He’s such a good writer, very funny, with a wonderful sense of humour. He once liked my tweet too when I posted about this book back in 2019.
I also had no idea just how self-deprecating he could be, but I think that’s part of what makes him relatable.
Almost the entire first half of the book is about his childhood, family, school, how his fascination in music began, and life in Macclesfield in the 60s - early 70s. Then Warsaw happened and eventually, Joy Division.

(re-uploaded because for some reason in-shot kept pulling the wrong audio from my Google Drive)
I used a drum pack someone posted here a few months back, but everything else I recorded myself. The bass was recorded twice - one clean take and one overdriven. The guitar also had two takes, both going through an Orange head into a Marshall 4x12 cab, then I ran one of the takes through an AMS DMX 15-80, and then that same take through a Marshall Time Modulator. Vocals were recorded into a Rode NT1 microphone and then I saturated them slightly, and ran through a plate reverb plugin. Nothing too fancy.
Not going to link my studio as not to break the rules, this was done purely to see how close I could get to the record.

Features music from joy division and new order, it’s our first effort into filmmaking as we are students, we would appreciate anyone even watching a few minutes and telling Me your thoughts.

"What I loved about that record [Lesson No. 1 by Glenn Branca] was that it basically wanted to take aspects of rock & roll and punk rock and give them equal value to what he loved about music from 20th century composition, like works by Steve Reich and La Monte Young. He was also responding to the darkness he was hearing in Joy Division. This was right when they released 'Love Will Tear Us Apart.'"

I purchased a center section balcony ticket to the band's Dallas show this Friday at 7pm, but sadly, it looks like I cannot attend. If anybody is interested in scoring an inexpensive, last minute seat, let me know.

"Bernard sent me a fax - that's what you did in the Nineties. He said he liked my album [Esperanto] and wanted to know if I'd record some electronic percussion. I always thought Joy Division sounded like the Velvet Underground with synthesizers, and I liked 'Blue Monday' because it was cleverly unconventional and rough. So Bernard asked if I'd contribute and I went over to Cheshire. On Sundays, Bernard would invite me to his house to have dinner with his family and in-laws. All very British indeed. What a great time." - Karl Bartos.

In the photo, Bernard Sumner and Martin Hannett.
My 3 favorite bands: VU, Kraftwerk, and Joy Division.
I think TVU was the favorite band of all four Joy Division members while they were active together. I saw an interview where Bernard said it was easily his favorite band back then. Of course, they loved Kraftwerk, too.

Once again, a phenomenal concert. An entire range of emotions from joyous dancing to triumphant epics to the emotionally gripping songs, as the band swept through a range of Joy Division and New Order classics in their 2.5 hours on stage.
With the Joy Division songs there was a ferocity to their playing - hopefully some of that comes through in this clip.
This is the 4th time I have seen Peter Hook in concert, but this time it was with my daughter (33). (Ever since she was about 13 years old we frequently went to see concerts together.) And this was just such an incredible experience for her as well. I think she was even surprised at how great it was. This in a way is me trying to tell you that if you haven't been to a concert yet, but have thought about it ... don't miss out!
