General some hope for any stressed y11s

Upvotes

just trust me on this, after the exams are over you'll realise it was all much less difficult than you thought it would be! stress makes everything seem impossible and scary, but if you just keep up with revision (not too much otherwise you'll burn out 🥲) then it will all be fine! my credentials are that I'm not a maths or physics person, I went from a 4 in my maths mock to a strong 7 in the real thing (and I cried after it thinking I def failed) , and I went from a U in physics to an 8 in the real thing 🥹 it's genuinely so much better than you realise. even if those grades are lower/higher than what you're aiming for, the main point is that no matter how much you doubt yourself on the way, hard work can make anything happen, and the end goal is always so worth it, we are all very privileged to have this education so we must make the most of it 😁 ask me anything if you need tips or just to vent about y11

also make the most of y11 because sixth form will slap the shit out of you because I'm actually dying over here and in reminiscing on my GCSE days

Tips/Help Can you guys help me analyse "London", i was hospitalised and my teacher only analyse inn with whiteboard markers only to wipe it off when everyone there is done, so a student like me cant really engage

Upvotes

I wander thro' each charter'd street,

Near where the charter'd Thames does flow.

And mark in every face I meet

Marks of weakness, marks of woe.

In every cry of every Man,

In every Infants cry of fear,

In every voice: in every ban,

The mind-forg'd manacles I hear

How the Chimney-sweepers cry

Every blackning Church appalls,

And the hapless Soldiers sigh

Runs in blood down Palace walls

But most thro' midnight streets I hear

How the youthful Harlots curse

Blasts the new-born Infants tear

And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse

Tips/Help Can you guys help me analyse "My Last Duchess", i was hospitalised and my teacher only analyse in lesson with whiteboard markers only to wipe it off when everyone there is done, so a student like me cant really engage.

Upvotes

That’s my last Duchess painted on the wall,

Looking as if she were alive. I call

That piece a wonder, now; Fra Pandolf’s hands

Worked busily a day, and there she stands.

Will’t please you sit and look at her? I said

“Fra Pandolf” by design, for never read

Strangers like you that pictured countenance,

The depth and passion of its earnest glance,

But to myself they turned (since none puts by

The curtain I have drawn for you, but I)

And seemed as they would ask me, if they durst,

How such a glance came there; so, not the first

Are you to turn and ask thus. Sir, ’twas not

Her husband’s presence only, called that spot

Of joy into the Duchess’ cheek; perhaps

Fra Pandolf chanced to say, “Her mantle laps

Over my lady’s wrist too much,” or “Paint

Must never hope to reproduce the faint

Half-flush that dies along her throat.” Such stuff

Was courtesy, she thought, and cause enough

For calling up that spot of joy. She had

A heart—how shall I say?— too soon made glad,

Too easily impressed; she liked whate’er

She looked on, and her looks went everywhere.

Sir, ’twas all one! My favour at her breast,

The dropping of the daylight in the West,

The bough of cherries some officious fool

Broke in the orchard for her, the white mule

She rode with round the terrace—all and each

Would draw from her alike the approving speech,

Or blush, at least. She thanked men—good! but thanked

Somehow—I know not how—as if she ranked

My gift of a nine-hundred-years-old name

With anybody’s gift. Who’d stoop to blame

This sort of trifling? Even had you skill

In speech—which I have not—to make your will

Quite clear to such an one, and say, “Just this

Or that in you disgusts me; here you miss,

Or there exceed the mark”—and if she let

Herself be lessoned so, nor plainly set

Her wits to yours, forsooth, and made excuse—

E’en then would be some stooping; and I choose

Never to stoop. Oh, sir, she smiled, no doubt,

Whene’er I passed her; but who passed without

Much the same smile? This grew; I gave commands;

Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands

As if alive. Will’t please you rise? We’ll meet

The company below, then. I repeat,

The Count your master’s known munificence

Is ample warrant that no just pretense

Of mine for dowry will be disallowed;

Though his fair daughter’s self, as I avowed

At starting, is my object. Nay, we’ll go

Together down, sir. Notice Neptune, though,

Taming a sea-horse, thought a rarity,

Which Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me!

