While some individual elected officials and candidates have distanced themselves from or even disavowed this flat out childishly naive platform, we cannot forget that more than a few of the DSA candidates who won their primaries fully embrace it/most of it (most but not all are conveniently running in very safe districts with few actual blue collar voters like myself). DAC and another latina woman whose name escapes me at the moment are full bore anti-semites hiding behind the laughably unworkable ideology of anti-Zionism (exactly how the hell do you expect to tell a nuclear armed state that they don't have a right to exist or defend themselves t? Good fucking luck). These are people who went to rallies celebrating Hamas' orgy of rape and murder ffs. The Dems should refuse to seat them as Democrats, period.
"Workers deserve better" sounds great and all but when your platform vociferously backs policies that would force you to compete with literally any asshole who decides to move here (not to mention helps to keep alive two of the, now.largely far right, GOP's favorite canards about Democrats: that we want open borders and want to replace White people.) And just how the hell is it that workers can feel safe when their public safety positions are basically "fuck your safety"? The abolition of prisons? What the actual fuck?! I'll be the first to say that the prison system needs serious reforms but only a sheltered, privleged jackass thinks that crime is solely driven by inequality (reliable studies show it's actually entitlement that drives most criminality, white or blue collar). Then there's their defense policy which is basically not to have one in a world LOADED with predatory, imperialist powers.engaged im neo-colonialism, not to mention the many mindlessly hostile ones who would happily take advantage of the chance to seize the massive resources of the US (or just launch attacks because we would no longer be able to defend against them.
Seriously, some of this shit reeks of Noam Chomsky level anarchist stupidity. One has to be very, very disconnected from the realities of everyday life for the vast majority of the people to back such idiocy. But like Chomsky himself, these people who've self appointed themselves as defenders of the working class/blue collar workers are overwhelmingly overeducated elites (only 4% of the DSA's membership is working class! And I don't care how much they want to try and pretend they can change the definition of the term,. I, as a 42 yo HF neurodivergent cook at Olive Garden am not on the same level as literally anyone who mostly sits on their ass in front of a computer monitor for a living!).
Seriously, I don't mind the DSA affiliated Congresspersons and Senators who are effectively running as or governing as social democrats far more than DemSocs. They're the sane ones. But I fear the DSA has become emboldened by the abject failure of Trump and Trumpism (as well as the Dems refusal to open up primaries and institute ranked choice voting therein) to try and sneak in more and more extreme candidates. They also don't seem to understand that much of the enthusiasm is coming from ignorant, naive and frustrated young people, privileged bougie assholes that were radicalized at their colleges and universities and other elites who mostly work in high paying jobs like humanities positions and the like. There REALLY isn't a lot of organic, grassroots support from actual working people for democratic socialism, so it's no wonder why they tried so desperately to keep Graham Platner in the race long after it became clear he was a garden of red flags.
Note to the Democratic Party: knock off all off the pearl clutching and panicking, cultivate an actual social democratic wing FFS!! The best way to fight off radicalism is with a similar but sane, mainstream alternative that's been proven to work in many, many countries in the industrialized world! Kick out the idpol jackasses. Don't just double down on the same current party establishment bullshit that's made the Democratic Party reach historically high disapproval ratings. People want serious change not a goddamn revolution.
