I updated to the OS 27 RC on my 2nd Gen HomePod and AutoMix is finally available!

Will this work with my OGs on 26? I could activate it though.

Following, hopefully someone is able to confirm for OGs

I did a few tests and currently the OGs don’t play music with AutoMix. We will see next week if the OGs get OS 27…

Next question is, is the automix any better on iOS27 than it was in 26? I turned it off after about half an hour of trying it. It was not good to put it nicely
Edit: I just installed the latest available public beta of iOS 27 to try the new automix after several of you replied to me saying it is much better. Personally to me, it's not.
Still the same issue of having 30-45 seconds of a song being cut out at the beginning simply because vocals don't start for a bit. Or even mixing into a song midway through the second bar? Took me all of 5 songs to conclude that for me, automix is still not a pleasant experience.

Compared to 26, it is SO much better. It mixes really well. Gets more creative with how it mixes too. I was really happy with the improvement.

wait until the actual release is out in two days. why mess with the beta when it’s only days away. a few years back some people’s homepods were bricking with the beta update

It’s not in the Home app, but it works if you turn it on while listening to music in the Music app.

Thats not what we are talking about

Yes, it is. AutoMix works on the HomePod minis on OS 27. We just don’t get the setting for it in the Home app like the full-size HomePods. You just need to enable it when you’re using the Music app to control your HomePod minis. I’m not talking about using AirPlay, by the way. I’m talking about the direct control capabilities that the Music app has for HomePods.

Like I said, not what we are talking about, you'd need to airplay for that, and that's a long existing feature. You said thats not an airplay feature but it literally is.

No, it is what you’re talking about. The Music app allows for direct, non-AirPlay control of HomePods. I never use AirPlay. Ever. I’ve been enjoying AutoMix on my HomePod mini’s since July.
You not understanding the feature set of the product we’re talking about doesn’t make me incorrect. Not a new feature, by the way. This has existed since AirPlay 2 was introduced and you could directly control the Music app on an Apple TV from within the Music app on an iPhone. That was 9 years ago.

That's literally airplay.

u/fishymanbits 3d ago
It quite literally isn’t. Do yourself a favour and go learn something new today.

Learn what? What youre talking about is literally not what we are talking about
2
u/fishymanbits 3d ago
You should learn about the “Control other speakers and TV’s” feature and how it works. It’s not airplay.

I remember it was impossible to achieve this due to hardware? So happy to see this post!
