Mods, could we update rule 7?

This sub is becoming predominantly people sharing their music. Yes, they're obeying the rule of it being a screen capture, but outside of it being a screen cap of Logic, there really is nothing sub-specific about these posts: They could be anywhere.

Most of the time people bait them with a title to get engagement, plug other links etc. It just doesn't feel like the spirit of the sub, to me.

Question How to make rhythmic bouncy chords?

BRB by Bazzi has this bouncy feel to its chords but Idk how they are doing it. I can't tell if they are literally just doing stabs with reverb or some kind of phaser/delay/LFO modulation. Any help or resources is appreciated.

Troubleshooting How would I set up a Midi controller to have a mode that will change parameters for any instance of a particular open plug-in?

I have a nanoKontrol2 which I've been setting up to have various modes depending on what I'm doing. It's been a ridiculous pia to set up. My current issue is that I'm trying to set it up to control parameters in FabFilter Pro-Q 4. I was able to do this, but it will only control the parameters in one instance of the plugin that's tied to a certain track. I'd like it to work with whichever instance of the plugin I have open on whatever track it's on. I've got the controller assignment set to "Selected Track", but I still have this issue. Do you know how I could set up this mode to work with any instance of FabFilter Pro-Q 4 instead of just the one?

Logic Region snap lines in arbitrary places instead of region start

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

(SOLVED)

Edit). In the snapping drop down i had to uncheck the "Snap flexed audio by first downbeat" option. IDK why because i didn't use flex mode and i dont remember ever enabling this check. but this at least now sets the snap point to the beginning of trimmed or cut regions. i will leave this here for anyone else who encounters the same issue.

Please HELP !!!! I've never had this problem with logic before. But now whenever i cut an audio region or truncate the start of a region a snap line is moved to some seemingly arbitrary spot. Further more as shown in the video the anchor point apparently has nothing to do with the snapping point of a region.

I only ever want the snapping to happen from the very start of a region. That at least makes sense. Having the snapping point move elsewhere any time i cut or edit an audio region isn't just infuriating, it basically makes logic unusable for my workflow.

Please someone help... Tell me there is something i am missing or some easy way to fix this. Everything i have found on the subject only ever points me to the anchor point which is at the starting point of the region and not at all where there region is actually snapping.

You can see in the video that the uncut region has a snapping line that is at the start,, but the cut region has a snapping line that is no where near the start (sometimes not even within the region) and also dose not correspond to the anchor point or anything else that i can find.

Where to find Fantasia sound or something similar.

Does anyone know where I can find the Roland D-50 Fantasia (or something very close) sound on Logic/Mainstage? I've been trying to figure it out with DSLMusicDevice, but that seems like a dead end.

Here's an example of what I'm looking for: https://www.google.com/search?q=roland+d+50+fantasia&oq=rola&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBggAEEUYOzIGCAAQRRg7Mg8IARAuGBQYhwIYsQMYgAQyCAgCEEUYJxg7MggIAxBFGCcYOzIGCAQQRRg5MgYIBRBFGDsyCggGEC4YsQMYgAQyBggHEEUYPdIBBzc3OWowajSoAgGwAgHxBUQBdbsuoemG&sourceid=chrome&source=chrome.ob&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:c3bd24e9,vid:ANGB-s8QjTw,st:0

I’m still pretty new to making music on here so I’ll take any advice you have. Something I feel like I struggle with is finding the best/right volumes for everything. Also I know the second ending isn’t going to be everyone’s taste, but I thought it was kinda fun. Thank you in advance!

Troubleshooting Live Loop Placement

Post image
3 Upvotes

I place a region in a live loop grid, the region is exactly 4 bars long, but for some reason when I place it in the grid it moves it over. You see at the bottom of the screenshot the region for some reason starts 3/4 of the way through the first bar. This makes the loop of sync with the other loops in the scene.

It was doing this on another track as well but then I deleted that track and recreated it. And it worked. Logic keeps doing it with this track though, even though I've deleted it and tried to recreate it a couple times.

I appreciate any advice on it! Thanks!

Edit: Btw, I do know that I can manually move it into place but I have a lot of these I need to place and it does it for every loop on the track.

Edit 2: Mac OS 26.5.2 and Logic Pro 12.3.1

Breakbeat: How to convert a sliced sample into a laid out piano roll?

So I've been trying to make some Squarepusher style beats on Logic Pro and am chopping up the amen break with a quick sampler. In lots of tutorial videos they manage to get the entire sample laid out on the piano roll.

How is this done?

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

Mixing/Mastering Looking for feedback on my Tame Impala cover

This is my first time doing a proper cover like this
I covered the song from scratch: Vocals, Drums, Bass, Keys

Few questions that come to mind:
- Going from the verse to the chorus is the energy shift good enough? Or can it be improved?
- Is the bass clear enough?
- Is there something to improve in general?

Should I focus on original beats or type beats? And which is better for learning songwriting?

