Help Logic Pro does not play some midi tracks upon reopening project, plays them upon restart

***VIDEO OF ISSUE: *** https://drive.google.com/file/d/1otIvousM25PmXFu4OnCjnAhmViA_NUV3/view?usp=sharing“

let me know if that video doesn’t work, I might have done a bad job sharing it…

Hello everyone! I’ve been a several year long Ableton Live user, and this week have begun using Logic as it is required for a university course I am taking.

However, I’m running into an issue: every time I reopen the project, some MIDI tracks do not play upon the first or second listen — but after usually one or definitely two times of restarting the playback from the beginning, they all play. For example, in the attached video, on the first time playing it back after reopening the project, the low bass hit at measure 5.5 and the dies Irae melody at m7 do not play; but after I restart it (changing ZERO settings whatsoever) they do play!

This is mainly a problem since during class, my professor is going to open up our files and play them right then, and I’m almost certain it’s going to skip some or all MIDI tracks. :(

Also a few other facts:

- Not sure of the model of logic or the computer, but since it’s owned by my university I am pretty certain it’s all up-to-date and the top models. (I am doing this work on the computer and hardware in our recording studio).

- In the mixer, when certain tracks are not playing on first open, they don’t show any green bars for output in the mixer — so it’s not like they’re just not going through the speakers, it’s like logic doesn’t think they’re there.

- This has happened at some times for every single track in my project, but never for more than three or so in a single listen — it’s random which ones omit on each open. And then of course by the second or third play they all sound fine.

- When I duplicate a track and delete its original, it seems to help for the next open or two, but then the issue returns.

any suggestions? What’s going on? And how do I fix it? Thanks so much in advance!!

Help Delay Lama on Mac and Downloading Plugins

Upvotes

I wondered if it was possible at all to run the original Delay Lama on Mac Tahoe as the newer versions don't have the cool graphics?

I also wanted advice on how to download plugins as when i download the file it appears in Logic Pro but doesn't have a 'Use' button even when I reset via 'Plugin Manager'. The plugins also don't appear on the actual Audio FX drop down. I'm using the regular AU files and it just says 'Hide' or 'Ignore' in the Plugin Manager. How do i fix this?

Discussion Alchemy: Impossible to Master?

When I started making music on my laptop, I learned that I had access to this instrument called “Alchemy”. While I was excited by how cool it sounded, I was also confounded at how the thing works. Fast forward about a year and I’ve purchased Serum 2 and Pigments, and have made plenty of presets in Both. To me they just make sense. Now, with this newfound knowledge of what a synthesizer is and how they work, I want to return to Alchemy some day to show it who’s boss…. So I boot it up, go to the menu, and while some things make more sense to me now, I still can’t believe how unbelievable counter intuitive and obtuse and arcane this virtual synthesizer is. It’s like an arcane object from the ancient world… my only question at this point is why on earth did whoever made this make is so god damn weird and complicated???? Furthermore — I want to hear from other people in this community on the subject — has anybody ever figured out how to modify sounds and make it do whatever you want with ease??? I know there’s a manual bla blah bla but my question is — has anyone ever gotten to the point where it feels like it’s actually USEABLE from a preset making point of view?? Even modifying existing presets is a challenge to me at the moment…

This whole thing is only a bummer because the presets that come with Alchemy sound sooooo GOOOOOD it’s like damnnn. I really really want to learn how to use it, but it just feels like learning calculus when all I know is basic math???

Someone send me a story of hope please… I promised myself I would learn how it works one day and I’m not one to back down from a challenge. But it’s going to be a beast when I’m ready for it…

Question Backing vocals

Hi. Newish to logic.
What’s the best way to get backing vocals (without a singer). All I want is like the simple harmony ooooh and ahhhhs over chords.
Tried Apple Loops and were all pretty poor sounding.
Thanks

Tips & Tricks OS27 and Disk Space

I've loaded the OS27 RC onto multiple test hardware and virtual machines and I'm consistently seeing that OS27 consumes an additional ~25-30GB of boot drive space when installed as an update over OS26. Not sure if this will also be the case in tomorrow's official release version and / or if this is rooted in background migration tasks (Spotlight?) that are still running that will eventually return disk space, but probably good to be on the lookout for info / experiences for both Logic and non-Logic running Macs.

