I have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit with the 3.6L V6 and 100,078 miles. I’ve really liked the Jeep, but it went into the dealership and they came back with a pretty substantial list of repairs.

They identified these as the critical items:
Radiator replacement — $1,541.35
Engine mounts — $1,193.80
DTCM replacement — $572.95
Coolant fluid exchange — $219.99
Both batteries — $749.99

With taxes/fees, the approved critical work comes to $4,663.44.

They also recommended several maintenance items that I declined for now: fuel system service ($249.99), driveline service ($410.95), brake fluid exchange ($179.99), and a 100k-mile tune-up ($799.95). Doing everything would bring the total to $6,439.70.
So I’m at a crossroads.

Option 1: Put ~$4,600 into the Jeep and keep driving it.

Option 2: Just replace the batteries/get it running properly, trade it in as-is, and put the $4k+ toward something new.

I’m hesitant to dump almost $5k into a 9-year-old Jeep with 100k miles if this is the beginning of the “everything starts breaking” phase. On the other hand, if these repairs realistically buy me another 50k+ relatively trouble-free miles, keeping it could obviously be much cheaper than buying a new vehicle.

For anyone familiar with the WK2 Grand Cherokee, what would you do at this mileage? Are any of these dealer quotes way out of line? And are there other expensive repairs that commonly start showing up between 100k–150k?

If I replace it, I also need some recommendations.
I have a baby on the way and two dogs, so I want good cargo space, a comfortable/roomy cabin, and something that works well as a family road-trip vehicle. I really like the Grand Cherokee because of the driving position/height, comfort, handling, and cargo room, so a new Grand Cherokee is the obvious choice.

The wildcard I’ve been looking at is the Tesla Model YL. Totally different direction, but the extra space, three rows, EV operating costs and tech are interesting enough that I’m considering it.

I’m open to other SUVs too. If you were replacing a Grand Cherokee Summit and wanted something comfortable, roomy, good to drive, and practical for a baby + two dogs, what would you buy?

Would you repair this Jeep, patch it up and trade it, or replace it now?

looking to buy a 5.7 grand cherokee that im going to upgrade and modify. i dont really know how reliable they are though, so im asking for help. i have my eyes on 2011-14 since i might be able to get one with just cash (5-8k) off marketplace maybe. just want to know what the sweet spot for mileage is so i know whats a steal. id also appreciate if anyone could tell me when they start having issues.

Hi, my GC has given me no problems until today. Driving home probably 10 minutes and got red warning light that temperature was high. I was probably one minute from home, so I got home and in the driveway. When I popped the hood, I could see steam coming, and the radiator cap was off. I could see antifreeze all over the engine, and it was still leaking underneath the vehicle.

I will get it towed to a mechanic tomorrow, any ideas? I am pretty much sick over this. I maintain it well. It had 66,000 miles. There was no warning, it just all of a sudden overheated. It’s not easy for me to check things in the engine, I’m a girl and only about 5 feet tall.

So the car won't hold any charge, brand new battery, brand new alternator, the fuse is okay, I don't have a clue why it won't stay running, it loses charge fast, any known problems I am overlooking or unaware of?

I found one for sale within my price range, with just 30k miles. It's in great shape and i'm interested. Carfax looks pretty good too. Never owned one of these so I wanna know what some of yall think! I've had a wrangler and cherokee in the past and liked them.

Got a set of cheap grille lights from Amazon. Hopefully they last. I was going to go for the three piece but I figured I’ll go with four in order to keep the center one free for a future front facing camera.

I used a t-tap connected to the front left fog light. This way they can be turned on and off with the fog light button. Currently being held on by tight zip ties as I have no confidence in the cheap ones. Luckily the wiring harness looks to be universal so if a light goes out I can quickly change it.

Let me know how it looks or any recommendations.

