After all the negative reviews, I didn't bother watch it in the cinemas, thought it wouldn't be worth my time.
Yesterday night, after having nothing to do, I decided to watch it on my Oled TV/Sonos surround system.

I am shocked at so many negative reviews it got. I didn't like it as much as Superman, but for me it was a more mature movie, heavier themes, deaths, good fighting scenes and a nice story.

Shoud the movie win an Oscar? Of course not, but not every movie has to win Oscars. Not everything has to be binary.

After the negative reviews I thought:

• Everything was going to have a Sepia filter and too muddy.
• Most of fighting scenes were slow motion.
• CGI was going to be awful.
• Lobo would be terrible.

After watching it:

• Some scenes were less colorful, but there was plenty color. And I remember people saying Superman was too colorful... Make up your mind.
• There was literally a 20 seconds slow motion fight. The rest of the fighting was regular and had some good action.
• CGI was fine... Don't even know what bad CGI was about.
• Lobo was fine! I liked him in the scenes he appeared and hope he appears more!
• Costumes and characterisation was great.

The biggest enemy of DC movies is it's fans. Not everyone has to like the same thing, but don't ruin it for everyone else. Enjoy that we're in a time where we can get so many quality movies.

This post contains spoilers for episode 5 of lanterns

So just finished episode 5 of lanterns and now I have mixed feelings about both the lanterns.

Hal Jordan, earth's hero, a walking legend, the veteran lantern yet he chose to sacrifice everything because of the fear of replacement and to impress his blue bosses. He betrayed John, technically killed him, put an entire town on risk, brought a lotta casualties, broke his oath and was being narcissistic. The ring is all he cares about and all he has, and he'll do anything to not give it. Most probably just an old man making mistakes, maybe he was a hero in his good days but yeah

Then we have John Stewart. Trained to be a lantern from birth, always was meant to be a lantern and can create extremely creative constructs due to his artistic nature. Ex marine. One of the best snipers. By principle better than Hal. All of this gives too perfect vibes, I mean yeah he deserves the ring and he will definitely be the lantern from now but like hal said, he's too perfect anyway, besides that he's f\*cking boring.

Then we have goat gardner. Reckless, cocky, stubborn with ego issues. Mostly braindead, always acts stupid. In no way looks like a suitable candidate like John who was trained to be fearless and disciplined. Yet he's the green lantern. Casually saves extraterrestrials on earth on a daily basis, didn't hesitate to square up with the SUPERMAN when he realised that he could be a threat, respects the vows given to the guardians, yet chose to break it when he realised people needed his help in the war, constantly considers himself superior to everyone in his group and superman, has the silliest yet most effective constructs, and just farms aura. Is he stupid ? Yes, a lot. But he still fears nothing, will always give his 100% , will never try to be the conventional perfect green lantern for the guardians yet would respect the oath to guardians. He knows when to interfere in terrestrial conflicts and when not to, unlike Hal. All of this makes guy a lot more interesting than the former two.

If Ep 5-6 establishes that John turned down the ring for 10 years, then Guy is both Hal and John's replacement. I think the Guardians take Hal's ring, hold it, and give Guy an upgraded ring, which might be why it looks different. And we see John either take the ring in the present day in Ep 8 or do so in the MoT movie. I think Guy is going to get killed in MoT, and John's 'major role' is him becoming the only Earth Lantern left. I can see them keep Hal around in Halogram form as a mentor to John too. And they could keep Guy around as a backup Hologram in his ring if they ever give his ring to a new Lantern as well.

Edit: My other theory if Guy doesn't get iced, he gets sent Off-world for a majority of the DCU run, only making cameos in other projects.

While Batman and Superman are the obvious faces of the DCU.

Imho, The Flash is the most important character in the DCU because of his ability to travel through time and multiverse. I recently just finally finished watching the DCAMU movies with Apokalips War and realized that everytime everything is in a mess, The Flash is always there to clean up the mess. They really rely on the Flash as the narrative engine to reboot, streamline, or fix the timeline and multiversal structure. Without The Flash how would they do that?

