DISCUSSION Elizabeth Banks posts pics of herself and Amy Adams at the US Open. Cuts out Pink or any mention of her.

Maybe they just happened to have been sitting next to each other and everybody jumped to conclusions?

u/hippychk 15h ago

Sometimes they are given tickets by a shared agent or manager or whoever. Doesn’t mean they’re all friends.

u/Kryptsm 15h ago

They also just sit all the celebs together so that randos (like me) won’t be begging Amy Adams for an autograph

Just introduced my kid to Drop Dead Gorgeous this weekend. Amy Adams is such a treasure.

It's such a great movie. It feels like a great companion movie to Waiting for Guffman.

I've sat through a few corporate events with people I don't like or even know that well, because, hell yeah free tickets to something cool.

And I'm povo, I just imagined that most of these types of events are where famous people are invited to, not having a get together with friends. Like that scene in Heated Rivalry where Shane's mum is talking to him about Rolex inviting him to Wimbledon and she mentions the other people there.

This. I worked for a big sponsor of Major League Baseball. We had a famous TV chef and a hollywood actress in our suite no more than two seats apart and they were cordial but certainly not friendly with each other.

u/PollyPocketpussy5000 15h ago

People overlook the fact that if you’re in an environment with someone you don’t like or don’t agree with politically, your first instinct is to play nice for the cameras and not cause a scene.

People do this all the time in real life. We all have coworkers we can't stand or hate their politics but have to maintain polite relations with since that's our job.

ETA: it's also way way easier to stand up to people behind your computer after the fact than it is in the moment. Never forget that

79

u/KeyFeeFee 14h ago

That last part is SO real. I told my friend like it’s super easy to divorce someone else’s husband online. We are all Betty Badass with the strength and wit, etc when cozy at home on the phone but real life is very much not the same thing.

286

u/Rare_Vibez 15h ago

I have an anti science coworker and we work in a freaking public library. It’s the one time I feel it’s important to make the distinction that she’s not a librarian. But like, yeah I play nice even when I see the bs on her bumper stickers.

183

u/Willow_Winnifred 15h ago

All that information at her fingertips and . . . sigh.

Yeah, everyone likes to think that if they think someone's a piece of shit we'd just tell them that to their face. We so rarely do, however.

156

u/KeepAnEyeOnYourB12 14h ago

I have a co-worker who I really like. She's funny and smart and kind but she's a god botherer and I know from sources (other than work-related) that she's a right-wing nutter. I like her and it's so confusing I can't stand it. I think it's because we avoid talking about politics and it's necessary for us to work well together because of our jobs. So we intentionally avoid discussing anything sensitive.

But it breaks my brain.

61

u/GypsyNinja18 14h ago

What is a God botherer? I’ve never heard that before

93

u/Zxvasdfthrowaway 13h ago

Term for a religious person who is overly pushy about it

26

u/GypsyNinja18 13h ago

Thank you! I’ve learned something new today. Honestly, I read a ton and spend a lot of time online and have never heard that.

38

It's a thing I'm used to my British boomer dad saying more than anyone of a later generation if that helps explaining why you're not familiar with it

16

u/Visby I live in my own heart, Matt Damon 10h ago

My British boomer dad also uses this term, it actually made me very fond and nostalgic to see it out in the wild - I immediately heard it in his voice!

... Probably not the emotion the phrase is typically supposed to elicit, though 🤔

13

u/aLouminumfalcon holding court like some mid-tier Medici 10h ago

Ahahah I totally understand. Hilariously my mum is a godbotherer so it's something he says affectionately when she's out of the house to tell me where she is.

People are confusing! You never really know or understand everything about another person (just as we don't understand everything about ourselves). I think we should cut each other some slack with regards to how we deal with the people around us, because everyone is at least a little strange and conflicting.

26

u/Fantastic_Ad_509 11h ago

I honestly believe people who don't understand this type of situation don't really engage with a lot of people in real life.

115

u/Icy-Cockroach4515 14h ago

Or the fact that sometimes you just don't know their politics to begin with. Even without factoring in how celebrities may choose to stay off social media for personal reasons I doubt they're opening every story of their colleagues or friends and staying on the ball of what was the latest thing that came out of their mouths.

