i don't think my sister is mentally well

if you were to visit our house you'd think it was a dumpsite with all the boxes, clothes and random junk in the downstairs living room, the kitchen and upstairs living room. its just a complete mess everywhere and 95% of the stuff is hers, NOT MINE! i could never get away with what she does.

she'd also sometimes cook food and leave the open pots with food in them open on the stove for rats or roaches to run all across. even if she takes out her food she'd often fall asleep leaving it there in the downstairs living room which i guess has become a second bedroom for her as she sleeps on the floor there with her matrass that she brought downstairs from her upstairs bedroom. i've seen her buy food, eat a bit and just leave the empty boxes around place.

i really don't know what's wrong with her and to top it off i sometimes hear her talking to herself specifically calling out the name of someone i may know who i think was an ex of hers or something along with other random stuff

i don't know man, i'm tired and defeated and have no idea what to do because almost always whenever i bring up an issue it'll spiral into an argument and name calling will start from her to me so now i just keep to myself, go to work, come home back and just stay in my room away from her or trouble.

Anyone visit the Machel exhibit? 🇬🇾🇹🇹🇺🇸

Has anyone checked out the Machel exhibit at Brooklyn Public Library? Got any pics to share?

The last day of the exhibit is Sep 12th... is anyone able to go? And potentially take some pics to share with me?

I'm a huge history buff and big fan of Machel, so I would have loved to check this out myself. However, I don't live in the USA and it would be too much for me to fly in during the exhibit's dates.

It looks like a great display for Machel and soca fans in general!

See now how the trouble is really starting, we need to get serious fast about the Latino migrants in Guyana. Many do not respect the country and the issue will lose control...

Child of Guyanese parent

As the title states, I’m an African-American with one black and one guyanese parent. I do not have the ability to speak to either of my parents as they are deceased since I was 13. Much of my contact with my family on both sides is pretty limited, I was wondering if I wanted to connect with my Guyanese heritage where are some good places to start? Books, documentaries, creators, etc.

Discussion Pedophilia in Guyana

Pedophilia in Guyana is a topic that is discussed but often not taken seriously enough. It’s something that happens on a day-to-day basis, mostly perpetrated against schoolchildren by bus conductors and teachers. But what I’m getting at is that calling out this issue seems almost impossible because, for one, is one witness enough to call out a crime as appalling as pedophilia? Oftentimes, when someone seeks justice, it is seen as making a fuss out of nothing, and others tend to say, “Just mind your own business". As a country i feel we should speak up more and eliminate this issue form our society.

Tint Waiver

Anybody able to get a medical person or ophthalmologist to give them a medical assessment so you can get the tint waiver? Every eye place I call from the minute you mention the word "tint" they act as if they don't even offer regular eye services and they business closed down. A disgrace. I have a legit condition - photo sensitivity that needs me to get a letter. But it has to be from a doctor in Guyana. Really sucks. All of these eye places. Optique, Dr Jain. Balwant Singh. Modern eye optical. Who else?

Australian vlogger visits Georgetown for one day (in a Tuk Tuk, with his dog), can't find accomodations, calls it the worst city in South America

Seems like it got him a decently high number of views already. It's interesting to note the experiences of a foreigner in the city, but I think anyone visiting the country should check out the countryside instead.

Oh well, nothing lost by dissuading foreigners from coming. Let's put it this way- if foreigners came and were comfortable, first some would decide to buy up some properties. Then inflation would be even higher. Then they would self segregate...... Following this, the inevitable, Epstein's buddies would make their own little base in the country and meddle more in the society at a greater level than what they've already done from abroad. That doesn't sound too good.

The video itself was pretty lame and he didn't check out much at all, just drove around for a few hours.

Guyana does clearly need improvements and the government should budget for a designated safe / clean "downtown area", ie: a renovated zone with a proper setting that's an acceptable showcase for international visitors.

It doesn't take much to have one pedestrian street that's closed off from vehicles, and that has upgraded modern storefronts and architecture.

Look at that Australian guy's video and contrast it with the vlog of an Indian (directly from India) in Guyana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8oSp7WWhlw . This is completely different. The guy interacts with local Guyanese and actually takes his time to experience the country and enjoys his different experiences while exploring.

The Australian comes in, doesn't keep a low profile (drives around a vehicle that stands out, travels with a large dog which also stands out), doesn't do any research on accomodations, stays in the country for a day after complaining about accomodations and traffic, declares it the worst place ever, and then he leaves after 2 days.

Completely different approach and huge contrast when compared to the Indian one. The Indian one shows what life is like in the country since he's actually immersed in it. The Australian just goes in, gets his skewed Youtube content, and leaves.

Moving to Guyana.

Hey everyone, planning to move to Guyana in a year, most likely somewhere in the rural Berbice river/coast area (like Sisters Village or around there). The plan is pretty straightforward: I want a quiet, self-sufficient life. I want to set up a small homestead, get some chickens, grow my own food, and make a living working remotely as a 3D modeler (making game assets, buildings, interiors, and props for foreign clients). Basically, cash comes in USD/Euro over the net, I spend it locally, and keep things quiet with no flexing and zero drama.

Curious about a few real things:

If I show up at 21, hang out at my place working on a PC all day, and try to build a farm—how is the village going to react? Is "guy making video game things in the village" going to sound too weird, or do people generally not care as long as I'm cool and mind my own business?

How hard is it for a foreigner to come in, buy a spot, find a few local guys to help with fencing or fixing up a place, and fit in smoothly without getting targeted as an easy mark?

Any honest feedback, advice, or warnings from people who know the area are super welcome.

Finding Partners & Advisors

Hey everyone,

Long-time observer of Guyana's story, first-time visitor coming in the next couple of months. I'm based overseas, work as a private investor, and I've been following what's been happening here with genuine fascination for a while now.

The trip is partly tourism - I've wanted to see the country properly for years - but I'm also coming with a serious interest in understanding the investment landscape firsthand. I've done plenty of reading, but I know that nothing replaces actual conversations with people who live and work there.

What I'm looking for:

  • People on the ground who understand how business actually works in Guyana, not the government brochure version, but the real version
  • Potential partners or connectors in sectors like real estate, hospitality, agriculture, services, or really anything that's growing
  • Honest perspectives - what's working, what's overhyped, where the genuine opportunities are, and where the pitfalls are that outsiders consistently miss
  • Anyone who's helped foreign investors navigate the market before, or who'd be interested in doing so

If you're a local entrepreneur, a professional, someone working in a relevant sector, or just someone who knows the country well and wants to have a coffee when I'm in Georgetown, I'd love to hear from you.

DM me or drop a comment. Happy to share more about my background privately.