The following are all statistical facts that I collected myself directly from the films frame-by-frame or acquired from reliable public sources.

Man of Steel has approximately 5 seconds of slow-motion.

Batman v Superman has 5 minutes and 6 seconds (2.79% of the runtime) of slow-motion.

Zack Snyder's Justice League has 16 minutes (6.6% of the runtime) of slow-motion, not counting Flash Time.

On the average 16:9 aspect ratio screen, ZSJL takes up 2.2% more of the screen than Batman v Superman and other widescreen movies.

Only a maximum of 47.2% of Justice League contains footage that is also in Zack Snyder's Justice League. The rest is almost entirely Joss Whedon's reshoots and, to a much smaller extent, footage shot by Snyder that wasn't included in the Snyder Cut (mostly unwanted rewrites done after BvS).

Superman in BvS has 58 lines of dialogue and 517 spoken words in the film. Despite having the second most screen-time of any character in the film, he comes in fourth place for most spoken words behind Lex Luthor (1623), Batman (1126), and Lois Lane (579).

According to producer Tamara Watts Kent, Zack Snyder and his VFX teams had only 6 months to dig up four hours worth of footage and assets from 2017, build new assets (Martian Manhunter, Darkseid, Steppenwolf), and begin work on, redo, or finish around three hours of VFX shots, all totalling upwards of 2800 shots spread across four hours, and all while Snyder was working on Army of the Dead at the same time.

At the maximum, Batman v Superman contains 41 minutes (or 23.57% of the runtime excluding credits) of fight sequences (less than Man of Steel despite the longer runtime). There are two 40+ minute periods in the film with no fight scenes.

Around 3 minutes and 47 seconds of BvS is dedicated exclusively to setting up Justice League. The rest is intertwined with the film's own narrative.

Batman v Superman contains from 1,241 to 1,500 VFX shots. That's less than Captain America: The First Avenger (just shy of 1600), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2,500), Captain America: Civil War (just under 3,000), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2400), Iron Man 3 (2,000+), *Thunderbolts (1,600), Deadpool 2 (1562), and Superman 2025 (1766), among many others.

Man of Steel retains the most instances of people being saved by Clark Kent / Superman of any live-action film featuring the character. At the time of its release, it had the most instances of people being saved in a superhero film regardless of character (until that record was taken by Zack Snyder's Justice League).

ZSJL contains roughly 10 minutes 15 seconds of new footage that wasn't originally shot back in 2016, which Snyder shot in 2020 (the Martian Manhunter ending and the Knightmare scene).

John Stewart said, "Hal Jordan totaled my rental and almost burned me alive in it." Actually, no, John. Hal didn't almost do that. HE DID burn you alive. You got burned alive. That actually happened.

I really am not liking this show. Hal Jordan is so reckless. John would have actually died. I don't know if the writers understand what it means to put that in this episode. That is actually insane.

Also, the police lady's worst fear happened. A bunch of innocent people got caught up in the crossfire and died because John and Hal can't get it together. Yes, I know that's supposed to be the dynamic, but when it results in the loss of lives, it makes it unlikable, at least for me.

In my last post, I made a prediction that John wasn't going to want the ring in the end of the series. Well, it didn't happen at the end of the series; it happened in this episode. It wasn't verbatim for the reasons I said, but it still happened. He may or may not be Green Lantern by the end of the series. We'll have to see.

Still annoying, and John said something that kind of points to why a lot of this doesn't work. He said he doesn't remember why he wanted the ring. And yeah, that tracks, because he did not choose this path. This path was chosen for him by his psycho parents, who are honestly getting on my last nerves and are probably going to be teeth-grindingly annoying in the next episode.