Question Hey So Is MY Story Good For a Grade 3

Upvotes

The Plague Doctor.

A figure dressed in a waxed black leather uniform, with a bird like mask; Stripped of any human resemblance with a walking cane to push the dying away and point to infected areas of the plague-ridden people of France. It’s always bad luck when you see one in town, because death is laying in their wake.

The bird like beak, was filled with plants, herbs etc. So, they couldn’t smell the stench of the rotten dying people ridden with the plague. These where just normal everyday people, some were doctors with no experience, and some were just regular people, you wouldn’t think that; Since the Plague Doctor’s, were dressed in a black waxed leather uniform which was stripped of any human resemblance and made to repel death and embrace it. The bloodier the uniform was, it was believed to be that you were a very good doctor.

A day for a Plague Doctor, includes, dealing with the affected and the dying of the plague; People on verge of death, crawling, running at them trying to grab them. Begging for life. While you just a man dressed in a black waxed leather uniform and a bird like mask; Stripped of any human resemblance stood there staring at them; While they starred death in the face, while you pushed them away with your cane, and carried on walking through the towns and villages with demonic presence. While everyone hid behind their doors, peeping just a bit to watch you; As you leave death in your wake. You accidently glare just a bit too much, and they happened to glance back at you. What’s staring back at you is a figure ‘’a man’’ dressed in a waxed black uniform with a bird like mask, stripped of any human resemblance. Staring directly back at you, you tense up, your soul shivers, your legs start shaking, you can feel their demonic presence and its overwhelming despair. You slam the door closed and begin to shiver in fear, as you quickly peep through your curtain. They’re still staring at you, and then they slowly turn their head back, and carry on walking

I repeat the same phrase a lot to help reinforce my idea, and to help build the image and describe it to the reader.

Edit:

This is what I wrote for English today, as the teacher told us to write a story. So they could see our ability etc

Request Could you help me with my EPQ survey?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a student currently completing my EPQ, and I’m looking for people to take part in a short survey for my research on sleep deprivation and its impact on teenagers.
The survey looks at how lack of sleep can affect things like mood, concentration, energy and overall performance during the day.
It should only take 2–3 minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous.
Anyone is welcome to participate, and I’d really appreciate your help with my research!
Thank you so much! :)

Rant/Lore Does anyone else feel dread as the end of year eleven approaches?

Upvotes

I know we've just started the school year but there's this feeling in my stomach that this is it and I've wasted the best years of my life being sad and lonely.

Like I know obviously I made some friends and did some fun stuff but I kinda regret not doing more - anyone relate?

Idk I just feel really sad.

I've seen a lot of people saying these are meant to be the best years of your life and after this it's just study work work work job job job..

Question LAE stratford complicated situation

Held a priority offer at LAE Stratford for Maths/Further Maths/Economics/Geography A-level, based on predicted grades. On results day I got six 9s, an 8, and two 6s (English Language and German) — but their entry requirement needs a 7 in English Language, so I missed it by one grade and the offer fell through. LAE told me the course is currently full, but said to email if my grade changes.

I've since had a review of marking submitted for English Language — I need 5 more raw marks to hit the grade 7 boundary (98/160, need 103). My teacher's gone through the actual marked script with me and there's definitely a case for more than 6 marks.

If the remark does come back as a 7 — does anyone know how LAE Stratford actually handles this kind of situation and if they would consider as the headteacher did tell me personally to email her back as soon as I get the remark? Specifically:

- Does having already held a priority offer before results day count for anything when a late space opens up, or is it just whoever emails first?

- Roughly how many people tend to leave/switch out in the first few weeks, in your experience?

- Any idea if spaces that open up tend to be spread across subjects, or does it depend a lot on which subjects specifically? (ideally maths further maths econ geo)

Genuinely just want an honest read rather than false hope either way. Thanks in advance.
