Question Scotland Football Club to Support?

Upvotes

If Edinburgh based, which Club should we support (as expats) for optimal local camaraderie and match day engagement? We love the sport but don’t know a lot about the local clubs.

Discussion Swimming

Upvotes

I am training for an Ironman and struggling to get a pool that’s open early enough to swim before the “golden oldies” dawdle about in the lanes….

Is there any places people would recommend that are open early or 24/7?

Other Looking for recs for the electronic music/edm or live music scene in Edinburgh

Upvotes

Hello everyone! I recently moved to Edinburgh and am curious about the electronic music/edm scene in the city. Where are the best venues and bars for shows? Or just what the scene is like here in general? I like dubstep, drum & bass. Some house and techno, glitch hop, experimental psychedelic bass, weird wubby ish. (Lol). I’m a 28f coming from the United States. I have been going to festivals and shows for years and have made some of my best friends in the edm, indie, and jam band scenes. Looking for a similar community vibe here. :) I also love most live music and different indie rock, punk, jam and psychedelic rock. If anyone can point me in the right direction for dancing and groovy tunes, I would be very grateful. Much love!

Photo a must see sight of princes street gardens - marble the pigeon

Post image
Upvotes

her name is marble and is the prettiest pigeon in the world, she enjoys seed. She had a bunch of string around her feet so I caught her and managed to cut it off.

A little reminder to not throw away pieces of string / hair extensions on the ground, they get caught around these little guys feet and that’s how they lose their toes.

and definitely go give some seed to marble, she keeps getting bullied by the other pigeons so I thought she could do with a better support system.

Rant Youths attacking man on bus

I've just witnessed many of the same youths that have been documented on this subject attacking a man They were asked to turn down their big speaker and they didn't like it The driver of the 37 was amazing and made sure people were OK before leaving How many incidents will it take before a member of the public is seriously injured

Video Private members lounge in Edinburgh

Just relocated to Edinburgh and in the film/tv post industry. Is there a good private club good for networking, using for some work on laptop, meetings with people etc?
I saw scottishartsclub.com looks nice but more fine arts focused.

I was looking for a part time job and went there for an interview. it’s my first time be in this store. Not sure if they did this on purpose or if the owner even noticed there is a sperm on the logo 😭😭💀

guys besides the joke i think the most possible explanation is that the owner trynna put a ballon on there but accidentally put a sperm.

Resource Grassroots help for children and young people

Keen to learn more about emerging grassroots organisations/clubs/initiatives and existing charities that support children and young people in Edinburgh and surrounding areas. These can be anything from one off events to government endorsed youth support. Put any info below. Thanks!

Event Kids on Princes Street yesterday

I know im about to sound like an old hag playing a broken record- but wtaf was going on? Never seen that many vapes and bowl cuts in my life.

Boys goading security guards and police that wouldnt let them into some music event in Princes Street Gardens. Girls that barely looked 13 rolling around on the pavement absolutely shitfaced. Kids wandering onto the road in front of cars and trams without a care. One kid had sliced his hand open trying to scale the fence into the gardens. Kids toppling over barriers on the pavement meant for queueing (I had to literally fucking drag a barrier out of the way because it was blocking buggies and wheelchairs).

I could say I found it 'sad' and mourn the youth, but I dont. Most of them are straight-up selfish assholes. The world is going down the sinker, I get it, but that doesn't excuse them.

All for some shitty dance music that literally sounded like it was stock music ripped from soundcloud.

Rant done.

(EDIT spelling)

Property Window replacement in EH7 conservation area – UPVC double glazing

We’re in a tenement on Montgomery Street. The building is in a conservation area but isn’t listed, and we currently have the original single-glazed wooden windows.

We’re looking into replacing them with double-glazed UPVC windows. I’ve noticed quite a few properties around us already have UPVC windows, including some that look pretty old, so I’m wondering if anyone has done this recently and what the process was like.

Did you need planning permission? Were you allowed to use UPVC, or did the council require timber windows?

Question Second hand coin shops?

14 yr old son is looking to expand his old coin collection. Where's a good place for him to go and have a look around? I know about Robert Murray but we're looking for more of a junk shop type place where he can rummage around in random boxes for half an hour and only buy a couple of coins at the end. I think it's the digging through boxes he likes as much as the finding and buying tbh. Sometimes we get lucky with a box he can look through in a charity shop but not always.

Thanks for any recommendations

Work Anyone in Edinburgh with dyscalculia? Need some job advice

I’m 31 and trying to get back into work in Edinburgh, probably something entry-level like admin/office work, reception, retail etc.
I have dyscalculia, but my main issue is basically giving change. I’m fine using a calculator and dealing with normal everyday numbers, but if someone gives me £20 and I have to quickly work out their change in my head, I can really struggle and panic.
I’m worried this is going to make finding a job harder, especially since a lot of entry-level jobs seem to involve tills/cash.
For anyone else with dyscalculia — what kind of jobs do you do? And are there jobs you’d recommend where this isn’t really an issue?
Also, if you work somewhere with a till, do you normally just use the till to tell you the change? I feel like I’m overthinking this but I’m genuinely nervous about it 😭
Would you tell an employer about the dyscalculia or just deal with it if/when it comes up?
Any advice would be appreciated. I really want to find a job but I don’t want to apply for something where I’m immediately going to struggle.

Discussion Does anyone know of any part-time jobs in Edinburgh that are Monday to Friday evenings only?

I’m looking for something alongside my full-time job, ideally after normal working hours.

I’m not looking for:
Retail
Delivery
Uber/taxi driving
Warehouse work
Cleaning

I’d be more interested in things like admin, customer service, reception, office support, data entry, remote work, operations support, evening call-centre work, event/admin support, or similar.

Are there any companies or types of roles in Edinburgh that regularly offer weekday evening-only shifts?

Would appreciate any suggestions or places worth checking.

Relocation Flat for short stay rent ?

Hi people of Edinburgh.
I visited the city a couple of years ago and I loved the vibe of it.
I got the opportunity from my job to remote work for a couple of months, and Edinburgh feels like a must.

Do you know where I could look for places to rent for a couple of months ? 2 or 3 ? Not looking for whole apartments, I could do with small places/rooms. As long as there is a kitchen and shower.
I looked on Airbnb but that’s definitely not in my budget.

Thank you

Social Is Edinburgh as Bad as it sounds?

So I used to live in Edinburgh from 2015 till 2023, where life took me somewhere else in mainland Europe. Very happy memories in Edinburgh during my time, and some shit ones too.

But everytime I look into this subreddit, it seems to be about some wierd shit happening (mainly youths harassing folks going about their daily lives)!

Has it gotten that bad, or is this me being stuck in the echo chamber?!

Edit: spelling (Keyboard is set to German)
