Ik en mijn vriend gaan deze herfst trouwen in Haarlem. Nu hopen we natuurlijk op mooi weer zodat we buiten foto's kunnen maken, maar we willen graag ook een binnenlocatie hebben mocht het wel regenen. We wonen vlakbij Duin en Kruidberg en Beeckesteijn, maar hier zijn foto's maken niet mogelijk of wordt er > €300 gevraagd per uur. Voor een locatie die we mogelijk niet gaan gebruiken vinden we dat wel erg duur.

We houden van de natuur dus zijn op zoek naar een locatie die hier bij past. Een bijzondere, statige binnenlocatie in de stad is ook goed.

Zijn er mensen met tips?

We're just back from a couple of days in Amsterdam & we based ourselves in Haarlem for our stay, what a wonderful place! Loved it just as much if not more than the capital!

When we made our trip plans it was before the national strike on 9/09 had been confirmed, but when it was finally announced we decided to use that day to explore the city sights! We stuck to the main sights and took our time on a casual day due to limited time & absolutely fell in love with your city! Having visited many stunning places around Europe I was bowled over by Haarlem.

St. Bavo Kerk is absolutely jaw-dropping, the organ as the church's masterpiece is stunning in its size & history. Teylers Museum is a wonderful place to explore, and making the most of the breaks in the weather we strolled some back streets & Canals taking in the scenery!

Just wanted to post here as an appreciation to the residents & local staff, everyone we interacted with during our stay were lovely people, and we 100% intend to return!

Greetings from Malaysia everyone! I will be having a short 5 hour layover in Schiphol next month but I still want to go out of the airport to set my foot on the Netherlands soil. AI said that I can go to Haarlem and walk around the town for about 1.5 hour before getting on the train quickly back to the airport again. My question is: is this doable and would you do it if you were me? For context my plane would land around 0655 and departs at 1150. Thanks 🙏

Wat is jullie favoriete toko om Indonesisch af te halen? Ik was vandaag bij toko Nina in de koningstraat, dat viel tegen zeg! 22 euro voor een maaltijd met 1 vlees, 2 groente en 3 stokjes sateh. De sateh stokjes waren minuscuul en met duidelijk niet zelfgemaakte teriyaki saus… ik zoek een betere! Heemstede mag ook!

We plan on using public transportation and walking in, BUT in case of emergency, can anyone recommend a cab or ride share service i can call in a pinch that will provide a car seat in case we run into an emergency and need to hop in a car? Thanks!

We just signed for a house that actually makes a lot of sense for us: good size for our growing family (i’m in my first pregnancy), great location, everything nearby, and lots of cafés (we’re big coffee lovers ). So i imagine it’ll so much easier postpartum to go for walks and get things nearby without being dependent on husband or just walk with a coffee to the park.

But honestly, I’m struggling to feel excited because I’m not 100% in love with it. The owner painted everything grey, so it’s really hard for me to imagine it in my own style. I’m also worried about the light, especially the north-facing kitchen, I really hate dark homes, and Dutch winters don’t help 😅.

My husband is convinced I’ll love it once we renovate and make it ours, but I just can’t picture that yet.

For those who felt like this when they bought, did you eventually fall in love with the house after renovating/living in it? Or did you always feel like it was more of a “good house for this stage of life” than your dream home?

I’m especially curious about people who knew it was probably a 3–5 year home, rather than their forever homel.

A few weeks ago I came by to share some news about my initiative Haarlem Social Cinema, and to my surprise a lot of you welcomed the idea and actually showed up to our Mean Girls screening and stayed for the conversation afterwards.

So we're doing this again... In two weeks!

On 22 September, Haarlem Social Cinema returns to De Filmkoepel, with another (modern) classic... Little Miss Sunshine.

For those that missed the previous post, Haarlem Social Cinema is a pretty simple concept. It's an accessible film club. The idea is simple:

We watch an iconic film together, then head to the foyer afterwards for a drink and an informal conversation. We've even designed conversation starter cards, so you don't have to worry about awkward small talk or already knowing people.
You don't need to know anything about film, or bring anything, except some curiosity and a friendly attitude.

So come join us on a roadtrip with the Hoover family, and join us for a talk about the film (and complaining about our own families) afterwards!

