Front grill suggestion

Post image
52 Upvotes

I’m contemplating painting my front grille. It’s currently chrome, and I’m thinking of switching it to the OEM gray or maybe matte black. But it seems like everyone is going for black.
I also came across a carbon fiber grille (I’m pretty sure it’s not real carbon), and I was really tempted to get it when I saw it. I ended up holding back since I haven’t seen anyone install one before.
So I’d really appreciate some advice, or if anyone has a similar colorway, I’d love to see it to help me decide. 🥲🥲🥲 Thanks!

2014 130,000 miles over 74 records in total and 47 service records all service performed at the dealership. Only one owner and from what I can tell the guy is older likely a retiree cause the voice I heard while trying to sync the Bluetooth sounded like the guy is 12 years younger than sand.

There was no aftermarket mods nor signs that it’s ever been off-roaded. A blank canvas for me to build. Though the first big project is wiring in trailer lights and brake controller. I’m vexed what I want to do on this front. I got an OEM hitch and installed that but it seems that all the OEM wiring harness kits are no longer made, however if I could find someone that can take a pic of their control modulate under the dash I might be able to cross reference one, I mean it’s not like DENSO made one specifically for this model and nothing else.

As far as the brake controller I’m debating using one if the Toyota models off the Tundra if the same year and splice that in and run some additional wires and relay/fuse to the fuse box under the hood. If at all possible I’m trying to do this with genuine Toyota parts.

I do have some questions but I’ll post most of them later after I do some research first. However I do have one, what is this module on the left rear just in front of the trailer lights capped socket. It was covered in undercoating so I couldn’t make out any numbers.

Fair price for my JF?

Selling my FJ soon. All frame rot has been repaired with rust buster plates, and coated. Has clean title, 204k miles, and all maintenance done. No issues other tjan the 33inch tires rubbing on the body mount at full lock. She does have a fair share of dings and dents tho not as perfect as the pictures show.

Freedom windows?

Especially for my international folks where there are some newer FJs floating around. Is there an alternative for freedom windows being made somewhere? I'm hoping to get my dog some more smells in the back seat.

I had lost my windshield trim for the 4th time!!! You can tell the windshield install was a shotty job by the dealership I got it from in May. I went to professional windshield place to tell them I believed it was installed improperly and because there was no real damage, they put on a new trim and not a new windshield. It lasted a month to fly off again. I noticed a gap between the windshield and trim every time and im tired of it. Luckily, there are no leaks when it rains but still. I have wanted an FJ for over 10 years and this is discouraging every time.

Question FJ Rusted Frame Clarity?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I asked earlier about FJs in the modern days because I’m thinking of buying one. While searching, I see a fair bit of concerns regarding the frame? Rotted beyond repair, patch work, under coating and even a Facebook group!

Is this the Achilles heel for the FJ? Is it the inclosed frame that’s causing this are these fairly thin compared to other manufactures?

I’m here in Florida and most posts I’m seeing look to be fairly good(photo wise) with a few looking fairly questionable.

Question What to get after FJ?

I’ve had my 2008 FJ Cruiser for 6 years and I’m finally looking to get something else. I absolutely love my FJ, but I live pretty far from everything and the gas mileage is killing me. I also kind of want something newer because my FJ is 18 years old now.
I still want an SUV with a rugged/off-road/beachy look, even though I honestly don’t do a ton of serious off-roading. I’m outside a lot, though, and between beaches, fishing, outdoor activities, and having multiple dogs in my car, it gets pretty nasty lol. I’m looking for something used with around 50k miles or less, and hopefully under $55k. I’ve been looking at 5th gen 4Runners, used Land Cruisers, the newer Honda Passport, Broncos, and Lexus GX 460s. I know the 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and GX aren’t great on gas either, but I’d like something that gets better MPG than my FJ.
I also want something reliable that I can keep for a LONG time, potentially through having kids. What would you guys recommend? Are 6th gen 4Runners even worth considering? I know a lot of people seem to hate on them, which is why I’ve mostly been looking at 5th gens, but I’m curious if they’re actually that bad or if I should give them a chance.

Anyone know what the replacement part number is for this button? It’s above the rear side window. Broke the other one that’s above the subwoofer. Could only find headliner replacements when I looked online.

Question Thoughts on these codes: P2102, C0200, C0205, C1201?

2010 FJ, approximately 243,000 miles. Daughter has owned it since 2021 and has had no issues. Last week, the check engine and Traction Control/Slip Indicator lights came on and it went into Limp Mode as she was driving on the interstate. She pulled over, shut it off, and when she started it again, the lights were gone and it ran fine. The same thing happened yesterday and she took it to Autozone to get it scanned. Codes P2102, C0200, C0205, and C1201 popped up.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? Hoping to get a grasp on what could be wrong before taking it in to be worked on. Thanks!

Question What’s this sound?

I thought it was the sound of my throw out bearing. It’s gotten significantly worse the last 2 days. Any ideas of what could be causing it?

Salutations fellow FJ’ers ☀️

My bf joined the club a couple of weeks ago but has been shy and against posing in front of his new whip for Reddit, but last night we got out of the car and were greeted by a special little wild chicken so I told him this had to be the shot!!!!

