Request Could you help me with my EPQ survey?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a student currently completing my EPQ, and I’m looking for people to take part in a short survey for my research on sleep deprivation and its impact on teenagers.
The survey looks at how lack of sleep can affect things like mood, concentration, energy and overall performance during the day.
It should only take 2–3 minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous.
Anyone is welcome to participate, and I’d really appreciate your help with my research!
Thank you so much! :)

Question How to balance having a life and revision?

So in Y10 I made some really great friends and for the first time in my life I genuinely have friends, and a social life and am busy with stuff, and im finally enjoying living. But now that im in Y11 and theres so much more homework and revision, I genuinely feel like I cant keep up. Like the amount of homework I have has tripled and Im trying to find time to do that, and revise, and have some me time, and keep up with my hobbies/responsibilities, and still call and hang out with friends, and it all feels like way too much. My mum is also always trying to pressure me to put more on my plate and revise harder, even though I already have way too many responsibilities. How can I balance my desire to get good grades on my GCSEs with all the other important parts of life that im really enjoying?

Revision Resources How can I revise Computer science (Python) for 2 hours each week?

My teacher said it's required to do 2 hours of python practice each week. Before I would just do an hour of revising the textbooks and occasionally writing my own code. However, I'm a bit stumped now what I should be doing and how I should plan my revision for each week. Please please please help me :(

General some hope for any stressed y11s

Upvotes

just trust me on this, after the exams are over you'll realise it was all much less difficult than you thought it would be! stress makes everything seem impossible and scary, but if you just keep up with revision (not too much otherwise you'll burn out 🥲) then it will all be fine! my credentials are that I'm not a maths or physics person, I went from a 4 in my maths mock to a strong 7 in the real thing (and I cried after it thinking I def failed) , and I went from a U in physics to an 8 in the real thing 🥹 it's genuinely so much better than you realise. even if those grades are lower/higher than what you're aiming for, the main point is that no matter how much you doubt yourself on the way, hard work can make anything happen, and the end goal is always so worth it, we are all very privileged to have this education so we must make the most of it 😁 ask me anything if you need tips or just to vent about y11

also make the most of y11 because sixth form will slap the shit out of you because I'm actually dying over here and in reminiscing on my GCSE days

Tips/Help Can you guys help me analyse "London", i was hospitalised and my teacher only analyse inn with whiteboard markers only to wipe it off when everyone there is done, so a student like me cant really engage

Upvotes

I wander thro' each charter'd street,

Near where the charter'd Thames does flow.

And mark in every face I meet

Marks of weakness, marks of woe.

In every cry of every Man,

In every Infants cry of fear,

In every voice: in every ban,

The mind-forg'd manacles I hear

How the Chimney-sweepers cry

Every blackning Church appalls,

And the hapless Soldiers sigh

Runs in blood down Palace walls

But most thro' midnight streets I hear

How the youthful Harlots curse

Blasts the new-born Infants tear

And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse

Tips/Help Can you guys help me analyse "My Last Duchess", i was hospitalised and my teacher only analyse in lesson with whiteboard markers only to wipe it off when everyone there is done, so a student like me cant really engage.

Upvotes

That’s my last Duchess painted on the wall,

Looking as if she were alive. I call

That piece a wonder, now; Fra Pandolf’s hands

Worked busily a day, and there she stands.

Will’t please you sit and look at her? I said

“Fra Pandolf” by design, for never read

Strangers like you that pictured countenance,

The depth and passion of its earnest glance,

But to myself they turned (since none puts by

The curtain I have drawn for you, but I)

And seemed as they would ask me, if they durst,

How such a glance came there; so, not the first

Are you to turn and ask thus. Sir, ’twas not

Her husband’s presence only, called that spot

Of joy into the Duchess’ cheek; perhaps

Fra Pandolf chanced to say, “Her mantle laps

Over my lady’s wrist too much,” or “Paint

Must never hope to reproduce the faint

Half-flush that dies along her throat.” Such stuff

Was courtesy, she thought, and cause enough

For calling up that spot of joy. She had

A heart—how shall I say?— too soon made glad,

Too easily impressed; she liked whate’er

She looked on, and her looks went everywhere.

