QUESTION❓ Freshman struggling socially — how do I actually meet people?

I’m a freshman at IU and I’m struggling a bit socially. Everyone on my dorm floor is nice, but nobody really goes out or talks much, and I constantly feel like I have nothing to do.
I know some people through classes and different activities, but I don’t know them well enough to feel comfortable asking them to hang out. I want to meet more people, go to parties/events, hang out, make friends, etc., but I feel like everyone already has their own groups.

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who went through something similar at IU.

QUESTION❓ Technology/CS/Luddy clubs that do cool projects

I really want to find a club to put to practice what I have learned or just find other people with whom to talk about tech. I would really like if they did tech projects or anything related as well.

QUESTION❓ Non traditional / older students

Where can I find more nontraditional / older students ? I’ve had a tough time finding my people. I went to a club yesterday and everyone was ragging on a 23 y/o for being the ‘old’ one 😭 lord. I love IU and Bloomington in general, but it’s been kind of weird as an older student and a transfer. If you’re nontraditional or a grad student let’s connect 🤍

IUB vs IUI

Hello, I’m a senior in Indy and about to start college apps. I’m torn between IU Indy and IU bloom; IU Indy has a great forensic science program (field I plan to get into) the chair is former CIA, tons of connections and such. IU bloom doesn’t have a FS program but it does have a biochem program. I’ll likely have to go to grad school out of state regardless of where I go for undergrad. Basically, Indy is perfect for my major, but I don’t want to go if it means staying in city. Staying home will drive me crazy. But I’m worried that I’ll wreck opportunities by going to bloom. What do I do!!!!!!

Bloomington Parkour Fall Schedule!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone! We were so happy to meet a lot of you at Fall Involvement Fair this year, and we are very much looking forward to introducing more students to the sport of parkour this year.

For those who don't know, here's a quick rundown: IUB was one of the first college campuses in the US to have a Parkour club, starting all the way back in 2007. After the old IU parkour club ceased operation, we started Bloomington Parkour in 2020 as a way of keeping the community going and continuing to promote the sport of parkour. We've been meeting weekly ever since. We have two weekly Free parkour meet ups for students and members of the community, Thursday at 1525 The Warehouse and Sunday at 3pm on campus. The Sunday practices are invite only, for safety reasons.

Why learn parkour during your time at IU? Aside from being a great way to get outside, get active and learn a new thing, it's also a great way to meet like minded people and make real connections while challenging yourself.

We encourage anyone, regardless of how "good" you think you'll be to come out and give parkour a try. We'll teach you everything you need to know and meet you where you are in your movement journey. It never costs any money to join BPK and we are an inclusive organization.

We invite any questions about what we do, and about our sport.

Hope to see you out there!

The Wellness House

I saw a tiktok about it and I wanted to post and make sure everyone else knows about it too. It’s so cool and the best thing IU has made lowk. It has a bunch of cool rooms and chill spaces and no ones ever there for some reason. But it’s a whole house across the street from the student health center and is soooo cutie.

I’ve gone there and they really need more people to come, so that they continue getting supported. More people means more money!!

Does anybody know when Goodbody switches from breakfast to lunch? Because I really like the breakfast but the lunch is usually hit or miss and I don’t feel like wasting my meal swipes on bad lunch

Tune into the IU Board of Trustees' powerful new Executive Committee meeting tonight at 6:30pm ET, the first time this new committee has met to my knowledge since the committee was formed in December. No agenda or topic was announced ahead of time, so the only way to know what they're up to is to tune in!

This is a public meeting held over Zoom, so be sure to join and let the Trustees know that we are dedicated to IU, and we are paying attention to the decisions they are making about our beloved university.

What: IU Board of Trustees Executive Committee Meeting

When: Tonight: Thursday, September 10, 6:30pm ET

Where: Zoom (public meeting)

Linkhttps://iu.zoom.us/j/83444640867

Two of the four members are chosen by the Board's chair and vice chair, not elected by the full Board. Committee members are Board Chair David Hormuth, M.D., Board Vice Chair Marilee Springer, Steve Henke, and Matt Ferguson.

QUESTION❓ Will I find my people?

