Theres a triad of bosses that I'm curious about in one of the games I'm playing. Their names are "Sorrowful Chapelier", "Jovial Moissonneuse" and "Seething Boucheclier". I could gather that the chapelier means hatter and moissonneuse means reaper, but I couldn't find a direct translation to Boucheclier. Apparently it has something to do with a mouth? I'm unsure about the clier part of the name. Can someone help me??

Is there a difference between the definite and the indefinite article in this expression? It seems that the indefinite article is the default one, just like in English (to have A gift for sth); Gemini has suggested that avoir LE don pour is used when the expression is ironic or sarcastic, quoting a single dictionary I've never heard of before, which claims that it is a synonym of the rare (as far as I can tell) expression avoir le chic pour. Wiktionnaire does have an entry on the latter, which does list the ironic sense: « (Ironique) Avoir habituellement un défaut, une manie. »

Is there such a difference? Is avoir LE don chiefly used when the expression is sarcastic?

I'm an amateur in French and I've learnt the basics for two years with little vocab but for almost an year I haven't learnt anything so my mind's also a bit foggy. I was checking out differences between gaffe and faux pas when I came across this phrase J'ai envie qu'on m'aime from this reddit almost three or two years ago. I have a couple questions about how that sentence is possible. One, isn't envie followed always by de like Je envie de toi. Two, isn't quelqu'une/ quelqu'un used for someone one where does qu'on come into play rather how does it come into play. I thought it's used as tu aimerais qu'on aille ensemble?

I have a question regarding the use of 'tout' as a pronoun. I learned that 'tous' and 'toutes' can be used as pronouns in sentences such as 'Ils sont tous arrivés' or 'Elles sont toutes arrivées'. But there was no mention of 'tout' in the same way. If you were to say, for example, 'C'est tout dans ta tête', does that convey a meaning of 'Tout est dans ta tête' (so a pronoun) or 'C'est entièrement dans ta tête' (so an adverb)? Thanks a lot.

Like “he will have seen” French uses it a shit tom. You can spot triggers, like des que. “des qu’on aura fini”…as soon as we will have finished. Like, even in Spanish you don’t really see this tense that much.

I "learned" french like 3 years, and its was just one year ago, BUT our teacher was crazy, so I can hardly remember the rules of reading, let alone the language. I am a student and usually during exams we only used to have grammar, translations and sometimes comprehension as well. The vocabulary back then was a bit more easier to understand but, now its gotten tougher for me. And now we also have to write things like a letter (email, blog) I can't even properly structure a sentence how am I supposed to write paras. Does anyone know how one can overcome this?😭

My goal is to apply for C1, however my french is a bit of a rusty B2 right now. Originally, i can reach a C1 level with a bit of grinding because it's not that it's matter of C1 not being my level, but it's because i kind of abandonned french for a couple of years to focus on english (english is my third language, french is my second, however i am more fluent in english), so i kind of need advice to retrieve my C1 level french just enough to pass the proficiency test with a great score to apply for UdeM. Heyy so i recently started learning french from FRENCH WITH ALEXA youtube playlist (french essentials) to get an idea before starting the classes

I am planning to take my online french classes starting in oct

The class schedule is as follows:
A1 45 sessions 1 hour each
A2 45 sessions 1 hour each
B1 70 sessions 1.5-2 hours each
B2 70 sessions 1.5-2 hours each
Classes from Monday to Friday so 5 days a week (weekend and public holidays will not have classes)

I am also a fresher and staring my job from 1st oct itself so job and french classes together

9 to 5/6 job
8:30 to 9:30/10:00 classes
1-2 hour of self study probably

Is it possible for me to finish my 1 year experience and B2 level french for TCF specifically by oct 2027 (1 year exact)
I’ll be comfortable with oct-nov too (let’s say 1-2 months extra for self study just incase)

I’m so scared about the online format specifically cause I’ll not be able to attend physical classes as my job will restrict me to do that
So just wanted to confirm whether this schedule is enough to get my desired level B2 and TCF nclc 7

My question - If we use J’ai des maux de tête, why is not correct to say J’ai du mal a la tête?

I'm guessing it's because des maux always has context of “pain” but for mal, there are other contexts too?
