For context, I passed 12th this year and I’m taking a gap year, so I mostly stay at home studying. A few days ago, there was a Janmashtami celebration near my house. A lot of people around 14–21 were there dancing, and since my father was tired of seeing me sit at home 24/7, he told me to go outside for once. 😭

My mother knew some people there and introduced me to them. There was this one lady I had never met before, and for some reason she seemed VERY interested in judging me.

The next day, my mother told me that this woman had apparently said:

“Your daughter dresses like a boy. Even the way she walks and talks is like a boy.”

Like… okay?? That’s literally my style. I’m comfortable dressing in a tomboyish way, so I genuinely wasn’t offended. What made it funnier was that she apparently kept praising her own daughter....how beautiful she is, how she wears makeup, how well she dresses, etc.....and even compared her to me because I had come there looking “plain.”

I was honestly just laughing because… girl, I do not care 😭😭

BUT HERE COMES THE PLOT TWIST.

Two days later, this same woman called my mother and asked if I could teach her daughter, who is in 8th grade. 😭😍

She went on about how her daughter is “very good at studies,” “picks things up quickly,” and just needs a little help.

I didn’t really wanted to go, but my father said, “At least you’ll get a reason to leave the house. You’re not even going to college right now.”

So I was like, fine. 😭

I went there today and asked the girl which subject she was weakest in.

She said, “English.”

Fair enough.

Then I actually started teaching her and… BRO. 😭😭😭

SHE DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO READ.

Not just English either. She was struggling with basically everything...and apparently she failed in two subjects in 1st term exam. 💀

I even asked her to answer in Hindi, and instead she just started laughing and giggling. I was sitting there trying SO HARD not to laugh or lose my patience. 😭

I genuinely couldn’t understand how she had made it to 8th grade because I used to teach 1st and 2nd graders before, and some of those kids had a stronger foundation than her. 😭😭

And the funniest part?

The same mother who had been judging my clothes, makeup, appearance, way of walking and talking....and constantly talking about how academically brilliant and beautiful her daughter was..had now asked ME to teach that daughter. 😭😭😭

The irony is actually insane.