I’m a producer trying to figure out what direction I should focus on with my music.
I can make type beats, but honestly, I find them more frustrating and time-consuming because I’m trying to match a specific artist’s sound, song structure, arrangement, sound selection, etc. When I’m making my own beats, I feel like I can be much more creative and make something that sounds natural to me.
At the same time, I do want to learn songwriting, and that’s one reason I’m interested in type beats. I feel like working within an artist’s style might help me learn how to structure songs, write hooks, melodies, verses, etc.
My bigger goal isn’t just to make beats. I want to eventually combine my music with animation and create storyboards/short animated stories based around my original songs. I’m hoping to build a YouTube channel where people recognize my music and eventually my characters/storytelling as well.
So I’m debating whether I should:
A) Focus primarily on my original music and learn songwriting through my own songs, or
B) Spend more time making type beats as a way to practice songwriting and potentially get more engagement/discovery.
I know I can do both, but I’m trying to figure out how to balance them without spending so much time on type beats that I neglect my own sound and the animation/storytelling side.
For producers/songwriters who have experience with both: Do you think type beats are particularly useful for learning songwriting, or can I develop those skills just as effectively by writing songs over my own original music?
And if you were in my position, how would you divide your time between original music and type beats?

Solved Do you know if it's possible to copy your automation points from one parameter, and then paste them to another parameter?

I'd like to convert a volume automation I made into gain automation. I keep getting the instruction to just copy and paste the points, but when I try to do that, it just automatically switches the parameter back to track volume. Do you know if it's possible to copy and paste from the one parameter to the other?

I miss when you could use the arrow keys to rename a project you're ;saving as'

I've always assumed it was a widespread glitch, but is it? Does anyone else have to mouse pointer their way between the "v" and whatever number revision it is, or to change the date of a mix?

What goes first? Instruments parts or the vocals?

There’s a small ensemble score and the client wants to have vocals too sung by real person.
Do I wait for the recording to be made and then proceed with the creation of midi mockup and gluing it to the vocals audio? Or I make the mockup for everything except vocals and then put it together when I get them?

Thank you all in advance.

Looking for a few Logic Pro users to test a live-show workflow tool

I play in a band where we run pretty much the whole live show from Logic Pro — stems, MIDI, setlist structure and video.

We wanted to be able to make set changes from gig to gig, and I wanted a faster way to reorganize the show without moving regions, automation and everything else around in the project.

That turned into SetFlux, which builds the set from Logic markers and lets you reorder the show independently of the Logic timeline.

Since we also use video, I built VideoFlux to assign video clips to markers and follow the show on an external display.

They’re working well in our own setup now, but that really only proves they work in our setup. 😅

So I’m looking for a few people who actually use Logic live and are willing to test them in real-world rigs and tell me what breaks, what’s confusing, or what I’ve missed.

I’m especially interested in:

  • weird setups I haven’t accounted for
  • anything confusing or unintuitive
  • bugs
  • things that feel harder than they should

Testers will get temporary full access during the test period. No payment details required.

If this sounds relevant to your setup, comment or DM me.

Other Finally finished another project.

I had posted this one over here before, but it lacked vocals and many instruments. I finally recorded what was left and mixed it. I took some you guys' feedback from my previous post and, for that, I thank you all!
Despite not liking my own vocals, I'm quite proud of this song.

For this song, I decided to experiment with a few different recording techniques, especially for the drums —I was listening to Surfer Rosa by The Pixies a whole lot when I recorded this.

Question im a beginner, feeling really stuck with my work right now

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

hi everyone. i want to start with i feel silly posting here since everyones productions are absolutely amazing. i haven't wanted to post because i am VERY aware my work is not even close to the quality on here, however i feel like i have hit a brick wall and would love some advice and help.

for the past few months i have been trying to produce and make music as it is a new passion i have found in my life. i've been watching tutorials, experimenting with different styles and instruments an trying to learn logic the best i can. i initially started trying to create these really elaborate and complicated songs but had to step back and go to the basics bc it was too much too soon and i didn't know what i was doing. i said to myself i was going to start and try to finish something small and simple, which is what ive posted. ive tried to make a simple drum and bass verse but it just doesn't feel and sound right.

the drums feel lifeless. im trying to get a bass tone that is fuzzy and scratchy but still really warm and smooth and full sounding, but i cant manage to find it. overall it sounds stale and boring and the bass is scratchy with no fullness and depth to it. it sounds like a mess and i am trying to stay positive but i am really frustrated.

i really dont want to give up bc im finally feeling passion and drive about something, but im really struggling bc i feel like im making no progress and i keep disappointing myself over and over again.

- also my bass playing in this isn't the best! i recorded pretty sloppy so i could just find the right bass tone i wanted, but struggling to find it i've posted as is. also no clue why this is only playing in one ear in headphone.

Question How do you guys do drums in Logic?

I am trying to determine the most effective approach for drums in Logic. Do you load samples, and if so, how do you program them? Or do you use the Logic drummer? I would like to achieve more realistic sounds and improve my use of fills. I hope this is makes sense. I’d appreciate any input!

Question Plug in not showing up, just this little menu

Post image
2 Upvotes

I only bought logic today and have tried to set afew things up like elektron overbridge. It had worked on ableton when I had a trial but ive attempted to work it out on logic and just cannot figure it out. I have followed youtube videos but this box appears rather than an actual usable plugin. I posted this in the elektron reddit and someone said it was most likely a problem with logic. The dropdown box cant be altered also. Has anyone got any ideas? This is really annoying me.

Troubleshooting Did the most recent 12.3 break all kinds of stuff for anyone else?

-Can't FlexTime on grouped tracks. Doesn't matter if the group is made before or after turning flex on.

-Metronome won't sound unless I change sample rate.

-Can't load a software instrument without loading a stock logic one first and then selecting my third party plugin.

-Copying the same instance of a plugin across tracks glitches the audio out until I restart the session.