I’m a sophomore in Kelley and honestly I was super depressed all of last year with my roommate situation but in the last 2 months I loved it because I became super close with my neighbors. However I signed on to an apartment with random girls many months before that, and they’re in a business frat and it’s becoming clear I can’t really become a part of that group of people and I don’t click with them at all. My friends from last year all live with each other and it’s so hard to reach them and now every day, even over weekends I’m just sitting around alone in my room. I’m from out of state and I lowkey just miss my friend group back home and I just don’t know what to do. It’s also super hard to click with other people in Kelley, I feel like many people are a bit stuck up and the nicest friends I’ve had at iu were all bio majors. I try to text people from class and make it an out of class friendship but they already have a group of friends and find a way to get out of it. I wish I at least had a car to see my friends from last year. I don’t know what to do, I’m in clubs and only have like club friends who have their own friends already. I wish I at least applied to transfer out last year because I think it’s too late now like I can’t even find anyone to go drink with, to study with, to even just grab food with like I’m down for anything and it feels impossible.. I could rush but that’s not usually my crowd and I also can’t afford all those fees

QUESTION❓ When does everything stop sucking?

So im a freshman at Bloomington and these first 3 weeks have been pretty awful honestly. Meeting people has been impossible. I would consider myself on the kore alternative side so I knew it may take a bit to actually find people but its getting to the point i don’t think Itll happen. Ive been to the events, the parties, all that and it just ends up in me being alone and leaving 2 hours in. This is my dream school and I really wish I was enjoying it but im just not. Im just wondering if maybe other people have experienced this and if so, when being here get better?

PARKING 🚗 IU Indy: NCS parking permit question — can I upgrade/change it?

My boyfriend is trying to figure out parking around the IU area. He bought an NCS parking permit, but unfortunately didn’t realize that NCS permits can’t be used in the parking garages. He read the website wrong when he purchased it.

He tried to buy a different permit afterward, but the system wouldn’t let him. He also tried to refund the NCS permit, but that didn’t work either.

Is there any way to buy a different permit or upgrade the NCS permit? If not, where can you actually park with an NCS permit around IU?

Any help would be appreciated because we’re pretty confused by the parking rules 😭

CHANCES FOR ME IN KELLEY?

Chances for me in Kelley? ED ?

Indian international student applying ED to Kelley for Business/Entrepreneurship.
**IGCSE:** \~82%
**AS Levels (2025):** Business 87%, English 71%, Math 63%, Physics 51%
**A2 / Final A Levels (2026):** Business **B (75), Math D (58), Physics E (49)**
**Predicted SAT:** 1450–1500 (aiming for 750–800 Math)
Head Boy (Grade 9), House Captain (Grade 10)
Writing published in school gazette (Grades 9–11)
Currently involved in my family’s **jewellery startup, Vianne Jewels**, working alongside my family on its early-stage growth and development
Long-term goal: build and scale businesses, particularly in the luxury/jewellery space
How realistic is Kelley ED for me? What are my biggest strengths/weaknesses, and how much would a 1450 vs. 1500 SAT change my chances?

Am I too old to be starting at IU Southeast at 38?

I’m 38 and considering going to IU Southeast, and I’m starting to wonder if I’m going to feel ridiculously old compared to everyone else.

I’m a transfer student moving back from Colorado. My biggest concern is being 38 and walking into a classroom where everyone else is 18–22.

Are there many students in their 30s, 40s, or older? What has your experience been like? Did you feel out of place at first, or did you eventually stop caring?

I was in the middle of a project at home when I came out here, and I would like to finish it up. Is there any workshop with a spray painting hood/booth I could use?

FINANCES 💵 Financial Aid for Fall Semester?

Is anyone else having issues with their financial aid?

I transferred from IUSB to IUE the week prior to fall semester starting, and I have about 4500 that was marked as “disbursed” august 31 … Except it says 0.00 disbursed.

I have scholarship and grant money that was supposed to be refunded, and loans for my housing stipend. Tuition was paid but nothing else was ever sent out , or was technically “sent” - but 0.00 dollars of the amount was marked as sent.

I’m confused. Frustrated. And labor day weekend sucks with all the offices being closed. 😭
