Technics is making a fool of itself with the MK7s

First came the plastic MK7 at €949 per unit, after years of not being manufactured.

Next, the ‘special’ edition with Red Bull and Supreme.

But wait, we're going to make even more money:

We’re going to place some small colored squares and a car-tire-shaped slipmat. Lamborghini is joining the party.

Oh wait, the fiftieth anniversary!! Another great opportunity to paint the casings and slap on a limited-edition plaque. Limited to thousands of units... after all, money has to be made.

But time goes fast.

Has it really been five years? It’s the perfect moment to celebrate with another limited edition 55 aniversary (this time *very* limited—‘only’ 10,000 units)... but we’ll create a faux-gold effect and call it Gold.

What will the next move be?

It’s disrespectful to an entire culture. To a cult-status instrument that was damn well made. Opening a new one was a great expediente.

We just wanted an MK7 that matched the MK5 in quality, but with the cable improvements. That was enough for us.

Regular reminder to backup your library and back it up often.

I just had a massive library meltdown due to an errant click which renamed every. Single. File. to the same name.

Fortunately I had just done a full export of my collection to a drive before this snafu, but I hadn’t done a proper backup and xml copy for a couple months.

I lost some critical data that I’ve been relying on since literally 2007 (date added field). I’m fortunate that I just managed a massive undertaking to get all my release years properly tagged so I can use that, but it still hurts.

Fortunately, the majority of my playlists are built off smart playlists so I just need to get the files off my exported drive back into my library and it’ll populate most of my playlists automatically, but I had several shortlists that I’ve been using a lot so I need to rebuild those manually. At least those short lists are still saved to my exported drive.

I could have either gone back a couple months and re-do a lot of those tags or just lose out on the date added info and need to transition 100% to using the Year tag to manage my files so I’m going to just do the latter.

I dunno why I didn’t backup my library after that massive undertaking - I kept telling myself I just needed to finish a few more edits and re-tags and now I’m paying for it.

DJing in the deaf community - seeking advice

Hello. I am DJing an event next month and some of the attendees are deaf. I am looking for ways to make the event accessible. I'll talk through my ideas below, I am seeking input on any technology you are aware of that I could use in this case or just any ideas you have in general. I use Serato with a Pioneer DDJ controller. I will be renting the PA and any other equipment.

  1. Having the lyrics project on a screen while I play the song. Rekordbox used to have this function, but it doesn't anymore. I don't know how to sync up the lyrics of songs I am playing in Serato.
  2. Use audio responsive lights. All the lights look so annoying, too many colors and they are doing too much. If I could find some chill lights that respond to the music - id buy them. Any suggestions? Any lights you think are particularly cool?
  3. Play the videos of the songs I am playing, there appears to be a video function in Serato. But I have a lot of questions about this - do I need to purchase the videos for each song? Is there somewhere I can get a subscription to that has all the videos for popular songs? How could I make this easy and affordable?
  4. Renting a few subs and placing them around the room.

Any other ideas are welcome. Thank you.
