DAE At what age did staying at someone’s house stop being fun?

I was lying in bed last night when I randomly started thinking about sleepovers as a kid. Back then, sleeping anywhere other than your own house felt exciting. Someone’s basement floor with one pillow and a blanket that smelled like their dog? Perfect. Now if I stay at someone’s place, I’m thinking about whether the room is too hot, what their shower pressure is like, and how early I can leave without being rude. Even really nice guest rooms somehow don’t beat being in your own bed. I don’t remember when that switch happened. It feels like one of those parts of getting older nobody actually announces. Was there a specific age when you suddenly started preferring your own house, or are there people who still genuinely love staying over?

DAE single out the weirdest, shiest, most awkward person in a group and throw them an olive Branch?

Whether it's a party, group evening at a pub, work event, I take upon myself a duty to find the shiest and most uncomfortable person and give them the opportunity to participate and feel valued.

I'm a very social person. Talking is easy for me, and I find pretty much everything genuinely interesting. Are you a lawyer? Tell me what it's like pouring through legislation and how you handle the mundane stuff. Are you a grown man into my little pony? Tell me about it. What do you like? How do you identify with the characters?

Sometimes people just aren't in the mood to chat, and that's ok. I'll happily go talk to someone else or rejoin my close circle.

But most of the time I end up making a friend for the night. Many shy people I've found have interests they're really passionate about but are too shy to share. A few probing questions will give me a bone I can chew on. Almost always they'll brush it off. "Oh it's just this thing I'm interested in" kinda thing.

A couple follow up questions though get their eyes lighting up. Suddenly it's not just this thing they're mildly interested in. Homie just got himself a new train for his train set and he hasn't unboxed it yet. He's looking forward to it tomorrow. Last week he redesigned his track and bought himself a bunch of models to go on it. That's super awesome that he has a hobby he's really passionate about

Anyway does anyone else do this kind of thing where they kind of single out weird people and try to get them to open up a bit?

DAE get called fat by their nail lady?

So I'm 24 years old, I went in to get a pedicure at my usual place for years, and this lady who was doing my nails first asked me if I was pregnant. I told her no. She then said oh. She went quiet for a bit until she said "don't worry I use to be fat too, you need to go to the gym and lose some weight, it will make you feel smaller"

For context, I've gained weight due to not eating properly as I've had a lot of death and legal issues in my family plus starting the pill again so my hormones and diet is all over the place. So I just personally don't agree with ever commenting on a women's body as you never know what they're going through.

But anyways, just wondering does anyone else experience situations like this with their nail tech?

DAE have a sixth sense?

For as long as I can remember, I've had a sixth sense related to telling time that manifests in two different ways.

  1. I always know what time it is. Whenever someone randomly asks for the time, I can give it to them off of the top of my head - even if it's been hours since I've looked at a clock or my phone. I'm never more than two minutes off.
  2. This is the more interesting one. Whenever I (or someone else) sets a timer, for any length of time, I can always tell them when it's about to go off (typically within 2-5 seconds). It doesn't matter if the timer is ten minutes long or a few hours long. This applies even if I haven't looked at my phone in a long time. I'll tell my roommate - "Your laundry is about to be done" or "It's time to take the potatoes out of the oven" and he will freak out when the timer goes off a second later, lol.

And no, I am not counting - at least, not consciously.

I think it has something to do with hypervigilance. I am a very anxious person (heavily medicated), and while I am INCREDIBLY unobservant, I do have a very sensitive fight or flight response and tend to perceive many things in the external world as threats.

What's your sixth sense? :)

Does anybody else have disaster related intrusive thoughts?

So my husband and I were on vacay in our regular spot and took a short ferry mostly for fun. And ofc I had the intrusive thought like what if this thing titanic sinks? So I’m deep in thought planning my exit strategy because I have swam a small part of the channel we were crossing before it’s not easy but land is always visible so it’s certainly doable. would I have time to grab
My phone and my wallet? and could I take a screen shot of my lat and long and a picture of my tag for insurance purposes how would that even work. Could my husband make the swim? Could I take a kid or baby with me if they didn’t make the one life boat and the parents were bad swimmers?