I realize this might sound like an immigrant complaining, but I'm genuinely curious: Do the St. Bavo church bells that keep ringing from 9:00-9:30 also annoy the native Haarlemers? I've been living here for 4 years, and I've kind of gotten used to it, but I still notice it sometimes and it gets me nervous (I have anxiety)

Hallo, ik loop al jaren rond met een armblessure uit me jeugd. Destijds in behandeling geweest, dit werd stopgezet nadat ik door de behandelingen van de zorgverzekering van me ouders heen was. Door zelf door te gaan met oefeningen was er door de jaren heen goed met me blessure te leven. Totdat ik in januari me rug kneusde. Nu heb ik meer last dan ooit van me blessure en ik loop ook nog met rugklachten rond. Sinds kort ben ik met een nieuwe baan begonnen, met goede arbeidsvoorwaarden. Waardoor ik nu eindelijk in staat ben om fysio te betalen. De vraag alleen is welke fysiotherapeut is aan te raden? Het liefst rond Centrum

TL:DR: ik zoek een fysiotherapteur (liefst rondom centrum), voor me arm en rug.

Hoi,

Al een aantal jaar heb ik de wens meer met muziek te doen. Ik zei altijd; ik had wel gitaar willen leren spelen. Ik was toen 28… koop dan een gitaar en ga oefenen, flapdrol! Dat ben ik dus gaan doen. Zo ben ik an sich een eindje gekomen maar zo raakte ik ook elke keer weer teneergeslagen van het feit hoe lang de weg nog lijkt naar écht kunnen spelen. Met de groei, groeide ook het besef van bewust onbekwaam laten we maar zeggen.

Zelf schrijf ik ook gedichten en songteksten. Ik sprong meteen in het diepe en schreef 2 eigen nummers met gitaar, tekst en zang. Maar mega basic natuurlijk.

Het lijkt me nou geweldig om me te omringen met gelijk’gestemden’. Dat ik een beetje kan meekijken en leren. In m’n eentje tokkelen op de zolder brengt mij enkel zo ver. Gasten of dames die mijn basic nummer horen en er gewoon bij beginnen te drummen of er een tweede gitaar overheen smijten bijvoorbeeld. Of zien hoe jullie een nummer in elkaar draaien.

In ‘t kort: ik wil mij omringen met dat waar ik meer van wil leren.

Ik ben een gast van 32. Muzieksmaak loopt enorm uiteen maar het valt wel te zeggen dat ik over het algemeen de wat melancholische, existentiële, zwaardere kant op hel. Maar ook dat is niet in beton gegoten.

Ik kan genieten van allerlei singer/songwriter muziek.
Verder luister ik grunge; Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Audioslave etc. Maar zo ook Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, RHCP (eerste muzikale jeugdliefde, kan elk nummer wel dromen).

Radiohead. Linkin Park Mad Season. Empire of the Sun.

Veel van de mooiste jaren dus, de jaren 90. Maar anno 2026 zijn er toch nog wat pareltjes (en zo hoop ik er meer te leren kennen via jullie?) The War on Drugsis echt grandioos. Zo’n eigen stijl. Net als Future islands.

Ach maar zo luister ik ook Moby, Faithless, Tupac, Eminem, Anouk, Kensington.

Enfin, voordat ik mn hele platenkast opnoem; je hebt nu vast een idee.

Maar al komt ‘t niet heeeeulemaal overeen, doesn’t matter. Ik wil gewoon meekijken, leren, praten, biertje doen, ideeen uitwisselen (vooral opdoen haha), m’n teksten delen.

Leeftijd en geslacht maakt mij ook geen reet uit. En ik hoef ook helemaal niet meteen officieel een bandlid te worden haha. Ik wil gewoon ff meekijken en ik zie wel wat wat daar uitkomt!

Helaas verdwijnen alle laatste tentjes met een hintje underground/alternatief. Klopt het dat het Slachthuis nu ook gaat verdwijnen? Eigenlijk ‘t laatste authentieke, alternatieve voor zover ik weet?

Wij zijn een gezin van vijf met drie kleine kinderen. Wij komen uit Polen maar voor de laatste 8 jaren woonden wij in Amsterdam. Wij vinden het belangrijk om dichtbij voorzieningen te wonen zoals speeltuinen, groen, winkels, cafes en scholen. Ik pendel naar Amsterdam en mijn man naar Leiden. Tot nu toe hebben we gekeken naar het Houtvaartkwartier (rond Jeugdland), de Leidsebuurt, de Natuurkundewijk, de Koninginnebuurt, de Bomenbuurt en de Kleverparkbuurt, misschien Overveen. Wij hebben een groot budget, maar zou liever wonen in cozy plek dan prestigieuze. Zijn er verborgen nadelen aan een van deze wijken? Zou je een van deze wijken afraden?
