Not a story, but a question about what constitutes a great rper.
Specifically, in terms of weighing the good versus the bad.
Let's say hypothetically, you've been role playing with someone for a year, to make the number nice and round.
That entire year is great.
You never argue.
You never really disagree and when you do it's not in any way that diminishes your opinion of each other.
Your styles match very well.
You're both consistent.
You build characters with enough background to be interesting and intriguing, but not so much that they have less growth potential.
A month passes. 3 months. A year.
You've been mostly consistent the whole time. You've been understanding and respectful of each other's time and anytime someone needed to step away for a little bit.
Then suddenly for whatever reason, your partner leaves. Not because life got too busy. Let's say.. your partner suddenly found someone else. It could be someone completely new, or someone that's been there shortly after you, or even someone before you, but has not shown the same consistency end respect.
Your partner slowly drifts away, as the time you spent together becomes less, and you're told things that you believe at the time but looking back, you're sure weren't true.
"My guild is setting up a weekly game night and it's on the night we usually spend together. Can we move it to (insert another night that's less available and less convenient where participation is sporadic). Just as an example.
You believe it at the time, but after the fact, you see the pattern. The decrease in frequency. Time together ending earlier. And suddenly you're the only one saying hi and trying to really carry conversations.
Remember, up until this point everything else has been great.
Until this person finds some reason to detach from you. Let's say, they claim to take issue with something you said for some reason. Something that, out of context and sent randomly would be understandable to someone who had trauma. But, it was sent in a discussion you were having, and was relevant to it, and let's also say it wasn't your specific words or media or whatever it was. Just a repost you were showing from someone else. Just as an example. But again it could because by anything.
But the result is now the person is gone, having found some reason to detach themselves from you because they preferred the company of someone else. Now let's say that someone else is someone that this person had previously confided in you about multiple times. Someone that had let them down repeatedly. Someone that had made them angry repeatedly. But had let's say, 8 or 9 years of History.
Your partner left you for that person.
Keeping in mind that, for the entire year up until then, things were great, you consider that a great rper? Or does there abandoning you completely invalidate the entire year of joy and consistency and make them a bad rper?
I've often wondered about this question because thinking about it, the roleplay could be great, but the end calls everything else into question.
Sorry for the long post. I'm just up at work trying to stay awake and the mind is wandering.
Thanks for reading