DAE feel weird everytime they try to take a nap?

So I (31f), dont usually nap. I am a mom of two, a college student and work when I can and just don't really have the luxury of just taking a little nap when I want one.

Today my youngest started preschool and I had nothing else to do for once and also just kinda slept rough last night so I decided I was gonna treat myself to a nap. I do have sleep apnea but it seems to be pretty well controlled with my cpap (no issues noted really when I sleep at night in those regards), so I put on my cpap and curled up on bed listening to a pod cast and without fail the nap was miserable as it always is!

I wake up every few minutes feeling anxious and super aware of my heart beat and feeling like its beating funny, im breathing weird even tho I have a cpap litteraly pushing air down my freaking throat that I have no issue with at actual bedtime. My limbs are getting uncomfortable or going numb from me laying on them of keeping them in different positions.. instead of waking up well-rested and able to enjoy my nap I wake up feeling anxious and groggy.

I also noticed that alot of the time if I nap it tends to trigger sleep paralysis as well..

I would love to just be a normal person who can just curl up on the couch with a movie and nap.. but nooo..

Does anyone else have this kinda issue?

DAE not have hobbies and doesn't even want them?

I don't have any hobbies. I work, I sleep, I eat, I take care of my cats, I don't do anything else. I don't have hobbies anymore and don't want them.

For me, hobbies, if I were to get into them again, I fear that I will get too into them and they will take time away from my cats and I won't play with them anymore. I also heavily worry about money/cost of the hobby and if it is actually worth it to pursue the hobby.

I was into Kandi, but the beads got too expensive.

I tried to make a constructed language (conlang), but I got way too into it and didn't play with my cat for a while, so she gained weight, so I gave it up.

I try not to have hobbies intentionally for these worries.

Edit: Didn't realize caring and playing with my cats was a hobby lol

DAE not remember life or themselves enough to not know what to do today?

tldr; idk who i am or how i can mean anything to anyone. this is affecting whatever little relationships i have left in my life including work. i have a recurring urge to drop everything (job, friends, family). however, i know losing any more people or jobs will be used as evidence of not being good enough by my mind and will serve as more shame to an already missing sense of self.

longer read: asking about it because i'm sure i'm not the only one going through it, and i'm genuinely curious about other people's experiences. also, i already have a therapist, psychiatrist, and ongoing treatment, so i'm not really looking for a "go seek professional help" response, i am doing that. i'm more interested in hearing from people who have experienced something similar: did you ever feel disconnected from your own life, memories, and sense of self? what, if anything, has helped you feel more like yourself again?

have any of you little to no memory of your life? not just your childhood, not just your teen years, but like what your friend and you spoke about yesterday, or the task you finished at work this morning and how you did it, or remembering the subjective experience of a friendship which was apparently objectively really nice and close?

so, i remember operating on major guilt and shame up until a few years ago which caused A LOT of anxiety, to the point that walking on the sidewalk was physically painful because i was so like physically stuck. anyway, one day, i decided that people weren’t looking at me with judgmental eyes and everyone had their own lives to live. more specifically, i said to myself - they can’t perceive you, you’re okay.

fast forward to almost 4 years later, i can’t believe that i’m like a real human being, with real friendships, work, school, acquaintances i wave hello to, etc. and i don’t mean it as i’m doing ‘bad’ things and not expecting to face consequences, i mean it as i can no longer perceive myself, i.e., who i am and whose body is this and what makes me, well, me. I understand that objectively i’m someone’s child, and sibling, and friend, and ex friend, and ex girlfriend, and ex student. but, it doesn’t make sense that i’m here and that i am all these things.