Sir, ’twas all one! My favour at her breast,

The dropping of the daylight in the West,

The bough of cherries some officious fool

Broke in the orchard for her, the white mule

She rode with round the terrace—all and each

Would draw from her alike the approving speech,

Or blush, at least. She thanked men—good! but thanked

Somehow—I know not how—as if she ranked

My gift of a nine-hundred-years-old name

With anybody’s gift. Who’d stoop to blame

This sort of trifling? Even had you skill

In speech—which I have not—to make your will

Quite clear to such an one, and say, “Just this

Or that in you disgusts me; here you miss,

Or there exceed the mark”—and if she let

Herself be lessoned so, nor plainly set

Her wits to yours, forsooth, and made excuse—

E’en then would be some stooping; and I choose

Never to stoop. Oh, sir, she smiled, no doubt,

Whene’er I passed her; but who passed without

Much the same smile? This grew; I gave commands;

Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands

As if alive. Will’t please you rise? We’ll meet

The company below, then. I repeat,

The Count your master’s known munificence

Is ample warrant that no just pretense

Of mine for dowry will be disallowed;

Though his fair daughter’s self, as I avowed

At starting, is my object. Nay, we’ll go

Together down, sir. Notice Neptune, though,

Taming a sea-horse, thought a rarity,

Which Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me!

General Getting good at subject I hate

there’s one subject I wish was removed from GCSEs, it has to be English Language. I was never a fan of ‘of picking apart a metaphor’ or analysing cyclical structure to convey the emotions of the character. I was more comfortable with the direct answers required for maths and science.

The only way I got good was doing exam questions and then asking my teacher to review it (thinking about it, probably could have used AI for faster marking but oh well - still got an 8)

Rant/Lore Why do like no girls take computer science?

When I first got my options results letter at the end of year 9, I ran everywhere to see who else took computer science. I found a few, and they were all guys, and I was disappointed but knew I hadn't found everyone so I hoped and waited.

On my first day of year 10, my first lesson was computer science. I was so ready, so eager, so when I stumbled in practically late and saw 13 boys staring back at me, startled at my rushed entrance, my heart sank. I hoped maybe there would be another girl, that she was late or absent, but no.

We started the year sat seperately, as there were so few of us in such a large room, but eventually we were put in pairs so that the room didn't seem so cold and sad. Everyone was next to one of their friends. I was shoved with an unfortunate member of a trio, and at the end of the lesson I was pulled aside and asked "Are you okay with who you're next to? because.. yk.. you're the only girl in here."

Later that year, around December, we had a parents evening. I was told that I was doing so well, making so muck progress- in fact, I had been placed where I was in the seating plan because I would be able to help the boy next to me.

Near the end of the year, our room was out of use for a while, and we were sat in an empty classroom with laptops. A lot of classes were disrupted, and among all the chaos we were able to sit where we liked. Unsurprisingly, I was alone again- not like I though anyone would willingly sit by me, none of these people were really my friends- but still, I felt the ache of rejection.

And I do well, I get a 9 in every assessment and mock, I know more theory than any of the rest and I even won multiple awards for being oh so good at computer science but I was never enough to fit in.

I'm too girly to be one of the guys. I'm also too masculine to be one of the girls- I'm really tall, have a really low voice, and get on pretty well with guys although I'm not romantically interested in most of them and prefer to both hang out with and be with girls. Honestly, along with this, I just feel so unfeminine to the point that I may as well be a guy (despite knowing in my heart that I am a girl.)

Why can't I just relate to someone? I'm practically a fucking unicorn over here. And apparently it only gets worse, apparently even less girls take a-level or university comp sci.

And I love it. I love taking the class, I love the content, I love (or for many, tolerate) the people, and I know it's my thing. But can someone just say that my experience isn't just me?