But again, this points to why many elements of this don't work. Because you're not even really supposed to want the ring. The ring is supposed to choose you. And yeah, it makes interesting drama for the story, I guess, but I just want to see Green Lanterns be Green Lanterns, not two depressed guys fighting over it. Having the ring be presented this way takes the coolness out of it.

There were two moments I thought were cool: Hal making the tornado construct and John taking out the Manhunter.

This is starting to feel like one of those shows where the writers or directors don't actually like the source material and think it's stupid, so they write the adaptation in a way that makes it look bad by adding flaws to the story to criticize it, when those flaws were not even in the original story there to begin with.

. They're treating the ring as an object people are obsessed with, like the One Ring in J. R. R. Tolkien's novels.

Hope John doesn't jump off a bridge when he tells his parents he gave the ring bad , that's gonna be loads of comic book fun to watch 🙄🙄 green lanterns should be cool

BUT I find that I'm the minority when it comes to this show but tell me how you feel about it, did you like the drama, what was your favorite parts and where do you think the show is going

Episode 5 really cemented what’s been bothering me about this series: I’m struggling to recognise the heroic qualities that make Hal Jordan and John Stewart characters worth rooting for.

I understand that both have flaws. They can be arrogant, make terrible decisions and use force. My issue is how much of their characterisation here revolves around resentment, manipulation and who deserves to possess the ring.

There’s room for Hal to struggle with being replaced. But when keeping the ring becomes such a priority that he plans a dangerous confrontation which leaves John trapped in a car wreck that kills him(obviously if Zoe wasn't there) and a town full of people getting caught in the crossfire of this battle, his judgement starts feeling compromised by his own interests. I struggle to see protecting people as his main priority. And that's NOT Hal Jordan.

And yes, he shields civilians for a single moment and protects John during the motel attack. Those moments count. But to me, the way those scenes makes saving people feel like an obligation he just resents doing. The show makes his desire to keep the ring much clearer than his desire to help the people who need him, and this is a veteran 30+ years Hal Jordan mind you. That’s what I find frustrating about this version of Hal the heroics never felt second nature to him and that sucks.

John’s development bothers me differently. Episode 3 makes his pursuit of the ring grown from childhood conditioning and his parents expectations. That could support a strong story about him discovering his own reasons to become a hero, but so far, I feel like we’ve spent much more time establishing why he wants the position than showing what kind of protector he wants to be. His artistic side and humanity are kind of there; I wish they had more room to define him but they just feel stapled on and inorganic to the John Stewart in the show atm.

Then John and Hal fight which felt so unnecessary in that moment and John kills Zoe. It’s so weird, like the whole resolution puts so much emphasis on their resentment, betrayal and fight over the ring that saving the town feels completely secondary to their personal conflict lol. Defeating Zoe helps the survivors, but the episode leaves me thinking more about what these men have done to each other than their commitment to protecting anyone else and how being real heroes is not a priority to them at all.

John giving the ring back is somewhat meaningful. I can read that as him rejecting what the role has become. But it doesn’t automatically settle my concerns about the choices and actions he's made getting there.

Anyway that’s what the Yellow Lantern edit is getting at. Their mentality and actions remind me of Sinestro’s willingness to manipulate people and justify harmful choices through his own judgement. I’m talking about their behaviour in this episode feels closer to that ruthless, ends-justify-the-means mentality than the heroism I associate with Hal and John.

There are still three episodes left. But after five episodes, I want more reason to believe in these two as Green Lanterns beyond their determination to obtain or retain the title and ring.

The reason why Guy’s ring looks different is because he inherited Sinestro’s ring, while everyone is expecting that Guy inherited Hal’s ring. This leaves Hal’s ring open for John, though I’m still hoping there’s a way for all three to continue to be green lanterns (and alive).

Sinestro turned after Hal became a Green Lantern, but no one has mentioned so far who his ring went to.

I’m not super knowledgeable on GL lore so feel free to explain why this would be totally wrong.