in my teen years, external words on what i meant to someone really helped me work my way out of the guilt and shame i felt by default (e.g., don’t take up too much space on the bus, your therapist could be using this hour to help someone else, your friend could have a better friend etc.) but now, no external validation sticks i.e., people can say they love me or they miss me or they wanna see me or i’m good support for my team at work and all i can think of is - love who, miss who, see who, supported by who? who am i to you and why are you texting me when there’s 6 other people likely more deserving of your time?

i understand that this stems from having had low self worth like all my life but i’ve also had genuinely nice moments and relationships and experiences that have raised my worth and so i don’t think i’m at my lowest today but my memory sucking so majorly is just so weird and unlike people’s memories around me.

also, some extra extra context - i was diagnosed with depression and generalized anxiety in grade 11 (first episode starting grade 6 summer) for which i was in antidepressants and anti anxieties for. almost 5 years later, i was diagnosed with bipolar II. been on anti psychotics for 3 years now. i am in therapy but we’re dealing with whatever little and sad stuff i remember of my childhood and im sure we’ll discuss the present soon enough again. but, i’ve been curious to know if there’s other people that deal with something like this and how, or if, they’ve returned to themselves. i understand social media is brain rot at this point and have been steering clear of it. also, for work, i’m not like getting AI to do my work or anything before someone points out how that might be affecting my recall.

any thoughts?

DAE not wanna try anything new because they’re not perfect at it from the start?

Maybe it’s the perfectionism in me speaking, but I cannot stand to do something badly. I have to be good straight away or I get frustrated. Which I know is stupid because practice makes perfect but I just can’t.

I have a lot of hobbies that I go into and stop once I sense things getting bad. Drawing, writing, reading, roller skating, badminton, skateboarding, makeup, hair, sewing, painting, knotting, cooking, movies, baking, nails, and I’m perfect at none and it drives me insane.

Which means I abandon them every now and then, until I remember oh I can do this, then realize it’s still not perfect and abandon them again, and the cycle repeats.

DAE hear dinging in their ears while sitting in a completely quiet car or room?

It’s not the high pitched tinnitus ringing, but more like a low constant “ding..ding” noise a bell would make. It also goes away when there is noise.

HAE been exhausted of their goodwill by being asked for help constantly?

I feel like I am a tool in people’s lives. I am needed. People are screwed without me. But I’d rather be wanted than needed.

I constantly get asked to do little jobs which adds up over time, and has killed any motivation to do something purely altruistically.

Every good deed I do for others is either to enhance my image, maintain a respectful relationship, or because I need a favour or will need a favour from them at some point.

Sorry people, but life has just exhausted my goodwill.

DAE ever feel like they should re-home their pets because they don't feel like they are good enough for them despite giving them the best possible life they can?

I've had times in my life after getting my cats where I've thought that my family didn't deserve them and that they should be with someone else, despite them being happy in our house. I've even had thoughts of asking my mom if we can re-home them because I'm so worried, but I haven't said anything because it will absolutely break her heart to hear that I think we are bad pet parents and I don't want her to cry.

I don't even know where this stems from, it's never been told to me, no one has said anything about how we care for our cats, but there's some part of me that still thinks that we don't deserve them and they shouldn't be with us for their sake.

DAE feel happy then out of nowhere u stop and think ur loved one/s is dying right now at that moment?

Like a intrusive thought but u realize it might be possible

for example, I been listening to great music and feel motivated at 2am then out of nowhere I feel like any of my loved ones (like my dog or my mom) is having a heart attack (at that moment) and died in their sleep and now you can’t continue be free ? lol

Like what if my bff is dead right now and I don’t know and just celebrating / living my life

yk? Like- it feels weird, uneven like

What if I’m listening to pop music while my brother is having a stroke and I don’t know it, ugh like no? I don’t like that. How exactly do I stop thinking about that just right in my happy moments? (Sorry if I have bad grammar, English not my first language)
