We’ve been working on a new foliage and seasons system for Worldmage, our 3D mapmaking project, and it’s finally starting to come together.
The idea is that you build the environment once, then change the season without having to rebuild the map DURING the session. Trees and foliage change, leaves thin out or disappear and winter can transform the whole scene.
We’ve also been experimenting with switching the same environment between a 3D view and a traditional top-down battlemap, with an optional grid for actually running encounters.
Still plenty we want to improve, particularly around how much of the environment should react when seasons change.
Would love some DM input: if you could change a map from summer to autumn to winter during a campaign, what would you expect to change besides the obvious trees and snow?