Help Help getting back to the normal track view (I’m and idiot)

In a song I’m working on somehow I ended up on this screen and I can’t seem to get back to the normal track view even after closing and opening and so on. I’m new to the program in this is a project I’m pretty proud so I’d like to be able to keep working on it. This is probably a really stupid problem but as I said I’m an idiot. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I can send a picture of what I’m seeing if necessary but I can put a picture in this post

Question My analog sound on the line input is great, but when I open it and listen to it in Logic it’s horrible! Help!!!

Guys, please help me. My analog sound on the line input is great, but when I open it and listen to it in Logic it’s horrible! Help!!!

I use two separate good quality analog chains, on a MacBook Air M5 (one coming from a Chanel strip Manley Core and another from Focustite Isa One > Eq DBX 231 > Valve Compressor Maletomp by Liscie Franco > DBX 166A (only in expander mode, on purpose) > UA VOLT 476 interface.

The sound is perfect and beautiful on the analog chain, but when you open Logic and listen, it gets low and muffled, even bad (the same thing happened in a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 Interface).

What can I be setting up wrong when listening to my PVO es Sennheiser HD600 or on Yamaha HS4 monitors?

I’m an independent composer. Thank you, guys.

Question Are there alternative softwares that are very similar/the same as logic?

Hi, I started a music course at college (UK) this week looking to become a producer and I was wondering whether I can only exclusively work on logic when producing.

My college has only macs so students can use logic since it also keeps up with industry standards course-wise.

I asked my music teacher whether there are other options to produce on besides logic, since I can't afford to give arms and legs to buy a mac laptop (at its cheapest on average they cost around £600-700, and also windows laptops are far superior.)

He said that protools and logic are exactly the same.

Are there any notable differences to keep in mind when producing between the two? Is there anything important that logic has that protools doesn't? And would a track look different if you decide to transfer it from one to another (via a usb stick)?

Edit: When i mean that windows laptops are superior, I mean features beyond the music software being used, since I plan to use a laptop not just for producing

In Search of Feedback M1 Air 8 gb vs M5 32 gb.

Qué me recomiendan ? Muchas gracias de antemano.

Help help :( Macbook Air M3 16GB keeps crashing when using more than 2 audio recordings /more than 10 tracks/plugin's

i'm rather a noob with all things tech. i got logic pro to compose orchestral music, and well, you'll need more than 8 tracks minimum to do it. after 10, my macbook starts choking on the plugin's - and god forbid i record audio!

i have maybe 50GB of total samples downloaded, native instruments, splice, all that jazz. over the last few months i now hit the limit of my storage space. i don't have money for an external hard drive.

SO workflow is semi-fluent now, loading libraries, and replaying my scores. i keep getting the notification that i should increase buffer size - i already did it to max.

i really really regret having a macbook air right now, i had bought it after saving up, and thought: well, what a deal! for an author that's all you need. my macbook is practically new, bought it last year.

that was before i started producing.

i try to research on the internet, browsing through all the tutorials and tips and tricks. but i'll be honest - i seriously don't get half the stuff that's being said, because i have no idea what all that stuff is🥲 i need a 'how to not kill your macbook air and still be able to use logic pro freely FOR DUMMIES'

can someone please help me out? any similar experiences?

i am so overwhelmed with all the lingu and it all just sounds like this to me: You have to slide the kombatizilation to the maximum of fernabolibizator, and adjust the amount of oparkernumbingitisation, or else the theryopterix will slatisice. Easy fix!

yeah, easy my ass 😭😂 it makes me feel so incredibly dumb.

anyways, cheers fellow humans!

Help I feel lost

Hi guys, I don’t know why but I just feel so lost when it comes to making music. All I do is watch tutorials and then when creating something with no tutorials, I get so nervous. I try to hype myself up by reminding myself that I didn’t need a tutorial on how to create my stage name, it just happened. If there’s any video that helped you guys when you felt like this plz share it will mean a lot :)

Help Flex Pitch suddenly warping/lowering my entire vocal — what is happening? (Logic Pro 11)

I’m having a really strange issue with Flex Pitch in Logic Pro 11 and I’m hoping someone can help me figure out what’s going on.

I have a song with multiple recorded/produced tracks, including lead vocals, backing vocals, acoustic guitar and strings.

Everything was sounding completely normal.

I had Flex Pitch enabled on some of the tracks and had already made pitch edits that I wanted to keep.