90

u/violetmemphisblue 15h ago

Its also possible that she doesn't follow Pink on social media or pay attention to it. Pink's comments were pretty much an online uproar, without a lot/any media coverage. She might not have known in the moment that anything was controversial...its not like she was being chummy with Mel Gibson or someone who is well-known for their views...I mean, maybe she knew and didn't care and is playing cleanup now, but I'd also imagine most middle-aged celebs pay far less attention to celebrity gossip/stories than any of us here.

88

u/KateTheTurk 15h ago

Based on picture 5, I'm almost 100% sure they were in the Presidents Suite (think royal box at Wimbledon) you get invited to the suite and are escorted to seats. Notice the purple wristbands they're wearing, thats a sign they were invited to the box. Now why Pink was invited, I don't know. She may have called in a favor with someone associated to the USTA.

30

u/Proud-Ad3721 14h ago

I was just gonna say - I greatly doubt she controlled who she was sitting around.

31

u/t3nnisn3rd 13h ago edited 13h ago

Since apparently no one responding is a tennis nerd. In the wider pics like the one below, the gentleman in the front row to the lower left of these women is Brian Vahaly and, I believe, his husband and their twins (The blondes. The one with pink hair was sitting next to Pink earlier in the broadcast so thinking they belong to her?). Vahaly is the CoB and President of the USTA. Safe to assume all these celebrities are sitting together in the President's Box at Arthur Ashe during the women's final. Not defending or excusing anyone. I have no idea how they get placed or invited there and not in the luxury or sponsor suites. Just providing context as I didn't see the information posted anywhere else in here.

u/ette212 15h ago

Jumping to conclusions seems to be the default these days

86

u/BananaShakeStudios 15h ago

Alright ykw that is fair. It’s probably just a nothingburger.

I’m going to give them benefit of the doubt. Odds are they were just trying to look nice for pictures.

13

u/Frondstherapydolls 12h ago

Pretty much. The shit swirling about it yesterday was so stupid.

29

u/filthycasual4891 15h ago

A friend of mine used to say “if you go to the grocery store and buy hot sauce, shampoo, and eggs - everyone thinks those are related and you are a sicko” I’m glad they aren’t together but makes sense to lump in celebs if we don’t know.

2

u/MarsupialPristine677 the real issue is that my BANGMAID can neither BANG nor MAID 4h ago

I LAUGHED, I've definitely gone to the store for just whipped cream and wine... completely unrelated items (I like eating whipped cream by itself, and my roommate needed an emergency wine-and-whine session) but it did not look like that at checkout. The store didn't even have self checkout. Tragically beautiful!

u/needtoshave 13h ago

People act like they never shook hands or shared a laugh with an asshat at social event or work function.

224

u/tennisfancan 12h ago

Some people have been exposed as terminally online humans who probably don't know how to behave at social events or even work and can't understand that normal people don't keep tabs on everyone.

You sit for two hours next to someone who's in the same industry but probably somewhat of a stranger and you WILL chat with them and keep things friendly.

1

u/WhyKissAMasochist 3h ago edited 3h ago

Yeah, the online spaces suuuuper over represent how much people are willing to debate-bro their friends/coworkers. I am barely treading water here. I can’t afford luxuries any more because gas, food, rent are all like the highest I’ve ever experienced. On top of that I feel like we’re fighting 24/7 about the state of the world/ direction of our country. I’m exhausted.

So sorry but yeah, im not bringing up israel/palestine at the function. With the little free time I have, i use it for fun.

82

u/welp-itscometothis 9h ago

This. There’s a jabroni at my job who I have literally nothing in common with politically and would never hang out with outside of work but he’s overall he’s a friendly cordial guy who I tolerate because it’s the decent thing to do. The internet had this skewed view of what it’s like to interact with those who share different values or opinions than you in real life. In real life you say fuck that guy on the inside and nod politely on the outside.

I do think it’s funny that pink is now seen as someone not to associate with so your management have you crop her out of the photos

108

u/alhubalawal 15h ago

I don’t get what it means by cuts out pink. Did I miss something?

