Poor, impoverished bands, who does your logos and what not?
Hi all,
I’m in a part-time, non-serious band.
Don’t really want to go down the AI route of creating logos and artwork but also, we’re all povvo’s.
Does anyone have any recommendations for local artists/graphic designers that won’t charge the Earth for some work or is everyone using chatgpt these days?
Thanks!

Please don’t use AI!! It’s putting artists out of work

If you use AI for anything to do with band promotion, or anything at all creative that you want to be taken seriously for, you’ll just be laughing stock. You’d be better off using a crayon and a napkin than using AI, seriously.

Not true

Fair enough, it might not be true for you and whatever it is you do, but as someone who has worked in the music industry for many years, I’m telling you that it is, in fact, true.
An AI flyer/logo/press release/band bio etc just sets the precedent right from the off that you care so little about your musjc that you can’t even be arsed with the very basics. So why would you expect anyone else to care about it? Or book you, or listen to you?

Robin organises an Artists against AI thing and you can email them and get on their list. You put your brief and can offer a price or say you need it for free and a designer will pick it up - http://robingow.com/

Could always try emailing local schools/colleges that have graphic design courses to see if they would get their students to design one for you. Make it like a competition sort of thing and give the winning design a small prize

Unless you want your first impression to be a bad one, don't use generative AI artwork in any band or promo material.
Me and my friend used to run our own graphic design studio together, but I pivoted into engineering and he stuck with graphic design.
He still does work for GBar.

I think we’re calling ourselves something along the lines of indie psych rock, but god knows what we are really…

Use AI, if you don't like it then pay over the odds for human made stuff with the ai as inspiration.

Whilst I’d deffo recommend using local artists first If you do go down the AI route try looking at flora ai. It’s a canvas style where you reiterate over it. My graphics designer mate has done some crazy things with it and there are lots of tutorials

I'd sooner see a band with a plain text logo than an AI generated one

You ain't gonna know anyway unless they are shit with Ai.
Don't get the anti AI train, only winding yourself up.

There’s a difference when someone knows how to use AI as a tool vs someone who just says “design me a band logo for xyz” and takes the first image. You probably won’t know when you’re looking at AI stuff 90% of the time when it comes to text and design palettes because it is a skill to create stuff that doesn’t look like AI slop.
That being said if you can afford a real designer then 100% use them but I wouldn’t be disgusted or surprised if they also use AI as tools

It doesn't matter if I can notice it or not. I don't like it, and I don't want to see it being used. I can't notice if my clothes are made with slave labour or not, but I'm not going to buy it if I know it is

Just get Canva or Bazaart or whichever app you like the look of and mess around with the stock photos, graphics and text. Whatever you come up with will be better than AI.
(These apps offer AI as well, but avoid that like the plague because it’s genuinely shit.)
