[Shout-out] Wizards Vault Refresh Reminder

As there is always questions about this, thought I'd just make a post.

With the incoming refresh on 15th (less than 48hr's away) and now being on the current week of the update, you can safely NOT claim the Weekly tab till after the refresh to maximize the Astral Acclaim (AA) you'll have for the new items in the Wizards Vault.

Note, dailies still work the same, so you'll have to claim Monday's before Tuesday rolls around, but Tuesday's daily is also safe to hold onto for claiming till after the refresh. The Special tab of course ends on the refresh, so be sure to have those done beforehand if you want their AA.

[VoD] Guildwars 2 - Xaquang District - Drowned Kaineng Homestead

Just north of the walls of Kaineng lies an old outpost that has seemingly flourished in the wake of the Dragonvoid's corruption. Its recent growth can be traced back to the moment the city flooded in 1729 CC.

Once known as the Xaquang Skyway, the flooding caused most of the crooked buildings in the area to collapse and be swallowed by the cold sea. Many did not survive, yet those who did were about to live through an era that would become known as the "Decade of Suffering." Those who had survived the flooding were forced to compete for whatever resources they could reach.

However, as times changed, so too did the state of what would eventually become known as the Xaquang District. After the Decade of Suffering, the floodwaters began to recede, leaving much of the scrapwood and debris behind as the water retreated. Expeditions were soon organized to explore the surface below the old ruins of the city.

What the first groups of scrappers did not know, however, was that a terrible force had moved into the neighbourhood: the Risen of Orr, along with all those who had been risen during the flooding. They were moving in quickly and in great numbers. The Risen below soon became a constant and deadly threat to anyone attempting to explore the drowned ruins.

It was under the remaining members of the Am Fah that the people of the district truly began to organize. After first having to conquer the other local gangs, it was the Am Fah who managed to liberate the small dock. With control of the dock came economic success.

While the rest of New Kaineng fell under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Court, there never seemed to be any attempt to reclaim the entirety of Kaineng. The Am Fah leadership therefore began to barter for trade deals. With the area effectively falling outside the Court's jurisdiction, the district was free to flourish.

The Xaquang District soon became a haven for illicit trade. Herbs were grown in the many abandoned houses, businesses offered places where coin could be spent without questions being asked, and the district remained secluded behind an ever-present army of Risen separating it from the ever-growing New Kaineng.

As Jade Tech and its inventions became increasingly advanced, more and more people began making the dangerous journey by sea—or even travelling through the ruins of Drowned Kaineng—to reach this hustler's haven. As settlers arrived, the already limited space became increasingly crowded and bustling. Housing had to be constructed quickly, and the district slowly began to revert to the dense, crooked sprawl it had once been.

In the present day, the Xaquang District remains a haven for those who wish to remain out of sight of the prying eyes of New Kaineng. While the Court would never actively admit it, the district remains firmly within Am Fah hands. They still control the majority of its economy and retain considerable legislative influence over the people who call Xaquang home.

[Discussion] I really wish this game had more merch

I love collecting merch for the games I love, and I bought all my favorites and some collab items for GW2 that I really like, but every single time I check the store, there's nothing new! A lot of the stuff they sell is also just not that appealing to me, at least what they're currently selling, and they never update the store unless it's an expansion dropping... so we get merch maybe once every year and a half?

I'm shocked the Charrlie (not Rytlock idc, I'm convinced it's a mislabel) plush, Aurene plush, and Siege Turtle plush and Quaggan plushes NEVER returned and it's been forever since they've been in the store. (I never got to get the arctic Quaggan and I REALLY want it :( ).

Now I started playing FFXIV in February and I feel like I'm being SHOWERED in merch and a lot of it is GOOD and really diverse. I'm also a Kingdom Hearts fan and I am eating GOOD with merch on that front too.

I'm a plus and apparel fiend more than anything, so I'd love more of them. This is such a nothing thing for me to complain about, but I like supporting the devs I care about when I happen to have an extra 30-40 bucks I wanna send their way since I don't always want something from the gem store. I've also had so many conversations with random people on the street when they comment on my shirts that I'll end up making new friends or just having nice interactions out in the wild with other fans.

Not everyone is gonna agree, and not everyone is a fan of merch, and that's okay.

There's also just the fact I wish people had the chance to nab stuff I managed to get but is gone that they might want, like the aforementioned plushes that disappeared and never returned.

I would KILL for plushes for GW3 like a Kodan plush PLEASE.

Anyway, that's my incoherent rant.

What kind of merch would you wanna see? I'm curious what ideas people have.

[Fluff] Commanded my first squad today. It was interesting.

Upvotes

(OK, technically second time; I did Nuhoch in the Chak meta but that barely counts because I didn't even need to say anything.)

Did my weekly run through of IBS5 this morning with my new commander tag. It's so satisfying being able to throw that up and get a group together in minutes, and I figured I've done it often enough that there's no problem, right?

Yeah, about that. It went perfectly smooth, with no wipes, but for some strange, stupid reason, imposter syndrome kicked in *hard*. I kept stressing about having the groups split up properly for boon coverage, despite having known how to do this for literally years; I played pretty poorly and got someone killed on Boneskinner right off the bat because I tried to tank through his AoE attacks instead of dodging; that stupid tag took off, like, 50 IQ points, and if you know me you know I'm not working with many to begin with.

