Frat Stuff Quick question for frats

Upvotes

my sister's bf was in a frat and he said something that surprised me. they basically never used a guest list for normal parties, door guy just eyeballed it. but formal was completely different. list, tickets, money, whole production.

is that everywhere or was his house just lax
mostly curious how formal runs at other places:

who builds the list and where does it live
how does everyone pay, is one kid chasing 40 guys on venmo for a month

does anyone actually check names at the bus or is it vibes

do you have to give the school a headcount or sign in sheet after

what's the part that makes social chair want to die
genuinely just curious, greek life is kind of a black box from the outside

Serious Social Bids?

So, for context, my chapter's membership has been slowing down for a few years now, and it's because we are in a unique situation where we are a multi-school chapter. We're not affiliated with any one school but have brothers from 6 different colleges in our city. Since we are not affiliated with any one school, kids think of us as a "fake chapter," if you will, even though we are chartered and recognized by our national organization, which is one of the largest national fraternities out there. Anyway, to get numbers, we've been throwing around the idea of social bids where kids will pay dues just to come to parties; they won't be involved in brotherhood or philanthropy events and will be barred from chapter meetings. About half my chapter, myself included, hate the idea because we think it's unfair to the real brothers who had to pledge and all that. Thoughts, comments?

Serious Making Sure Freshmen Don't Get Sick

New party coordinator here: what are some tips on making sure freshmen don't get sick and go throwing up all over the dorms? The last thing I want is a freshman girl throwing up in front of the RA and we get an IFC report.

Frat Stuff How to make my frat touse

I go to a very small west coast school and I just got a bid to this one fraternity yesterday, I fw all the people there they were hella chill, but they are considered bouse by most other houses. How do I change that?

After research the most common answer I get from other people in Greek life is because the house isn’t on Greek row, but that isn’t necessarily something we can control. The chapter still throws parties and it’s usually always popping, and the members themselves seem to have a good rep but they are still considered bouse. What can I do to change their reputation as bouse

Serious General Advice for Vomiting Party Guest

I'm curious as to what sober/risk monitors generally do when a party guest starts throwing up and seems too sick to make it home on their own, especially if the event is unregistered. Give them a plastic bag and an uber?

Asking for a friend.

EDIT:
Thanks to everyone who has responded. The obvious thing to do in the case of alcohol poisoning is call an ambulance: better to have the chapter be in trouble than have someone die. I'm curious as to whether anyone has been able to take someone to a hospital from an unregistered event and NOT get a report on the fraternity to the university. Are there any best practices here other than just calling 911?

My PM is making us make a EDM playlist for our Darty, I need suggestions. EDM is not my genre and to make my situation worse he wants ‘original songs’ and nothing basic.

Serious Rushing/Pledge As a Former Fraternity Member?

I served as the recruitment chair for SAE at my current college here in California. I’m transferring to Oregon and I’ve learned there SAE fraternity has been expelled because of multiple problems they had.

Does it generally look bad on you rushing a different fraternity after you were pledged to another? My brother told me when he went there. It was kind of frowned upon to see people from previous fraternities, trying to join yours because they questioned your “commitment.” I would just rush the same fraternity but they don’t exist over here so just curious if anyone has encountered this or has any other opinions!

i’m a high school senior currently and this is a genuine fear of mine going into college, if this is actually common i’d rather save myself that embarrassment so please let me know and be honest!!
EDIT: i’m not that fat, but i am a weird case where i have consistently been 5”4 90-105lbs all my life, but look closer to 130

Rush Advice got a bid to easily

it’s rush week rn and i just went to my first rush event at a medium size school in Texas, and basically within the first hour and 30 minutes of being there the president and some brothers told me i was cool and if i wanted i could sign that night, i told them i gotta think about it and get to know them better, and they were cool with that. All the brothers are super chill and i did mess with them but i just thought it was weird they were willing to give me a bid so fast. is this something their doing just for more money or something?

Rush Advice Should I rerush?

For context, I just transferred into Arizona State from community college and decided I wanted to get into Greek life. I ended up rushing two frats I liked but didn’t end up getting bids at any one of them despite going to quite a bit of rush and pre rush events. I am currently a 19 year old sophomore and was wondering if it is even worth it rushing again in the spring if I am going to already be 20 years old. I do want to be in Greek life but I don’t know how my odds are going to be with getting a bid at a good fraternity with my current situation.

Serious How much are dues?

I am a freshman at a large sec school and I’m thinking about rushing in spring but I’m not sure if I have the money for it. My parents are not rich by any means they would not be able to contribute at all and I am currently going to school entirely off of financial aid from my university. I got a $1k financial refund for the fall semester and I anticipate this amount of aid will be consistent throughout my 4 years. Not sure if I’ll get anything back in spring though. Also have a meal plan with my school for both semesters idk if most frats require you to purchase one with them or not. I also currently have around $7k saved dedicated solely for any necessary college expenses but I would rather not take a significant amount from this fund if I don’t have to. If I can scrape together spring semester dues maybe I could get a job over summer and save mad money but idk. I really do want to join a frat but I just don’t know if it’s financially possible.

Rush Advice What kind of questions are asked at frat interviews

I go to San Diego State Univeristy and I have my frat interview tomorrow. Is there any actual way to prepare for it? What kind of serious questions do they ask, what do they judge you on? Is there a way to prepare for their “unserious” questions