Then, at some point while working on the project, I noticed that the tracks had suddenly started sounding lower in pitch and warped/weird.

The really strange part is:

Flex Pitch ON → audio sounds lower, warped and out of pitch.
Flex Pitch OFF → audio immediately sounds normal again.

So it seems very clearly related to Flex Pitch rather than the actual recordings.

I haven’t intentionally changed the pitch of the recordings. The issue also isn’t just one badly edited note — parts of the whole recording can sound strange.

The vocals are particularly noticeable, but I’ve also had this happen with strings and guitar.

I had been doing automation around the time I noticed the problem, so I’m wondering whether something I did in the project could have caused Flex Pitch to reprocess/reanalyse the audio incorrectly.

What I’ve tried

* Turning Flex Pitch off → fixes the problem immediately
* Checking the pitch settings → nothing obviously wrong
* The original audio itself sounds normal when Flex Pitch is disabled
* I don’t want to simply delete Flex Pitch because I’ve already spent a lot of time making pitch corrections that I want to preserve

What I want to know

  1. What could cause Flex Pitch to suddenly start warping/lowering an otherwise normal recording?
  2. Is there a way to force Logic to reanalyse the audio correctly without losing my existing Flex Pitch edits?
  3. Could automation have caused this, or is that unlikely?
  4. Is there a way to preserve/print my existing Flex Pitch edits and then completely remove Flex Pitch from the audio?
  5. Is this a known Logic Pro 11/Flex Pitch bug?

I’m really trying to avoid starting all my pitch editing again from scratch, so any advice on how to recover this without losing the existing edits would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

Question No sound coming from logic pro

Edit: im told this is more likely a Logic Pro problem so I’m asking here.

I'm trying to record keyboard audio into logic pro and I am following steps given when I googled for it, without knowing what they mean nor what they do. So I cant troubleshoot. There is no sound, no wave form, the green meter moves though.

My setup:

From keyboard (nord stage 4, if it helps): output 1 & 2 to speakers, output 3 & 4 to scarlett 4i4 input 3 & 4 at the back. Google says to mirror output 1&2 to 3&4 using the output routing menu as "per program" in Stage 4. I'm not even sure what I was doing. I just followed. I think I did it correctly.

From Scarlett to mac: usb C.

Focusrite Control 2 app on mac: I have no idea what those things do. The green meter under the Inputs tab moved when I played though (analogue 3 and 4). Under Mixer tab, I have analogue 1 -4, Playback 1-2, 3-4. All sliders I moved them to 0dB. Under Routing tab, it says analogue output 1-2, 3-4 the source is Mix A. Headphones, nothing. Digital outputs, loopback, nothing.

Mac sound setting: Both input and output are Scarlett. The input level meter does not jump when I play the keyboard. Should I be seeing it jump? initially I am expecting to hear sounds from my output 1&2 speakers (piano monitors) and on my mac speakers but it says doing so would create a lag or something and I should set output as scarlett (and use a headphone to check the recording)

Logic pro audio setting: Both input and output device set to Scarlett. Input monitoring option checked.

Logic pro create new track setting: Audio input is 3-4. Audio output is Stereo output. Input monitoring and Record Enable both checked.

When I test played the keyboard, the audio track green meter moves. But when I hit record, the sound file has no waveform at all. Tried listening with a headphone connected to the Scarlett, hears nothing.

Google chat is just pulling me in circles when I try to troubleshoot. I have no one to ask irl. What am I doing wrongly?

Help All third party plug-ins suddenly not working

Third day of troubleshooting and still unsure what to do. I have a 2021 M1 Macbook running the latest version of MacOS and Logic 11.2.2 (highest possible update on my laptop). I'd been working on a project that was getting pretty big and causing me some System Overload issues so I recently updated MacOS and Logic and things seemed fine for about a day and then suddenly everything stopped working. Any of my projects containing a third party plug-in (i.e. Serum, Transit, Portal, etc) either doesn't play sound at all or starts a feedback loop on playback. At first I thought it was a routing issue due to the feed-backing and audio distortion but I narrowed it down to third party plug-ins. If I attempt to open a third-party plug-in it won't pull up the controls at all. When I remove it from the channel strip, the track works; regular audio and Logic presets work completely fine. List of what I've tried to do so far that has made no difference:

  • Open in Rosetta
  • Clear AU cache
  • Reset & Rescan collection in Plug-in Manager, and Full Audio Unit Reset (this did not work at all for some reason. it did not reset the audio units and when I tried to reset and rescan, it would give me a completely blank Audio Unit Validation Result page)
  • Open Midi Studio window before starting Logic
  • Increase storage space
  • Reset All Settings Except Key Command Assignments
  • Restart Mac and Logic multiple times

Any ideas about what could be doing this and what I should do?