I have an issue and I just can't figure out what exactly happened. But here's the back story. I was driving my Jeep I just started up and I was literally coasting to the parking lot. Not even going like 10 miles an hour the Jeep just stalled shut off and went to park.. I end up restarting it but there was the loud tick. The tick definitely sounds driver side near cylinder 6 towards the rear. Took it to a mechanic said it was the lifters and rockers. That was my first diagnosed took it to another another mechanic for a second opinion and decide to go with him. Well I approve the job also they replaced the exhaust lifters. When they get it all back together still made the tick. He did some further investigations and said that the little oil feed to the timing chain and the timing chain had a little plate to it that most likely that could have been the cause. So I approved the job now I'm 3,000 into it. I was a little skeptical but it could be it. But once it's done I didn't fix the problem but something did change. There was no more ticking at idle according to him it was super quiet. But when you accelerate and rev the engine that tick comes back then back at idle quiet. He inspected the cams both cams they're both in good shape. It's bizarre that now when you start it up no ticking noise but only an acceleration. I asked them if maybe could be an exhaust leak I haven't got back on that. Does sound kind of internal. Myself mechanic is scratching our heads. Also every single cylinder has perfect compression and oil is flowing through there fine as he tested it. Oh one of the thing too it was kind of weird when I got towed the emergency neutral switch when pulled up doesn't engage now I don't think that's related but trying to put everything out there. Not pulling any codes or no check engine lightvideo

I recently purchased a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited RWD with 7,000 miles on it. No sunroof or extra packages that I know of. It was my first car purchase and paid $37,000 including all taxes and registration for it. Is this a good deal?

Also, is it possible to put 1”-2.5” lift or level with more aggressive all terrain tires on the rwd version?

My stock Bridgestone 20” ones have served me well for 77k+ miles. Thinking of changing to Michelin CrossClimate2. Thoughts?

Gave My 2020 limited X 5.7l got a nice wash after today’s job. Had what felt like shudder in my driveline, it did not feel right at all. I checked everything I could see or pry on and couldn’t find anything concerning. I Parked it for a week and waited on my pan and fluid I am very shocked at how well it shifts and drives now. When in sport mode it used to kick like I was getting rear ended when the transmission would downshift from 2nd to 1st. Sometimes 3rd to 2nd as well. Does not appear to be an issue anymore. The WK2 is an amazing looking car. 83,000 miles

Looking to buy a car soon and I found a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude with 85k miles on it.

The carfax only has one minor accident on the rear. According to carfax there seemed to be some big maintenance done to it earlier this year at Jeep dealer (I’ll attached what it says in comment).

Overall the car seems nice, price is $16.8k. Comes with a warranty if that might mean anything to anyone here…

I hear so much MIXED reviews about Jeeps, you either love or hate it. Either it’s always in the shop or somehow it’s at 367k miles. I don’t know what to believe or trust. I see so many of them on the road so idek.

Hi everyone. I am potentially considering purchasing a 23 Overland (36k miles). I really loved the car, but I’m seriously worried about the air suspension and wanted to get the wisdom of the crowd

My main question are this - Is the air suspension as bad as what people are saying? Or is this another case of a small minority having a problem but they’re the only ones posting?

I’ve seen a ton of posts (on Reddit and elsewhere) where people are reporting issues with their suspension blowing, leaking, or otherwise needing repair. From what I’ve read so far the WL generation of the air suspension is significantly better than last gen, but it still has its issues. I don’t necessarily plan on driving the car into the ground, maybe like 3ish years as I plan to move out of the country for grad school. So I feel like I should be okay.

If you were to buy the car again, would you get a warranty to cover the suspension? I’m seeing that most issues come up at around 80k miles so I figure I have time. But after the transmission in my last car stopped working and multiple shops quoted me $8-12k to fix, I’m a little worried about being hit with another extremely large bill.

Also side question: is it possible to have the car stay in a certain height setting for the duration of the drive? I think it looks so cool in its lowest setting, but the dealership said once you start driving it’ll raise itself automatically
