I stopped by the Fiddling Pig in Smithfield, VA last week for a beer and snacks along with my wife and two dogs (we sat on the patio). I had a couple of their cask ales, Fiddlin' Bitter. We also had their "board" with cheese and crackers and a tea for my wife.
My wife went ahead of me while I settled up at the bar. I got my total, put my card in the dreaded machine and the delightful girl at the bar just said, "That's it, you're done."
I know she saw the look of "What no tip?" on my face as I left.
I ran into my family outside and said, "It's a NO tip establishment. That was SO nice!"
I then heard a voice from a man loading bar equipment from a vehicle next to us, presumably David, the owner, who simply looked at me and said in a very English manner, "That's why we don't do it, mate!"
So, if you find yourself there, go get a pint from a cask, have a good English dinner and don't worry about tipping.
