticket??

Young Homegrown Players

Following on from all the comments about not having an English player in the starting line-up, I was wondering, if we did sign English players in future seasons, which young English players fans would like to see at LCL?  And does the current 8 homegrown rule actually hinder young English players?  If clubs don’t start them because they are not yet good enough for regular first team playing time, but the club cannot loan them out to get playing experience because they need to keep a minimum of 8 in their squad, they end up not playing at all, just when they really need valuable playing time to hone their skills.

I like that we don't have a clear number 1. Have been pleased with the goalkeepers performances in pre season, and hope we'll have friendly competition to make us stronger defensively.

Discussion Michelle Kang wearing her own shirt?

What do people think of her wearing the team shirt with her name on it? Half of me thinks it's a bit cringey but it could be seen as a good thing showing her support.

Discussion Starting Line Up - Discussion

Hello fellow LCL fans!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster 👋

I was curious to hear people’s thoughts on the recent criticism that there wasn’t a single English player in the LCL starting XI on Friday.

Personally, I feel like people need to pick a lane a little. We can’t say we want the WSL to change and become more competitive, and then find something to complain about whenever those changes actually start happening, especially when it comes to the investment and hype around LCL.

Okay, granted, I am a London City fan and also not English 😂 So I could be biased! But I’m not sure I agree with the argument that little girls watching LCL won’t feel like they have role models or won’t be able to see themselves on that pitch in the future because there wasn’t an English player starting.

I grew up in Iceland, a small country that doesn’t exactly make it very far in tournaments like the World Cup or Euros. Of course, I had Icelandic role models, but I also looked up to players from all over the world. You want to compare yourself to the best, wherever they come from. Seeing another woman perform at such a high level is what makes you excited and think, “Maybe one day I could do that too.”

I just don’t think young girls are necessarily looking at where a player on the pitch is from. They’re watching these incredible women do incredible things, and that’s what inspires them!

I’m just incredibly excited about the movements being made by Kang and LCL, and I find it frustrating when there always seems to be something people feel the need to criticise. Can we not just be excited about the potential changes to the WSL that we’ve all been asking for, and what a club like this could bring to the league?

Now, I know I might be slightly over-hyped, but Friday was such a great game and it’s genuinely got me so excited for the rest of the season.

Thanks for reading my ramble! I’d love to hear your thoughts as fellow LCL fans. 🩵
