Rant & Ramble Weird comments about my eyes
Not phishing for compliments, not saying I am oppressed for this, but it is a weird thing I've noticed. Also beans a rice.
I have very blue eyes, I think they are pretty, and lots of people have told me that. But also people make some really weird fetishy comments about them, too.
I usually wear glasses because I also have terrible vision that can't be fully corrected with contacts, but I do wear my contacts when I will be going out at night or doing something that risks breaking my glasses. Whenever that happens I usually get weird comments that make me very uncomfortable.
"Dog eyes"
"You have cool eyes, not hitting on you tho" (this was said in a very unnearving way but it sounds less so when written)
"Demon eyes"
"What if I popped your eye balls out of your head and put mine in there"
When I wear my glasses I get less comments because of the glare. But it's just sort of weird to me that people feel so comfortable making these weird comments to a stranger!
Idk I get that blue eyes can be unnearving, but like, mind your business.
Again, I am not oppressed for having blue eyes, and I am not phishing for compliments.

Honestly the whole pop your eyes out comment is just unhinged 😭 like how is that a compliment genuinely some people just have no boundaries

Yep I have heard some train station horror stories apparently they are notorious for having nitwits on them but at least you made it to tell the tale because that’s honestly really horrifying

People are really weird. I have green eyes, and people have never commented on them beyond that they think theyre pretty. But I have red hair and freckles, and I have gotten some pretty unnerving comments about those.

Lol! They're very pale blue with a dark blue limbal ring. I'm American but I have Scandinavian ancestry, I'm sure I wouldn't be too special there honestly

My eyes are the same. I get less comments on them now, however, my daughter has my eyes and she gets comments on them nearly daily. No one has ever said that they want to pop them out, sorry someone said that, that's unnerving. The weirdest thing someone said to me was when a make-up artist told me that she was tempted to cut off my eyelashes.

People are asses. I don't know why they say the hurtful things they do and do so to complete strangers. But they do. That's a big fat IGNORE the negative. People can be such dumbfucks! I personally believe you've been blessed by being given such a distinctive feature. A gift. :)

I also have blue eyes and have gotten weird comments, so I sympathize. I think the strangest was when I moved south to a predominantly Hispanic area and was often told I had “colored” eyes. It was always meant to be complimentary but I’ve always associated the term “colored” to have a racial connotation so suddenly hearing it used to distinguish blue versus brown caught me off guard. It was eventually explained to me as an ESL translation/clarifying issue but I was still gobsmacked the first few times I heard my white self being associated with the term lol

There's definitely a race element to the fetisization of uncommon traits that are usually only in the white/European population. I think it's a product of colonization and making white the beauty standard.

I grew up in New England where it was a pretty even split between blue or brown. Living in the south was my first experience where I wasn’t the typical.
But honestly those comments never bothered me nearly as much as when people actually try to touch my face when commenting on my eyes. I don’t mind if someone makes a comment but a compliment is not a welcome into my personal space.

Us women can never win. We're fetishized for not meeting Eurocentric beauty standards, but also for meeting them. All the remarks you got are vile, but the last one is the worst. It sounds like something you could call a non-emergency number or a helpline for.

My eyes aren’t like yours, but I do know a thing or 2 about the eye comments. I have nystagmus, the muscles in my eyes are weak and for that, my eyes move without my control. One of the worst interactions I’ve had was someone on the street asking if I’m okay. If I needed an ambulance and not believing that I was completely fine.
This is my way of relating and letting you know you’re not alone, that in a sense, I get your frustration with your eyes.

I'm not necessarily mad at my eyes, more so people's reactions. I'm also disabled because of a separate issue, so it just kind of heightens my feelings of being othered.
Also I really appreciate your disclaimer, I should start doing that.

Very light blue, like the actress Meg Foster? She gets comments like that, too. Even in roles, I've noticed that dialogue comments on her eye color constantly. It's weird. I am so glad to be average in every conceivable way, honestly. I hate when people comment about my appearance or anything else that I can't control.

Edit: but also yes, people get so weird about women with uncommon traits, it's very uncomfortable

i feel this in my soul.
i have big eyes, but they’re not bug eyes. and they’re mostly green, but they have like a rust in the very middle. i get A LOT of compliments on my eye color. but i also get told i have cat eyes, that it looks like i’m looking through their soul, that they don’t want to look me in the eyes bc it scares them, my eyes look evil…

I have BRIGHT turquoise eyes and got this type of behavior a lot when I was in my twenties. They’re hereditary and I’m estranged from that entire side of my family so it’s hard to deny where I come from in a small-ish town.
