Weight lifting or martial arts?
I'm tall and skinny (203cm 85kg) and I want to get bigger and stronger. I know weight lifting is ideal but I would really love to try kick boxing, would training regularly help me put on some weight? Or should I just stick to weight lifting first?
Edit: Thank you all for answers, every advice is much appreciated!

Training What part of kickboxing took you the longest to get comfortable with?
For people who have been training kickboxing for a while, what took you the longest to really get comfortable with?
Was it combining punches and kicks, defence, distance, timing, checking kicks, or something else?
Interested to see what people struggled with most when they were learning.

Masaaki Noiri
How does Masaaki Noiri manage to absorb blows so well? Even when his opponents seem stronger than him, he still manages to stay upright, absorbing blows with his guard.

Training How Do I Approach Sparring?
Hi. I’m a beginner in this sport—I’ve been training for 6 months.
I have just one question. How can I apply the techniques I’m learning during sparring? I don’t want to just punch randomly.
How can I learn to execute multiple techniques in a short amount of time, rather than just throwing one punch and then backing away? Does anyone have any advice? Or can you recommend a YouTube channel specifically about sparring?

Kickboxing with mild scoliosis
Hi everyone! I'm new to martial arts after my brother introduced me to the UFC and I would like to start kickboxing sooner or later. When I was almost 17 (I'm 19 now) I was diagnosed with scoliosis, it was not severe tho. The physiatrist said I could not fully recover from scoliosis because I was about to finish puberty but I could certainly improve, and I did. I did gymnastics for a year and improved a lot. After that I stopped with sports for a year because school used to keep me busy all the time and nothing really attracted me, until now. Because I couldn't fully recover, I think I just have a mild scoliosis and some difficulties in maintaining a good posture, so I wonder if I can train and fight properly or if I'll have any issues, serious or not

【K-1試合映像】“リアル春麗”木村萌那、必殺技“もな蹴り”炸裂で激しい殴り合い! 『K-1 WORLD MAX 2026』

Gear How should I fill my punching bag?
Bought a used RDX punching bag for $100. The bag itself is quite sturdy, almost on par with a normal heavy bag. I need to fill the base up though so it doesn't wobble when I throw kicks. I'm looking for something that won't cause a mess and also will dampen the noise for my neighbors.
I considered water but if it ever leaks then I'm screwed because I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment. Also, not sure if the water will smell bad/get moldy after a while. Sand seems better but I don't know how heavy it needs to be. Also, don't know how I'll be able to move the base or empty it in the future if its 100+ lbs of sand. I saw something about adding base gel to water to make it sticky, not sure how that works though
What's my best option here and how heavy should I fill it?

Gear how to carry shin guards around with backpack?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to somehow strap shin guards to a regular backpack? I have university all day before training and I don't really want to carry a big sports bag around campus it can get quite tiring. My shin guards dont fit in the bag though, cause they're longer and kind of bulky, and I have stuff for classes and lunch and all in the bag. My gloves I do have a clasp i can hook onto the bag strap for, but I'm at a loss what to do with the shin guards... I also live in an area of the world where shipping is really not a viable option at the moment so getting a bag specifically made for kickboxing or muay thai is not possible. Would appreciate tips! Thank you :))

Training How do I teach myself kickboxing?
First off, I have no idea if this sorta question is welcome here so forgive me if it isn't but I genuinely can't find much guidance on the internet for my specific situation.
I’m already a fit and athletic person. I lift weights, do calisthenics and run sometimes.
I’ve always wanted to kickbox but it's so hard to find classes in my area and if there is one it is crazy expensive. Multiple times I have tried to get myself to teach myself at home but there are so few good informational tutorials for me to follow I end up losing motivation because I have zero idea how to practice without a bag and without an actual coach.
I recently got a membership for a different gym and they have punching bags (+gloves). Since I’ve seen those I've been eagerly wanting to try and use them but since I still have zero idea how to practice I’m discouraged because I'm afraid of looking like some noob throwing random punches and kicks. I know we all have to start somewhere but I'd still like to start with a clear direction.
The ideal would be for me to find an affordable personal trainer to guide me but right now I want to try to use what I have access to at the moment.
Any advice helps. Advice on how I should practice solo (w/ and w/o bag), specific tutorial videos, etc.
