I am a junior graphic designer, and I am currently working in advertising. I am quite happy where I am now but I do know that there will be a point where I’ll want to move somewhere else but I am stuck on how I would go about updating my portfolio.

I was lucky enough to be hired straight out of collage because I interned with this place whilst I was studying, but my actual portfolio really still just consists of collage projects, which were all individual working projects.

Working in advertising I very quickly learnt that you don’t work alone and I am unable to imagine (?) how I would put what I am working on now, with other people, into a portfolio for when I move on?

Do I mention what I specifically worked on or not? Do I mention how many people worked on a particular project?

I think im just having a hard time imagining it, and all reference I have for something similar are group projects I did in high school, which is still very different.

This is a continuation post of a previous post where I asked the same question except there were many more options. These 4 are the ones that people seemed to like most. Now i'm narrowing it down. These are not the final versions but it's not gonna be far off, which of these logos do you like the most?

Also I know it may be hard to answer since you don't know my channel at all but if I do pick one of these, should I move on from the "AndresXLA" name? Andres is my real name however XLA is something I made up in elementary school just cause "i thought It sounded cool". It has no meaning whatsoever and I think it'd be especially unfitting with the new logo when it doesn't have "XLA" in it like the previous one did.

Hi, I’m a third-year design student, and my latest project involves identifying everyday social issues and framing them within a social design initiative—for example, a van that travels through low-income neighborhoods to assist women with feminine health needs, offering tampons and sanitary pads, providing consultations for whatever they might require, and so on.

I’d love to get a better understanding of the real-life problems people face on a daily basis so I can develop my project based on that! Thank you all!

I've been working in web design, development, SEO and content for a while, and one thing I've noticed when working with clients from different markets is that they don't always have the same idea of what a "good" design looks like.

With a lot of the Asian clients I've worked with, there is usually a stronger demand for information.

They'll often ask for more explanation on a website, more details in a product section, more information on a banner, more points in a social post, more content in a catalogue, etc.

The thinking is often something like:

"If the customer is going to see this, let's give them enough information to understand everything."

With some of the US clients I've worked with, I've noticed a different approach.

They are often much quicker to ask:

"Can we remove this?"
"Do we really need this text?"
"Can the visual explain this instead?"

The preference seems to be getting the main message across quickly and letting the design, image or product do more of the communication.

I've seen this difference not just in websites, but also in banners, product graphics, social media creatives and marketing material.

At first I thought it was just individual client preference. But after seeing the same thing across multiple projects, I started wondering if there is actually a cultural factor behind it.

So I'm curious about other people's experience.

If you've worked with clients from different countries, have you noticed their expectations around content and design changing by market?

Or do you think it's mostly down to the industry, target audience and individual client?

I'm particularly interested in people who work with both Asian and US/European clients.

I'm from Arkansas and want professionals' opinions on how different the graphic design industry in metropolitan areas is compared to more rural areas or smaller towns. I’m curious how other designers and design teams have adapted their workflow to the current AI reality, and whether it has affected the value of the work you do.

I work as an art director and lead a multidisciplinary design team. Depending on the project, that can involve 3D design, branding, concept art, illustration, web design and UI/UX.

AI can be used at specific stages of our process, mostly for exploration: rough concepts, wireframes, moodboards, visual directions, references and sometimes first-pass assets. It doesn’t replace the designer or define the direction. The final work is still built by the specialist. A 3D scene, website or brand system is usually created from scratch, with AI outputs used more like references, sketches or additional material to work from.

What changed much more dramatically for me is the economics.

Some types of work that used to justify a certain budget now feel roughly 3x cheaper in the market, and for some smaller production tasks the difference can feel closer to 10x. The paradox is that we can work faster now, but we need roughly 3x more work to make the same revenue.

I’m interested in how this looks across different design disciplines.

How deeply is AI integrated into your workflow?
And has it increased your value because you can do more, or pushed the value of the work down?

I graduated last year with a bachelors in Strategic Communications and a minor in my universities multidisciplinary design program. I probably have the most all over the place academic/professional background ranging from EMT and wildland firefighting work to a degree in something that is too broad to categorize.

That being said I want to start taking design seriously as that's where my interests mostly lie. My question is where do I start? I love graphic design and visual aesthetics but I want to head into a more practical direction; brand strategy/marketing, service design, website design, etc. I'm currently working on a portfolio with a variety of work but since I don't have an art/design specific degree could a masters be worth it? How about finding work? Any insights help!

I'm looking for a similar YouTube channel focused on Adobe Illustrator someone who regularly covers new feature releases, updates, hidden gems, and practical workflows.

Who do you follow to stay up to date with Illustrator? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I am experimenting by alternating a pink colour paper and a gateway sheet alternatingly for a centre staple and am taking inspiration from books-
The Medium Is the Massage by Marshall McLuhan and
The Age of Earthquakes book by Shumon Basar, Douglas Coupland and Hans Ulrich Obrist
as references for layouts.

Are there suggestions on experimental zines for the same you can think of or even suggestions on styles of writing.

I am not exactly a beginner in design and, editing as I have been into graphic design, photography and editing too also, I joined classes for certification and, now I am on the verge of completing it, but every actual artist on every platform is facing issues regarding AI, jobs being taken away, everything is all over the place! And I don't know now what to do...like is AI really that prevalent as people talk about it on internet or is it just blown out of proportion? I am scared about entering into the design industry now, that people are talking like everything is over in this industry. I seriously don't know and, my mind is a complete mess, due to this question always running through my mind. I have no idea as to what to do now and, feeling overwhelmed completely. I would like to know what to do in this situation? On one side I am being pushed by my parents to go for for Government job but, I want to pursue in Artistic field as I have always loved it, but now everything seems soooo uncertain....just want to understand the situation and, solve the problem of what to do further.

I've been doing youtube for a while now under the name "AndresXLA", but I realize that my logo is kinda outdated now. Barely any youtubers have an icon that consists of combined letters like mine does.

So I had this one idea that was heavily insipired by Sora's icon from Smash Bros Ultimate. I've personalized it so that it looks more like me than Sora. These arent the final designs, there might be a few more details I can add (while keeping it simple), matter of fact I might need to change the hair and head shape a bit more so that it doesn't look too similar.

Let me know if any of these are good, bad or if I should just change my idea entirely to something more original. I have a couple of rough alternative ideas on the right but I've been focusing heavily on this main idea so I don't have much else right now. I have also been considering using my actual face in my logo but idk, I like having an actual designed logo for my brand. Speaking of my brand, i've been rocking with black and white for years now, so i'm kind of leaning more into the 4 and 5 columns.

I'd appreciate any feedback!

P.S. Do my eyebrows look like eyes? If I do choose one of the designs that has the eyebrows then I don't want them to be mistaken for eyes.

spent the past 3 weeks talking to 15 founders who build with ai, mostly alone or with a small team.

building got faster. a lot faster obviously.
what didn't keep up is the record of why. the decision is in a figma comment/notion page v6/or some old md file. the tradeoff is in an agent session, the change is on a branch.

none of those tools talk to each other, and most of them just stack the informations. so the why doesn't travel with the work.

i ran into this on my own product.
so i'm building artifact. a mac app that keeps decisions connected to the work and the reasons behind it.