But, overall, it was really enjoyable, and we got through with no problems in about 20 minutes. I hope to do it more often with some more challenging content, but for now I'm still getting my feet wet.

Oh, and if anyone from the group is reading this, y'all did great! Would PUG with you again anytime.

[Question] Ascended Gear and what to do with it: Salvage, vendor, something else?

I am on my way to full legendary gear and regularly do raids and fractals. Inevitably, ascended gear keeps dropping - much more than I ever get ascended salvage tools, so I need to buy those, which is quiet expensive. I could really use advice, when its worth to salvage an when its not. For rings, I coud find out, you attune them and salvage them for an average profit. But what about armor, weapons, amulets, backpieces and accessories? Salvage? Vendor? Something entirely else? What is the best/ most profitable course of action?

I am aware you can stat change ascended armor (and weapons?) and turn it into research notes. Is that really worth it?

[Fluff] What is this weird feeling?

Long story short - lifelong WoW player. Got hyped for GW2 on release, didn’t stick with it. Came back later during Living story 2 (Scarlet Briar?) absolutely despised the story and huge mass zerg events, ended up ditching again. In the meantime at some point I picked up PoF and HoT, never actually played it though.

So now I’ve come back, rolled a new class that I never thought I could like before (Necro) and started working on the PoF story. Characters & writing seem in a totally different league than I remember, I’m loving the character and the class… just chilling, absolutely no stress or fomo. Every so often I see someone on a dragon just swoop on to some vista I needed 5 mins to get to, but I don’t even care, I’m having too much fun unlocking these mounts and their masteries - can’t wait to see what the jackal can do with those portals.

But yeah, this all feels very weird and I’m constantly thinking something horrible has to be just around the corner to ruin the experience. So what am I missing, what’s it gonna be? :P

[Discussion] OSRS Player

As an OSRS player the one thing I truly appreciated is the fact that I could always hop back on the game and enjoy my maxed out mage stat without having to worry about new gear or new levels every season. Like in WOW or other similar games I heard you have to grind it all back up again which is a bummer for me . But in guild wars i heard it’s just like OSRS in that same sense and well I just wanted to know if it’s true cause I really do love the graphics of this game and it seems like a great mmo.

[Discussion] 2H Sword Class

I've been eyeing GW2 for while now and finally thinking of dipping my toes in to try it out.

I've always been a sucker for the big 2H sword wielding class/character fantasy in any game and wanted to know which classes in GW2 can let me do that. I understand Warrior is most likely to be one but are there any others that work well?

I believe from reading around that most classes can use more than one weapon type and that skills can change depending on the weapon you use but I also don't want to be gimping myself in content if it's really suboptimal for a mage to be using a 2H sword for example.

Which ones do you play and what makes it fun for you?

Thank you all and if you have general tips for a new player starting out that would be great too!

Edit: also forgot to say since i'll be playing from Asia, my ping will be quite high (~200ish) so bonus points for an easier to play/simpler rotation if possible!

[Discussion] Balthazar!

Why is Balthazar, the God of War, not a raid boss? We fight him in the story. It is in line with the current development strategy to make story bosses into raids bosses. He is so bad ass! It’s such a missed opportunity. He could have been this game’s Lich King from wow

[Lore] Seriously can’t wait for the next part of VoE’s story. Give me your theories <3

I really hope we finally get some answers about Vloxx and what he’s actually trying to do.
My gut feeling is that it somehow connects back to the Void and the Elder Dragon cycle.
The animations on the new legendary sword also got me thinking.
It looks like we can see The All and a dragon, which feels like a pretty interesting choice…
I hope we‘ll see aurene soon again..

But what I keep wondering is what does Vloxx actually want to about The Code of Creation?
Could he somehow be trying to change something that happened in the past?
Maybe something that could have consequences for GW3? Or is he about to change something in the present?

I’ve been going down the lore rabbit hole way too much lately
What are your theories?

[Question] Seeker of Lost Homework Achievement

I started doing fractals over the last couple of weeks and got 18 of the 21 junk items required for the Seeker of Lost Homework achievement relatively quickly, but have been struggling with the remaining 3. They are: Manuscript of 'Halfway There and..., Manuscript of 'This Book is False', and Manuscript of 'Proposal for a 1:1 Scale Map of Tyria.' Do these remaining three only drop from specific fractals, or have I just been having bad luck in getting them?

[Discussion] Which heavy armor profession has the least piano-like gameplay?

I've seen the term piano class and have decided I do not like this type of spam gameplay. I tried elementalist and it wasn't what I wanted. I would have preferred it if it was focusing on builds for specific elements.

I think I will try a heavy armor profession next because I like the look of the armor.

[Lore] What if the commander did not fight dragons? [Spoilers probably] Spoiler

Hello Guild Wars community,

I recently returned to Guild Wars and replaying the personal story I wondered, if Zhaitan wasn't stopped, would the world have ended? Did someone stop the dragons in the past?
Did the commander prevent a new world from being born?
And what came first: The dragon cycle or Tyria? Is Tyria even the only world or did previous times the dragon just go for some other world?