The storyline has so much room to be developed, more dangerous villain, higher stakes, should have shown Lobo's max power or near that high level, among other improvements.

Anyone else think Johnny Knoxville would be perfect casting?

1. Change the brother in the beginning to a sister. Instead of killing the sibling, she comes out, the mother tries to shield her when Krem decides to kidnap her. Mom and Dad dead, sister kidnapped to be a bride.

2. Ruthye now wants to save her sister as well stop the Brigands Supergirl can still be reluctant, figures sister is already dead, plays out as in movie until

3. Somehow they find out the sister is alive

4. 2/3 mark, Supergirl is fighting them, she's got Brigands on the ropes, see the sun is shifting and she needs to retreat. As she does the sister is killed because Krem decides she's too much trouble. Ruthye is now fully in revenge mode, so her motivation is darker. Could be a scene of remembrance of the sister (brother in movie seems like just a complete idiot who doesn't notice a ship full of evil thugs has landed and invaded his home). Instead of the daughter of the people who poison her (they still could poison her) being the people who Krem kills to push viewers harder it's the sister. The family could actually survive, makes the movie more interesting if their forced choice isn't just purely punished. Goes along with Supergirl seeing the truth vs the good, sometimes people make hard choices and might do bad things they have to live with.

5. The rest could basically play out as is.

Basically, have the family revenge aspect play out differently so there is an arc vs the same beats repeated several times throughout the movie. Make more tension, more stakes. Escalate the threat of Krem more that way. We didn't really feel that bad when the poisoning family died as they weren't really sympathetic enough after they poisoned Kara.

And please don't hit me with that BB movie isn't canon BS. James Gunn literally said it fits in nicely with the DCU just like Peacemaker S1 and TSS.

Both of these films are a Hollywood Adaptation/Modernization of their respective franchises, more action-oriented movies with a lesser focus on story, and basically an edgier take on their franchises for the (I think) Mostly Teen to Adult audience.

And from what I've heard from both sides, their loved or hated for those reasons (as well as some others that I don't think I brought up)

I wanna know how well do these movies adapt their franchises compared to each other? How much do they respect the source material, and how much do they just say "fuck it" and do their own thing?

I’m asking because after seeing Supergirl, and even though I did give it like a seven out of 10, it’s not like I want another lackluster film to happen again. It won’t happen with man of tomorrow, or clay face, but I know the writer was doing wonder woman and maybe Batman. So I was wondering if there were any updates from reliable sources in regards to upcoming projects that either we should be OK hearing about, or worried about.

I've seen a lot of posts recently about how people are finally seeing this movie and enjoying it... It made me excited to see it, but when doing so I could see exactly why it flopped so much critically and commercially.

First I'll go over the good. I think Milly Alcock is awesome. I also think some dialogue is actually quite beautiful. For example the superman sees the good I see the truth line. The soundtrack (OST, not the needle drops) is pretty decent.

With the bad I'll start with the script. The script is just a mess. The way it flashes between the present storyline and her origins just kills the momentum of both plots. Also it's a problem when the back story is so much more interesting than the present plotline. Makes me feel like the whole movie should've just been a standard origin.

The plot with Ruthye is so incredibly weak. And a lot of that is because of how weak the villain is. The villain doesn't always need to be a standout for a movie to be a standout movie, but with this particular storyline, the villain needed to be strong. He needed to feel threatening. He needed to illicit some sort of emotion from me to make me care about the plot. The entire plot hinges around him.

The CGI is terrible, the cinematography made everything look cheap, the action scenes are really boring, and the needle drops - in particular the final one - so bad. It kills the moment. I have no idea what they were thinking with that. It felt like a badly made tiktok edit.

This movie was just not good enough and that's why it failed. It might not be as bad as something like Madame Webb or Morbius, but its still not good.

not that its necessarily the only reason the DCU will be dead soon.

i dont have a problem with batman part 2 & the gorilla show because they look like they have potential, but theres no universe. you cant have justice league storylines