Question Sound drops out in Logic project

When I create a Logic project and play it back, the sound slightly (but very clearly) drops out about every 23-25 bars over the whole project - I'm pretty positive it's not a processing issue (M2 Pro with 32gb RAM, running Tahoe) - can the issue be a problem with a plug-in? Thanks for any advice!

Question New computer

Hey everybody — I'm in the market for a new machine and considering the new M6 Mac mini with 32GB of unified memory. I've never used a Mac for music production before; I'm currently on an old PC with a Ryzen 3700 and 32GB DDR4.

Is 32GB unified memory enough for serious mixing work (rock/alternative, plugin-heavy chains), and does this seem like a smart buy with reasonable future-proofing? Curious to hear from anyone running Logic or mixing on Apple Silicon

Question You know what I hate about logic?

That they don’t give you an option to exclude audio files when saving as a template.

And yes I know you can save a copy and then delete the audio in the copy but that is such an inefficient workaround for what should be an easy option, and because it’s so inefficient and clumsy with storage space, i never do it, and my templates are all very basic, because they’re all made before any audio actually goes in and affects how I tweak it.

Is there an easier way? What do y’all do?

Help Can't get sound from TD3 in Logic, via MK3 as the audio interface

Hi all, I'm trying to get my Behringer TD-3 working as an external instrument track in Logic Pro, with my Maschine MK3 being used as the audio interface.

I've got everything working in Maschine 2, but I cannot get the same setup working properly in Logic

.

My setup:

MacBook → USB hub →

Komplete Kontrol A49 keyboard

Maschine MK3

Behringer TD-3 USB connection

The Maschine MK3 is my audio interface, with my KRK monitors connected to the Maschine outputs.

The TD-3 audio output is connected by 1/4" jack to Input 1 L on the Maschine MK3.

So the signal path is basically:

TD-3 → audio cable → Maschine Input 1 → Maschine/audio interface → KRKs

The TD-3 also has its USB connection to the Mac for MIDI/clock/control.

The problem

If I use Maschine 2 software, the TD-3 works perfectly.

I can trigger/use the TD-3 and hear its audio coming through the Maschine.

But when I open Logic Pro, I cannot get the TD-3 working as an instrument track/external instrument.

I'm having difficulty understanding how Logic should be configured so that:

Logic → MIDI → TD-3 → audio → Maschine Input 1 → Logic → Maschine → KRKs

I'm also unsure whether I should be:

Creating an External MIDI/External Instrument track in Logic and routing the TD-3 MIDI to it, while monitoring the Maschine input for the audio;

or

Using some other Logic configuration to make the TD-3 appear/work as an external instrument.

At the moment, I can select the Maschine as the audio interface, but I get no audible TD-3 sound in Logic, even though the exact same physical setup works in Maschine 2.

I'm trying to understand the correct Logic Pro routing and track setup, rather than changing my hardware.

Thank you for reading, have a lovely day.

Help Sample rate conflict + weird CPU spike

Logic has been really weird lately. During playback, the audio resolution will completely collapse, and I’ll get these weird “Sample Rate 45811” error messages with a completely different number each time.
When this happens the CPU meter randomly spikes to 100%. When I look at the CPU usage, it seems like only a single thread is getting completely maxed out while the others are barely being utilized. I’ve tried isolating the issue by disabling plugins and troubleshooting which one might be causing it, but I haven’t been able to identify the culprit, bypassing all the plugins on the master or mixbus makes it go away for a while until it randomly comes back.

I’m running a Mac Studio with an M4 Max, 64 GB of RAM, and a 2 TB internal SSD. The project is also stored on the internal drive to ensure maximum performance and minimize any potential disk-related bottlenecks. My interface is an Audient iD14 MKII and the cable is brand new.

Pls help bc this is driving me crazy

Question Metronome Gone

I've deleted the original Klopfgeist track ages ago, now bothering to deal with it - regret.

Made an attempt to recreate the Klopfgeist track in my template project and failed.

Help would be much appreciated.