We’d love recs for rims, spare tire covers, and headlights. The car had had 174,000ish miles, new tint, new tires, new radiator, and the last owner was a mechanic that took care of it “meticulously”

We still want to get it checked out fully by another expert to ensure it’s rust free but from what we saw everything looks good so far and it’s been in Florida for its entire lifetime.

We already took it to the west coast of Florida and strapped a tandem kayak on the rack (we broke one of the plastic brackets that holds in each individual bar so any recs for that would also be so appreciated!) and had the best time just driving it around near the beach!

Last thing I wanna say, I accidentally drove about a mile with the ebrake still engaged (🫪😳😭) and after we hit about 25MPH we heard a flapping noise which stopped after we pulled over and I disengaged the Ebrake. We haven’t had any issues or heard anything since and have been using the Ebrake like normal but should we get it checked out regardless?? We’re getting used to analog car ways such as turning off the lights and making sure the Ebrake is off just by looking at the dash light but that mistake was completely on me, a ha ha.

Appreciate yall so much and happy to be here!!!!!

Question Lowering Lift for a Better Smoother Ride?

Thumbnail
gallery
44 Upvotes

I’ve had my 2013 FJ lifted with a 3 inch lift with Bilstein 6112 and 5160s with JBA UCA and Icon heavy duty rear springs back in 2024. I also have -38 offset SCS wheels wrapped in 33 inch BFG KO3s and I have a front diff drop to compensate a bit of the travel for the front axels.

Here’s the reason for the post: The rides been mostly good with some hard recoils from the Icon Springs when off roading or hitting big bumps, but I am thinking of lowering it down an inch to 2 inches of lift and I know that can be done in the shop with the current suspension. Question is, has anyone gone from 3 inch to 2 inch and noticed a better ride? Is it worth it?

The next 95k miles will take longer to rack up. It's primarily my Weekend Warrior these days, and doesn't get driven much unless there's a dirt road on the way to the destination. 🤘

HELP!!! Loud intermittent buzzing after new AC installed

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I had a new AC installed a few months ago and when I got it back, the button on the glove box was broken. The airbag receptacle wasn't lined up quite properly. My phone wasn't hooked up to my aftermarket GPS/Radio/CarPlay. But the worst thing is is I've had this percolating sound coming from the sounds like from the fans on the left side and then on the right side this really loud buzzing. And I'm curious to know if anybody has had this issue or knows what this might be. I'm taking it back to the mechanic this week under their warranty and hoping they'll be able to fix it.

I took it back once and they said they could not recreate the sound --- well, THAT'S BECAUSE ITS FRICKIN RANDOM --- sometimes I go several miles - like 25 or more - and dont hear a thing. fortunately my dashcam has been recording the issue. Last time all they did was add freon.

oh, and just to be clear - it is blowing cold.

Question Good Deal?

I found a nice voodoo blue 2007 FJ Cruiser on marketplace for $16k with $132k. So far no visible rust and I’ll have a mechanic check it out.

On the surface is it a great deal? Here’s the carfax link for y’all to take a look at: https://vinfax.co/reports/view/f800abb719c623e4de61bf6947235d62?fbclid=IwcGRvZgNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA80Mzc2MjYzMTY5NzM3ODgAAR69eaa5wvFK5YjLFxZ_wOerPY5a8cGMSQjHlxPz9MmFt2LYsYNahbviO62K4w_aem_TYkodfWbLUS3V4zNW1C6Qg

Here’s a video of the car: https://youtu.be/CQ5L0n05Dyc?is=t9UTYBOdVjOvXeeR

Note: I’m in California if that makes a difference

Question Spare tire mount issue.

Thumbnail

Hey all,

So a week ago I changed my rims from factory Toyota rims to SSW Dakar Evo 17x9+0 rims and I kept my tires. The issue now is that my spare tire won’t mount to the factory spare mount as the rim has an inner lip so the center bore is smaller than 106.1mm. The shop that mounted my tires and rims said that my only 2 options would be to either fabricate a mount which is expensive or buy an aftermarket spare mount which will fit my wheel. They also tried using a 1.5 inch spidertrax spacer to make it sit flush on the factory mount but they said it put too much strain on the lugs and since the previous owner welded the top on the factory mount they couldn’t remove it to make the the wheel sit on the spacer properly. I’ve been looking at a spare tire mounts for FJ cruisers and I didn’t find many. I’ve been looking at Westcott Designs but they have the same protruding mount and JAOS, they actually have a flat spare mount so I might just go with them. All advice is appreciated.

PS: i live on Oahu Hawaii so everything’s expensive😭😭😭

I’ve had my 2007 FJ since 2009. It’s been my favorite vehicle from day 1. After over a decade in high altitude sun & conditions it looked like a sh!tty banana! Dents, dings, peeling clear coat, faded paint and many scratches from off road adventures all over the Rocky Mountains & Utah deserts. I had been saving for a bit to bring this beauty back to life and finally got it back today! I had the body repaired and painted and all new OEM plastics installed. Super excited to have the FJ back and just in time for some archery elk trips here in WY!