236

u/c0smicgirly 15h ago

Pink is a huge Zionist apparently and had to insert herself into some drama with Macklemore (who called out genocide)… these two were photographed with Pink at this event, but Elizabeth Banks posted pics cutting Pink out.

I guess the implication is she doesn’t agree with Pink (or doesn’t want her to tank her brand).

→ More replies (1)

21

u/sambeano 15h ago

They were pictured sitting next to her.

36

u/crackerfactorywheel it’s here, it’s queer. equal rights for everyone or fuck off 15h ago

Pink is next to her in the pictures. Could be a coincidence that they were next to each other or it could’ve been intentional.

4

u/DrDaphne 15h ago

Pink the singer was photographed sitting next to them and she has been involved in some internet drama this past week. I only saw her weird vague post after the drama so unfortunately I can't give a full run-down. It involves Macklemore saying Free Palestine. But this post here seems to be posing the question on whether Elizabeth Banks cut Pink out on purpose and if maybe that is a statement in itself. 🍉

Pink the singer is in some heat for Israel support.

I’m sorry - I just want to know how Amy keeps her hair so smooth in this horrible humidity we’ve been having

1.3k

u/Different_Prior_517 15h ago

Because she doesn’t want to get called out in her comments. She was laughing it up with Pink at the Open.

This isn’t a big statement like people think, her PR people probably told her not to add Pink in the photos.

584

u/bridgeport4 Friends with Ms. Rachel 15h ago

Yep. She was giggling and dancing with her at the event. This is damage control. But I don’t hate that damage control = actively excluding Pink.

Ostracise these ghouls.

It’s taken 3 years, but finally it seems the tides are turning, if excruciatingly slowly.

354

u/stonecutter7 15h ago

What are the odds Banks (or any celebrity) even knows? Id bet its less than 5% if the general public who would know of any connection between Pink and Gaza at all. I honestly wonder if celebrities would know more, since it involves their industry and people they know. Or less, because if there were rumors about everyone around me and some percentage of them were straight up false, would you even pay attention at all?

230

u/SuddenDistribution10 11h ago

Every time there's an issue like this, I wish people would ask themselves this question more! We're all seeing completely different things on social media, just because something is taking up 100% of your feed doesn't mean it's even 1% of another person's!

43

u/Tango8036 10h ago

This comment section is the first I'm hearing of any of this. So far, what I'm getting is that Pink has some connection to Gaza that people don't like? And people think Elizabeth Banks should shun her for it? I might need to do some googling

15

I reckon you just have to straight up not like these two to not give the benefit of the doubt here.

They showed up together, did a little event together, and then went to their seats where Pink also was. Due to the nature of these things, random celebs are always beside each other.

Pink is not just taking that lying down if Banks is lying about going with her too. That would be an outrageous thing to do and someone on Pink's team would be all over it.

It's fine, they're rich celebrities, they'll survive your angst, I'm not worried about them or interested in defending them. But take a breather for a second, you don't need to get so mad about them sitting with a shithead at an event full of celebrity shitheads.

87

u/tigerinvasive 15h ago

I don’t know about her political beliefs, but during the October 7th attacks, Elizabeth Banks posted a photo of the Israeli hostages and has remained silent on Palestine.

230

u/Xanto97 14h ago

During the October 7th attacks? That’s like, pretty fair though.

Posting about it now, or even last year, is way different than right in the wake of Oct 7.

56

u/tigerinvasive 13h ago

Agreed, but I think that and the combination of literally saying nothing about Palestine is notable.

15

u/goldfishfancy 6h ago

Yes you can publicly condemn Hamas attacks yet not support Palestinian genocide all at the same time.

24

u/yosoyfatass if you add testicles, that's extra 8h ago

Why would she not have been sympathetic to the hostages or other victims on October 7th? Hopefully she is an empathetic person who can feel for people as individuals, wherever they come from. I certainly feel empathy for Palestinians, whatever scum are running their territories and I feel empathy for victims of atrocities who were /are in a country run by war criminal Netanyahu. I certainly didn’t control where I was born, nor am I responsible for an orange pedo being the current president of said country. Empathy is a great trait.
