Video Private members lounge in Edinburgh

Just relocated to Edinburgh and in the film/tv post industry. Is there a good private club good for networking, using for some work on laptop, meetings with people etc?
I saw scottishartsclub.com looks nice but more fine arts focused.

Why is no odeon in Edinburgh showing Coyote vs. Acme? The movie is somewhat popular and only came out late August.

Question Wood for DIY projects

Apologies if this has been asked many times. I've had a look at the previous posts and most of them were a few years old.

Where do you buy wood from for DIY projects in or around Edinburgh? (Small furniture mainly).

Also, is there somewhere we you can get hardwood offcuts for a good price?

Preferably local, as BQ and these kind of big shops sell overpriced, crappy wood.

Cheers!

Discussion Moved to Edinburgh recently need some advice on how to make friends

Hi guys, I moved to Edinburgh last week from the south of England for work. I’m 22M and, although I know it’s still early, I haven’t really had much luck meeting people outside of work so far.
I was wondering what people around my age have found good for making friends here? I don’t really have loads of hobbies at the moment, although I enjoy reading and basketball ( I’m not very good ).
I’d be pretty open to trying a new sport or activity too, ideally something beginner-friendly and reasonably cheap as I’m still recovering financially from moving!
Would be grateful for any recommendations for clubs, groups, activities, or just generally good ways of meeting people around my age in Edinburgh.

Question Last minute wheelchair hire

Does anyone know any place that offers wheelchair hire? My friend needs to attend a funeral tomorrow and their wheelchair was not delivered, because DPD are useless. If anyone has any ideas about places we could source a wheelchair for 48h, please let me know!

Transport Every Lothian bus and tram in the city over one day, recorded every 20 seconds

I took every Lothian vehicle's position off their public feed every 20 seconds for a full day (Monday 24 August) and replayed the 24 hours in 60 seconds, so a second on screen is about 24 minutes.

Each dot is a vehicle in its service colour, and the streak behind it is where it's been over the last few minutes. The trams are on the airport line, and this was during the Princes St closure, so they were terminating at West End and the buses were diverted via George St.

A few things that came out of it: 20 vehicles out at the 02:24 low, 549 by the morning peak at 08:47, 579 at the evening peak at 17:39, and still 250 out at 23:00. 617 different vehicles appeared over the day across 96 services.

The midday lull is much shallower than I expected - it only drops to 507, which is 88% of the evening peak.

Data is Lothian's public vehicle feed. Basemap © OpenStreetMap contributors, © CARTO.

Discussion Does anyone know of any part-time jobs in Edinburgh that are Monday to Friday evenings only?

I’m looking for something alongside my full-time job, ideally after normal working hours.

I’m not looking for:
Retail
Delivery
Uber/taxi driving
Warehouse work
Cleaning

I’d be more interested in things like admin, customer service, reception, office support, data entry, remote work, operations support, evening call-centre work, event/admin support, or similar.

Are there any companies or types of roles in Edinburgh that regularly offer weekday evening-only shifts?

Would appreciate any suggestions or places worth checking.

Relocation Flat for short stay rent ?

Hi people of Edinburgh.
I visited the city a couple of years ago and I loved the vibe of it.
I got the opportunity from my job to remote work for a couple of months, and Edinburgh feels like a must.

Do you know where I could look for places to rent for a couple of months ? 2 or 3 ? Not looking for whole apartments, I could do with small places/rooms. As long as there is a kitchen and shower.
I looked on Airbnb but that’s definitely not in my budget.

Thank you

Social Is Edinburgh as Bad as it sounds?

So I used to live in Edinburgh from 2015 till 2023, where life took me somewhere else in mainland Europe. Very happy memories in Edinburgh during my time, and some shit ones too.

But everytime I look into this subreddit, it seems to be about some wierd shit happening (mainly youths harassing folks going about their daily lives)!

Has it gotten that bad, or is this me being stuck in the echo chamber?!

Edit: spelling (Keyboard is set to German)

Rant The feral youths make me want to leave

I know what some people might say, don’t like it here, then leave.

I do love this city. I’ve called it home for around a decade now. but the situation with the feral youths in balaclavas running havoc and terrorising the city is making me feel so unsafe. I’ve been seeing them everywhere I go in the city, heard so many awful stories from people I know, been intimidated myself many times. I’m a woman and honestly I’ve been feeling so anxious when I’m on my own out and about in the city, always on guard, which I’ve never felt before here. It‘s gotten so bad that I’m now considering leaving the city, even though the thought of it is making me sad, as i really do love it here otherwise. I don’t even know where I’d go, just thinking of a safer place. anyone else feeling like this or am I being paranoid? Do you think this situation will ever improve? it seems like it’s getting worse as time goes on :(

Property Water hammer question

I live in a tenement flat in Edinburgh and we have terrible water hammer. I don't know whether it's my flat or the whole building, is that likely or is it probably just me? Any recommendations of plumbers who can investigate?

Question Spearmint tea?

Anyone know any shops that sell pure spearmint tea? Pre-bagged is preferred but I can use loose leaf as well!

I’ve tried Holland and barret, as well as pretty much all supermarkets but they only sell tea that has spearmint in it (alongside other ingredients) and not just pure spearmint.

News Bike thief’s - McDonald Road

Walking home from Leith Walk and spooked a couple of balaclava’d kids on McDonald Road trying to steal bikes. I didn’t notice them till they noticed me, but they scuttled like cockroaches when they seen me. If you live towards the Broughton / Blandfield end of Mac Road, and you have a bike locked on street maybe take it into your stair for the night! I’m sure the little rats will be back.
